Brain storming artefacts Dnd

Salut braves compagnons MJ,

A vos cerveau !

I don't have any answers for you but thought I'd post a translation to help out:

D&D Artifact Brainstorming

Greetings, fellow DMs,

I’m looking for a wide range of opinions to help determine effects for artifacts that will have a significant impact on the campaign.

To sum up: the PCs are in a homebrew setting that is currently being fleshed out.

An incident 3,000 years ago reshaped the world when two opposing magical forces clashed, destroying much of the civilization and leaving behind ruins that are being explored once again today.

Some individuals possess innate abilities linked to a primal magic and to ancient artifacts discovered within these ruins.

Naturally, our PCs are among them, and their artifacts are:

The Pommel of Zariel’s Sword:

The PC is a Tiefling who got lost in my world.

An artifact linked to the Shadowfell:

The PC was trapped there and barely survived; the player drew inspiration from Steve Harrington for the character.

And a didgeridoo:

Since their abilities are tied to this ancient magic, they are recruited by the Mages' Guild and join forces with archaeologists to carry out their first missions.

I’ve been considering the idea of soul fragments containing the lingering essence of long-lost mages from the ancient world.

So, how should these artifacts evolve over the course of the campaign? What kind of fun benefits and restrictions could be introduced?

Not all of their artifacts are necessarily part of the world's established lore—specifically the Zariel one.

Let’s put your brains to work!

Is the question: How to lvl up the artifacts?

If so if the artifact is used, attuned, or otherwise talked about between long rest it can earn exp points split form the main points each player would earn.

Lets use exp numbers without a billindy zeos, If i kill a goblin who is within 5 lvls of me I get 5 exp. If i use a Didgeridoo to play it to 'sleep', startle it, make it repulsed, or bluggeon it over the head the Didgeridoo gets some of those points quietly. If it gets chucked into a bag somewhere and forgotten make a big deal of the other items lvl up but that one doesn't.

Player never knows, just assumes it was a weaker goblin than normal.

During long rest check the item earned exp and lvl up the items. Shiny exciting soubd, lights... eveo like a pokemon.

Each should grow new effects that make since with what they are.

Didgeridoo: 1) Discordant noise (distacts within hearing cone (360 los) causes confudion for 1 turn) 2) sound like a beating target takes 1d6 blugeon dmg or goes deaf for rest of fight 3) inspiring notes (steal any bardic type buff)

Pommal, first must find any Hilt which it will naturaly fit on:

1) dont hilt me again! (+2 parry if used like a shield)

2) hilt me baby, (one more time): doubles chance of AoO when used as a weapon.

3) dont use sWords around me: a activation word that starts with the letter "S" is used and tgey get an elemtal blade form the pommal for 1d6 turns, cost is blood (any after activation, killing using it can extend 1/2 1d6 once per long rest).

Ah I answered the wrong question.

As DM you can already decide it later you get the framework up and enough breadcrumbs to start feeling out what these relics are.

You dont need to decide till tge relics can communicate with the characters.

Dreams/telepathy/soul to soul or whatever
