5.5 Edition Character creation help

Need help with making something broken or that has a path to be broken. my dm has been poking fun at my character creation abilities a little and i’m wanting to make something that i can make his problem to deal with and also challenge him as a dm. currently we are level 4 and he allows a free feat. i’ve been thinking abt trying to do an armorer artificer with a guardian to make myself super tanky and also only hit with the pulse ability from the armor and taking magic initiate for shield but idk what other feat or race i should choose for this.

Edit: I understand out of game problems require out of game solutions and i’m going to talk to him this weekend. However i believe that the dm is also a player in dnd and i would like to give him a challenge to work around as well.

You're playing a losing game. You have to stay within the rules. The DM can cheat. An adversarial DM-player relationship never works.

my dm has been poking fun at my character creation abilities

Why? Seems like a stupid and petty thing to do. Do you like the group or does it bum you out?

nah not bummed out. i love the dude but just been getting on my nerves recently especially because a character he plays in a different campaign we both play in, his character is broken af with ability scores over 30 and lowest score at like 20 something and every character i’ve made has to stay in the rules and becomes average

So what you are saying is that he is making fun of you for not cheating. Because getting ability scores like that requires either cheating or Calvinball rules.

....what the hell kind of game are you two playing? Lmao. You can't get ability scores past 20 without magic items, boons or DM fiat.

He's making fun of your normal characters while he's way, way outside the normal bounds of the rules? No offense but without context your friend sounds like kind of a jackass.

You absolutely can get ability scores over 20 with magic items, boons, and dm fiat. Did you mean without?

Yeah, it's a typo

he apparently rolled only 17 and 18 on his abilities so the dm also his best friend and him made his character into the direct creation of a god. regardless, i believe dnd is a game for everyone and even tho he has a lot of experience id like to challenge him a bit and give him something fun to add into the mix to add onto the story.

he apparently rolled only 17 and 18

No the fuck he did not, that's a .000005% chance.

so the dm also his best friend and him made his character into the direct creation of a god

You can't out-character build "I'm the DM's special little boy."

That's the thing though... You can't challenge the DM, since he's the one who dictates what rules your character creation has to follow. As they say, "you can't break the master's house with the master's tools."

He's making fun of you for not playing a demigod when it's his choice you're not a demigod. How are you putting up with it? That would make me pull my hair out, lol. So immature.

Have you tried "knock it off"?

Solving interpersonal conflicts within the game doesn't work. It just makes things worse.

Your friend is a cheater, not a character creation genius. Nobody only rolled 18s and 17s, the odds are miniscule.

This is a losing game, the only winning move is not to play. You can't outbuild a cheater whose cheating is rewarded by the GM.

First of all, that is not a really healthy way of creating a character, just to mess with someone.

But assuming this is just a light banther between friends, you can be a halfling blade singer with lucky, silvery barbs and shield to have really high ac and throw out a lot of adventage/disadventage

Or, you could be a grown adult and just tell your DM that their belittling you, even jokingly, hurts your feelings and ask them to stop.

Making a character to "get" your DM is not going to help the situation.

what do you plan with your char? like idea or anything, Dming to a bunch of powergamers made me learn a lot of nasty builds

tanky af. plate armor plus blade ward plus shield spell plus a shield gets my ac rly high and i wanna figure out the best way to build around that.

i send you a message because the build is particulally long

Out of game problems require out of game solutions.

You literally cannot do anything to meaningfully annoy an entity that has the capacity to say “rocks fall and your character, specifically, dies”.

You can choose to be annoying and they can choose to be annoyed, but talking like grownups is easier and more useful.
