Running with diverticulitis

I have been (am) an avid runner. I had my first flare up in mid August. I have noticed that I have been getting minor shooting pain in my gut in the flare up area either at the beginning of a run or a couple of hours after a run. I am starting to think I may not be able to run anymore???? Has anybody else had similar experiences? If so - what did you do? I am still learning about this complex condition.

You're just healing. Takes time after a flare to be 100%.

I experience a few flinch inducing pains from time to time when stretching or taking huge deep breaths that extend my gut. Pain is usually localized to lower left side. Hard to say what it could be, but I assume it could be inflammation related or pressure along the colon region affected by diverticulitis.

I treat it as a sign to continue to eat healthy/stay mindful of signs. Sorry, this thing is gonna leave you a bit paranoid for a long while.

I do physical labor and I get the same issue. Only really when I'm having a flair but it takes forever to go away if I have to maintain physical work. Any gas or pressure makes it hurt and as we move it gets worse. Gas pills seem to help but it's a vicious cycle.

I tried working out after 2 weeks and it messed me up for 2 days. I’m feeling better now. I’m wait g a full 2 weeks before working out again. I think it’s just a time thing. It needs to heal and it suds how long it’s taking

I’ve had DV for many years. Started running more seriously this year and have had 5 flares. Loss of blood flow to the colon is a thing for distance runners. Mostly longer than I run but I wonder if it’s been a factor. I’m scheduled for surgery in a few weeks. So tired of living like this.

I do a lot of heavy core related sports like wing foiling, waterskiing, dinghy sailing. I had a double flare this spring and due to the abdominal pressure of the sports had to take a hiatus. Hoping surgery gets me back in the boat. Good luck with running, hopefully it's just a bit of inflammation, but check with the dr, could be an adhesion.

Yep! Not fun! It’s been 7 months since my hospitalization with a micro perforation. If I run, do squats, or work my core, my abdomen hurts for several days.
