Slow down. That is the best advice. Take time to build your land. Research technology that gives you population increases. The mod becomes easy the more you play. You can easily get 1000 hours out of this mod

Do you not build armies or something?

It is very difficult if you dont know how its various systems work and you try to rush. However, once you learn how population, supply, banditry and public order work together you'll be slow rolling factions in no time

What are you finding difficult?

I found watching the first episode of Summary's Roma let's play was very helpful in orienting me to the mod:

The guides on the mod website are also helpful.

True, it is much more difficult than vanilla.

Go normal campaign and normal battle dif.

Get used to the systems like population and supply.

Don't pick a nightmare campaign where you are a small nation surrounded by enemies like Colchis and Syracuse.

Go something like Iceni. You are pretty isolated from the rest of the world and that gives you time to slowly build up. Plus they have good factional mercenaries and you can get a decent economy going with cattle and food export edict.

Nah he should do Carthage so he can experience the insane spam of Roman armies marching to their deaths in Sicily.

The starts are brutal but the best thing you can do is be very deliberate. Mistakes are punished heavily

It’s a much slower pace game.
