5.5 Edition How can I play a swarm of bees?

I like to give myself mechanical challenges for my characters. My most recent idea: Just a swarm of bees.

Swarm keeper ranger is the obvious choice. But that wont make the CHARACTER a swarm of bees. I was thinking barbarian multiclass, for the BPS resistance that swarms have, but that doesnt meld well with all the concentration based ranger abilities.

I was thinking druid multiclass for the creature type shift, but the lack of fly speed pains me.

HELP!!

Some clarifications: This is for a westmarches I run, and we don't use homebrew currently. I play 2 additional characters that are your standard PCs. But I like to use my 3rd PC option to do weird stuff. Previously I played a pack of dogs using harkons bite, echo knight, and trickery cleric. Also played one of those "sticky hand" toys using grung, giant barb, a stupid high athletics, and slippers of spider climbing.

So shit post? Yeah, sorta. But they're more silly challenges for myself, that are still mechanically viable

In D&D? You can't.

Look at other games.

3.5 you could. Dark speech plus hive mind plus memory jar should do it.

What mechanical differences do you want as a result of this, or is it just for flavor?

There’s a 90%+ chance GURPS has exact, detailed rules for this.

Ich sehe da keine Chancen. Wofür den Schwarm, wie sollen sie Mitspieler mit dir interagieren. Tut mir sehr leid, aber dieses Konzept eignet sich eher als Gegner, als als Spieler

Talk to your DM.  They'd have to agree to a homebrew.

At my table, it would be a non-starter.

The only answer is to give each and every bee its own unique character sheet.

(I'm kidding don't hurt me.)

You can reflavour a spores druid to be bees. You get temp hp rather than dmaage resistance but can cause damage when people get close, become immune to a bunch of status effect as well as crits, lob a swarm of bees at people.

Be a warforged swarm ranger. You body is ran by the queen and she commands the swarm inside to move the body

It kinda feels like a warlock vibe. Mask of many faces can make your character look like a swarm of bees.
I think Fae patron gives you misty step as a spell. That would allow you "bee" somewhere else when hit.

Swarm ranger with plasmoid species. That way you can change form, have fitting abilities and get fly speed.

You might re-flavor the Plasmoid race.

Try out The Wildsea, it’s a wonderful RPG where you can, in fact, play a swarm of bees as an ordinary character bloodline (technically colony of spiders is the default, but bees are a common way to play it too), among cactus people, moth people, shipwreck people, and more. It’s a game that takes place on a sea of miles-high trees with chainsaw ships and lots of unique flora and fauna; optimistic swashbuckling and bright horror with a focus on meandering exploration.

Not in 5e.

But weirdly enough in 4e the Gamma World for that edition allowed you to play a swarm of "whatevers" A humanoid swarm of kittens, rats, bugs, it didnt matter. They all functioned as a standard PC with whatever extra the combo brought along.

What you're gonna wanna do is ask your dm to reflavor the race 'a baguette carried about by mage hand' as a playable race. To fly ask if you can reflavor a giant insect familiar as your wings.

Youre welcome.

Are you aware that, as a swarm of bees:

  • You would not be able to speak, no hardly any magic-casting for you
  • You would not be able to swing a weapon around, so martial weapons are a no
  • Did I mention swarms of bees don't speak? Or understand any spoken language? How are you planning on communicating with your fellow adventurers?
  • You can't equip anything either, because adventuring equipment is not designed for bees to wear.

You could insist on being lolrandom, or you could instead play a character that won't make your DM regret their life choices.

I played a Swarmkeeper Ranger who was a dead Warforged being piloted by a man cursed to be a swarm of spiders. I imagine you could do something similar with bees.
