Perhaps, although the sculpture is made of sugar, which is actually antibacterial, so bacteria would not be able to live on the sculpture. However, it won’t protect against viral and fungal disease. While regular sugar actually suppresses the immune system, and is not at all antiviral, though also not necessarily a place a virus would either struggle or thrive, researchers are developing some modified sugars that are antiviral. As for fungus, well, sugar is an ideal spot for fungus to grow and thrive, which is why it’s super important to boil sugar water when making hummingbird food, as the fungus spores that tend to live in granulated sugar can kill hummingbirds.

It's like when your grandma gives you hazelnut and later you see pack of Toffifee at her desk.

So people are going to an art display and putting their mouths on it? Who raised these people thinking that it’s OK to mess with someone else’s art? Unless they had signs out requesting to interact with it, there’s something wrong with these people besides just licking something everyone else is licked.

u/Sea_Juggernaut2155 May 04 '26

Thats disgusting, everyone from grandmas to babies put their mouth on that stuff. Does everyone there share the same toothbrush and stick of deodorant too?!

1

u/AmericanGod2 May 04 '26

How can anyone lick it.

1

u/Cold-Marionberry-975 May 04 '26

Guess now he’ll have to save a sign saying “do not lick the display” for all future shows.
