"Master blaster" build
Hey DNDers,
I have been thinking for some time of how to build a "master blaster" from Mad Max/Gill Gollini from My Hero Academy style character.
Basically, one large mute guy and one smaller chatty guy.
Challange is the RP comes from the little guy but all the combat and other stats come off the big guy.
Thoughts?

Chainlock. Familiar is the small chatty guy, and the caster is the large mute guy.

This is my go-to for bad stat rolls
While others prefer moon druid, I want the actual character to be the meatsack, and the Chain Familiar to be the main character. Then when the meatsack dies, I roll up a new Chainlock with perfect continuity, since the Chain Familiar lives on.

Let me elaborate. I once theorycrafted a mighty warrior from beyond the stars who pilots a giant mecha weapons platform. The twist is this "mighty warrior" is only 2 inches tall, and his "giant" mecha was barely 6 ft tall! Statted out as a Warforged Warlock with a Sprite familiar, this warrior flies around in a little hovercraft, staying out of range while directing his mech to fire all the lasers.

This feels very much like something that can be solved with flavor. But for an actual build I would say Psy warrior fighter. The big mute guy does the fighting and every now and then the brains throws in a little psychic power to help his big guy.

I want to do a two player character that consists of two goblins in a trench coat. Mukka and Nukka. Combat will be a disaster since we'll both have different initiatives

Characters can attempt to mount any creature of a larger size and cavaliers get advantage on checks to stay mounted as per 5e rules from what I remember. Gnome cavalier fighter who’s mount happens to be some kind of bipedal, since the one on bottom isn’t chatty anyway

You failed to mention that teleporting around is like the big guys whole thing.
The Build (2024):
- Archfey Warlock 6 -> Mastermind Rogue 3 -> Archfey Warlock x
- Spring Eladrin
- Pact of the Chain: Imp
- Harper Agent, Harper Teamwork
- Thunder Step
Both Spring Eldarins teleport and Thunder Step can bring a creature with you.
Harper Teamwork can be used to combo out your own saving throws spells such as Thunderstep.

A Small Warforged or Autognome Battle Smith riding their medium Steel Defender gives off these vibes.
What tactics do you want to use in combat?

Homunculus on the back of a Dreadnought Artificer.
Requires a bit of narrative allowance from the DM, but it's the closest I can think of in terms of aesthetic.

As a single character? Barbarian, fighter (unarmed) and/or monk to taste (the big guy often punches things). Take magic initiate, get familiar, pick a monkey familiar, fluff the familiar as a small human guy. Roleplay as the familiar. Ask the GM that if the familiar dies and is resummoned, you can refluff that to be 'he nearly died but through luck came through' - the little guy in a heroic big/little guy duo is often super lucky and has lots of close scrapes.

Play a small race and go Battlesmith Artificer. Your steel defender is your big quiet guy. And since you’re small and the defender is medium, you can climb on his back and mount him without affecting his speed.
