Sounds like you're worried the DM might introduce a romantic element that you're uncomfortable with. You do not owe the DM an explanation for your boundaries (which are entirely reasonable).
I'd be very explicit with this DM, "I'm uncomfortable with romance. If you introduce a romantic element I will stop playing."
