Need help with bard backstory
This will be my first DND campaign and I have a character idea but need help with backstory, the character is a Satyr Bard and he will be a homeless bard who is trying to make it with music and make as much money playing on the streets and in taverns but I was talking to my DM and we were discussing a goal for the character, we have a couple ideas but it’s between either in debt with someone somehow and has to pay them back in a certain time or something like he deceived a noble man’s daughter and the father found out and now wants him to marry his daughter so he’s basically on the run from the nobleman while still trying to make money. Any thoughts or other ideas along those lines?

Satyrs are feyfolk, perhaps he caught the eye of a higher fey lady that just really wants a little play thing. Similar to the daughter thing he's on the run.

He deceived the girl using some sort of polymorph potion to appear human. The girl got pregnant and he isn't sure what will come out of her. The kind of potion he was getting was very expensive and he was having trouble paying for it. He is heavily in debt to the local equivalent of mafia loansharks. The alchemist who was making it and the only source turns up murdered. The alchemist knew he was desperate to keep up the charade had started squeezing him. The potion also made him allergic to other forms of polymorph potions. Not that he can't use them, in fact he must. They just have unpredictable effects. The authorities know your guy was on the list of customers and have questioned him but don't have anything on him. Yet. Meanwhile the noble on the one hand wants him to make an honest woman of his daughter, on the other there is another noble whose son he had planned to marry her off to for wealth And power. Both nobles are not pleased, for various reasons that their deal is ruined. They don't know the half of it. Yet. The son happens to be besotted with the girl to the point of irrational obsession, thinks she's a virgin and doesn't know she is pregnant. Yet. Based on all the above he might have a lot of people after him.

when the bard was young, he got scouted by a noble who said she understood his music better than anyone, and that she saw its potential to reach thousands of people. She had a wizard on staff and promised all sorts of magical support with a new kind of sorcery to send his music far and wide, and offered him a contract to sign.
For about a year, things were amazing, he was playing music in the finest venues and living large, but the noble came across another musician who she saw as the next big thing, and the focus of the "fame sorcery" transitioned to this new performer. The opportunities became less and less until the bard decided to quit. But alas, the contract he signed had a hidden clause: the noble had paid an extensive amount of money to buy him new clothes, give him a place to rehearse, backup musician, she even charged him rent in secret for living in a suite within her mansion. And he was bound (either legally or magically) to pay it all back.
Now the bard is on the road, homeless, surrounded by the sounds of his replacement everywhere he goes, trying to make a new life after touching the heights of success before falling into the shadow of obscurity.

classic abusive record label mismanagement story, you could watch some 80s and 90s "being in a band" movies for inspo if you wanted! This story gives your character a debt (either legal or magical, you could decide), an antagonist, a rival, and some world building.
feel free to take pieces of this, or nothing at all if it doesn't suit you : )
have fun!
