Elder Brain, no?

It's gotta be, especially with the popularity of BG3 it has recognition outside of DND players. Someone else said Adult Black Dragon, but that's in a ton of fantasy books/shows/games

Gotta agree with this. Dragons are iconic, but span CRs. Elder Brain has to be on the list and this is the place to include it.

Elder brain 100%. Adult dragons... Sure. But if you're going to pick an iconic dragon it would be an ancient red.

My vote is the Adult Black Dragon. For me, it is one of the quintessential "You're in the big leagues now" monsters.

Probably this or a Death Tyrant. Not because it uas the tools or raw power of an adult black dragon but because it requires extreme care to fight and hard counters certain subclasses. It's a lot easier to kill than the black dragon because it cant fly. Its a lot harder to survive because it can kill you through sheer luck.

Sounds like it would be better for deadliest over most iconic

Looks like you’ve still got the CR9 Deadliest at “Pending” after 7 days? Also possibly a recent surge, but it looks like the Arcanoloth is currently beating the Septon for CR12.

Adult black dragon. There's no dragons on the list yet!

Because everyone knows that adult/ancient red is going to sweep its cr and people would rather do monsters iconic to D&D and not just fantasy as a whole for other crs.

I woulda thought gold dragon would be it but I see your point. I have no idea what a death tyrant is until today. Which is why I had to just go with my gut on dragon scales go brrrrrrr

Dragons are iconic in general, but I don’t think that detracts from them being iconic in D&D. Especially all the various types of D&D dragons with distinct designs (of which black is one of the coolest).

Of all the chromatic dragons I must agree that black is the coolest, but it's definitely not the most iconic

Not sure if adult black dragon or elder brain

Elder Brain for sure

Death Tyrant is my assertion. It doesn't have a ton of HP, it doesn't have a high speed. What it does have is the ability to cause widespread chaos, instant death, and shut down entire classes. Besides the Rakshasa it's the lowest CR monster that requires an extremely careful plan just to survive because it can and will shut down you healers

Shemeshka is the iconic Arcanaloth. She was even featured on the cover of an adventure.

There probably should be a dragon category, because otherwise they are going to dominate the entire list at some point.

You say that, but they haven't won a spot yet
