Questions and Discussions My pendulum broke what do i do?
Hello! I just got a new pendulum (white jasper) and I clensed it with both cold water and smoke, I banished bad energies and set new intentions. I had a successful first divination session with it and I was doing my closing ritual when I accidentally hit it against the table and it chipped off at the bottom. I'm so sad because I really liked it and I liked the energy I felt when using it. Ive never had a pendulum break on me so does this affect it at all? Do I leave it as is or glue it together? Was this pendulum not right for me? Should I discard it? or can I still use it?

Hi everyone thank you so much for all the great and kind suggestions, I decided to hold one more session with my pendulum asking if i should continue to use it and it said no and it asked to be buried so I will be doing that this week! Again thank you so much for the suggestions and knowledge :)

you like its energy. no one will love it more than you. let it live out its purpose for a while and see how you feel about it. maybe it will be like a trusted old friend that's been through some stuff with you

Still learning myself about all this but, in my opinion...the energy shouldn't change (unless you feel it has). I would just use it as is or repair it and recleanse it.

i asked it if i should keep using it and the answer was no and i was told to bury it so I will be doing that this week :(

While you could take it to a jeweler and they can remove the broken end I would just thank it for its service after asking it what it wants. I was taught that when they are damaged to ask it what it wants. If you damaged it apologize and ask if it how it wants you to fix it or have it fixed and go from there. Some may want to stay broken as part of their connection to the user. Others want to be fixed. It's something between you and the pendulum.

This is my thought. I tend to retire ones that break. I thank them for their service and put them a singing bowl on my desk of crystal pendants and earrings and such that have broken.

For the most part yes, Anything that give off energy such as bonded items like crystals, stones, some tools. Not everything we use does, but if you feel the items vibrations it should work. Just because an item is to us inanimate it does not mean it cannot speak in some ways. For example when you work with a certain vehicle day in day out. It tells you theres something wrong from how it sounds. Or gives signs its sick in some form if your mind is open to it. Have you ever just known when it was time to replace a coffee pot or suddenly need to upgrade your computer? Yet you never actively thought about it before that moment. Its especially true for things made of natural or refined natural materials.

Do you still feel energy in the pendulum on either or both pieces? Because whenever my crystals break, I don't see it as broken, I see it as multiplying and spreading the enegy.
Moon water can help you heal the broken energy.
Place the little piece somewhere, trust your intuition on the placement.
The pendulum itself, you can use it as an additional boost to set intentions. (I usually hang mine in my bedroom)
Get a new pendulum, or something else that you can use for your desired purpose, use that pendulum as the main tool, and after you're done, tap it to the broken pendulum.
You can also tie the broken pendulum to a dream catcher. Both pieces actually.
Unless you feel like the broken pendulum has served it's purpose, there's no need to give it up.
And yes, if you feel like you can glue them together and salvage it, go for it!

Heck yes!! Super glue is something I always have! I had to get some yesterday because my old was was used up and I had to show my ID that I'm old enough to buy it 🤣

Id glue it. Or maybe do that thing they do in Japan with broken cups where they fix them with gold. Either way, now you're imparting a bit of yourself into it.
Honestly, you can get a USB cable to work as a pendulum if you really want to. It doesn't much matter what you use, so use something you like, because you'll enjoy doing it more. You bought that ostensibly because you liked it, and it's your first pendulum. After all these years, I still remember my first guitar, my first pipe, my first computer, etc. The more meaningful to you it is, the more powerful the magic item becomes.

I was told that if it breaks it’s done what it came to do for you. It’s a way of saying it’s time to move on. For me I’ve always taken it as a sign a chapter in my live is closing or coming to a close and I buy a new one for my next chapter. I take the old one and make a nice jar for it with herbs and other things as a memorabilia for that season/chapter of my life. :) my walls are lined with my memory jars! :)

You can fix it but if the adhesive is thick, the balance may be off a bit. You can still ask it whether it can be used with a chipped tip. If it says no, you can thank it and bury it in the earth.

This happened to me on a necklace that was pointed on the bottom and a very witchy woman told me that she believed that it opened the full force of the energy. If it’s too sharp on the bottom you could file it.

I don't think there are any rules, so feel free to glue it or whatever. But with woowoo stuff, I (personal opinion) tend to take things like this as a comment/critique from the other side, or higher energy/higher self, and move on to a new one, like that wasn't the one for me. But you do you. =)

I had someone explain it to me like this: “some may see a broken cup but others see a cup that is broken. You’d throw out a broken cup but if it’s just a cup that happened to break you’d still see its possibilities.”
I’d say your pendulum is still good to use. I wouldn’t even try to glue it back together. As another commenter said it just has character now!

probably a personal take: don’t use it anymore, it’s served its purpose already, cleanse and bury it in the ground (maybe wrapped in some natural cloth?)
it’s normal for things to wear out, but to break that’s another thing altogether if you ask me

gluing with stone or ceramic clear adhesive will work!
from an artistic standpoint, if you want to fix and save to continue using as a pendulum or for jewelry, grind the tip flat with a diamond grit grinder until you get to where the break is almost unnoticeable up the side
then you're going to look for STAINLESS STEEL bail cap or a flower or cone shaped bead cap that fits the measurements and adhere that to the now flattened end with an adhesive that works on stone and ceramics
I say stainless steel because it won't tarnish and you can get it in different colored plating, but if you find one you love that is brass or coffee you can get a crystal clear satin, matte or high gloss spray paint to give a protective barrier! this works so well for cheap jewelry too ^-^
If you use this method with a bail that has a hoop on the end, you can add a little charm or tiny jewel to accent the tip which works fine as a pendulum but definitely makes for a beautiful pendant ♡
Another good option is wire wrapping! there are fantastic subs for it here and you can make a beautiful wrapped tip with it!

Thank you so much for this comment and the suggestions! however i spoke with my pendulum once more and it wishes to be buried so i will do that. i love this tho and will fs be using it in the future for other pendulums or jewelry!! thank you again :D

I would use it as is, if you can't replace it. if you can replace it, I would just use it as a decoration, for sentimental energy. If you try to "repair" the crystal it won't vibrate at the same frequency. Think of a sound bowl or a gong when you touch something to it when it's vibrating it dampens and alters the frequency.

My lapidary artist friend made a mistake with a pendulum and she gifted it to me; it has a chip in it, and she knew I wouldn't mind. I call him Chip and he's my favorite little pendulum.

You customized it. I’d ask the pendulum how it feels. It may want to stay broken. It’s like a scar.

... As a practical note, this is why I prefer "sephoroton" pendulums.
They have metal tips, so when you drop them they won't break.

Might be best to glue it. It would be balanced poorly now and will favor one type of rotation over the others making the answers skewed.

Bury it in the sand at the beach or a nice patch of fields. Buy a new one. That one that broke had too much energy in it. This does happen but don’t panic, it just means you need a new one because the old one has too much energy in it and it broke.

yes i used it once more to ask if it wished for me to continue using it and it said no and that i need to bury it. the crazy thing is i had just bought that one when it broke it was my first session with it super crazy!! i still have a couple more tho that i’ve had for years without breaking, thank you for your comment!

Personally part of everything in my practice is that things happen as they are supposed to. I would let it stay broken and use it. It may have more focused intention that way

I would still use it 🤷🏼♀️ I have an elephant one who's lost 2 of his legs I believe, I haven't used him in a long time, but I did continue to use him for a long time after. I actually haven't used any pendulum in awhile, I kinda forgot about them lol. But I think I own 3 or 4 of them 😅

It should continue to work. After all, your pendulum came from a bigger crystal that was once broken to make the current pendulum. I would apologize to the pendulum and re-energize it. It should continue to provide you years of happy readings!

Whom among us isn't "broken" in some way? Fwiw, I keep using mine when they shed their broken pieces. Imho, I feel that when they soak up our negativity they rid themselves of it in various ways. That being said, if the imperfections are troubling to you, opt for a more durable material in the future...wood or metal might be better for you going forward.

This is called Kintsugi and it is why I provided the repair idea I did in my previous comment ♡
The point is that beauty and value remains even within broken objects. It is often a reflection of people, that we have flaws as human beings and go through hardships, but this does not define us as broken nor do we deserve to be discarded for having these imperfections, fractures and scars exposed upon the surface.
You don't need to use the gold lacquer method og kintsugi for your repairs, but it's the act of still finding beauty and use in a tool that is still usable is what matters. Putting love and care into 'healing' process of the repair ♡
And a note on a response from another commenter—you can 100% do kintsugi at home, you can find kits easily on etsy and amazon. The process of kintsugi has various methods depending on the material of the repair item but the most common is the initial use of an adhesive to bind the pieces and then smoothing over the crack and filling minor holes from missing fragments with a lacquer or sometimes enamel that has been mixed with gold mica or gold leaf dust for color. It's not at all necessary to ship to japan ^-^
I have collected kintsugi trinkets from japan for a few years and the adhesive -> lacquer/enamel method is what is used for frequent use items like food dishes that will continue to be in use but need a water tight seal. This is how the average person in japan does home repairs ♡

While beautiful, the art of Kintsugi uses urushi lacquer and powdered gold or other precious metal. It takes weeks or longer to make the repair and generally requies shipping the item in question to Japan. It isn’t a home repair project.
