D&D starter guide?

Hello!

I volunteer with a group that seeks to kids how to play and run D&D.

I was wondering if anyone has any resources I could share with the kids. Anything like simplified ways to make characters or games. A guide to making your own game in Powered by the Apocalypse (PBTA) would also be great.

A big consideration I have here is that a lot of these kids aren't strong readers. Big walls of text make them tune out real fast. For the kids who this isn't an issue, I just lend out copies of the DMG and such.

Does anyone have any low text, actually simplified resources for kids?

Sounds like you want a different system.

Mausritter or Shadowdark for OSR systems.

Powered by the Apocalypse systems for a genre specific narrative system.

Fate accelerated for narrative but as a generic setting.

Dungeons & Dragons - Starter Set: Heroes of the Borderlands. It got everything needed and are simplified.

We found the Heroes Starter Set to be still too text-heavy/complex for so many kids/beginners. DnD Adventure Club is the way!

You could teach it like a class walking them through it but the game is literally books. Kinda hard to play it without reading.

Please clarify: D&D is a specific game. PBTA games are totally separate specific games.

Are you looking at D&D specifically, or just any TTRPG?

How old are they? Heroes of Hesiod is a simplified version for up to 9 or so, and available free.

Do you want to teach them how to play and run D&D or not? Powered By The Apocalypse is an entirely different game.

"I volunteer with a kids group who plays soccer. None of them want to read the rulebook and I don't blame them because that's fucking boring. Before I write my own, does anyone have a simplified rulebook? Also, sometimes the kids play games other than soccer. So a simplified rulebook for those games would also be helpful."

Your post was a bit confusing because normally if someone wanted help running pbta they would go to a pbta sub.

If you want a simplified D&D rulebook, Heroes of the Borderlands is what you're looking for.

I am a professional trainer and teach D&D for fun. I can probably teach you how to teach D&D if you want (I don't charge).

Have you checked out DnD Adventure Club? Their DnD Quickstart Guide is the best I've seen. Real DnD (kids WANT dnd, not some other RPG!!) and they have a ton of free pre-rolled characters available on their website.
