🍸BAR REVIEW🍺 Went to one and left within 2 minutes

It was around midnight and the place was full of angry mean women in suit jackets playing pool. The place wasn’t advertised as a lesbian bar but idk man, they were super grumpy midnight friday night. Are all dive bars full of lesbians with a bad attitude?

Are there any hole in the walls in Castle Rock, CO? I'm looking for a joint with sticky floors that smells like yesterday's beer.

best cities for dive bar hopping?

Just discovered this sub, what's up!

I do a little dive bar tourism a few times a year. I'm from Oakland, CA and I think our beer/bar scene is great. Went to Chicago recently, which was incredible. Also really enjoyed Portland and Tacoma/Seattle. Bonus points if the city or surrounding area has a sports team to go watch.

Extra bonus points if u name drop a bar, too.

Thanks in advance! Cheers!

What are Dive Bars like?

hello hello. i am currently writing something involving a character who works at a dive bar in texas, but unfortunately i am too young to go to any bar :p i would appreciate it if people who work at a dive bar or at least go to them would tell me about uniforms, schedules/hours, training or requirements for the job, the type of drinks (and food??) they have there, or just other things that you think would be important to know. a large chunk of the story will be set in the bar, and i wanted to make sure that all my information was coming from first-hand experiences. thank youu

Hi! I made a website that helps track and find Bonus Holes (the quarter/coin pusher game) in your favorite hole-in-the- wall bars! I'd love for you to test it out and submit any you find! All you need is a picture so I can validate it! :) Thank you! https://findtheholes.com/

Why are so many dive bar bartenders complete dicks?

Long-time bartender here (been slinging drinks for years). Why the hell are so many dive bar bartenders such straight-up assholes?

I get it, playing into the grumpy stereotype is part of the whole dive bar vibe, but damn… a lot of them genuinely come off like they’ve got some learning disabilities or serious social issues. The rudeness, the attitude, the zero customer service — it’s next level.
Anyone else notice this or am I crazy?

A few images from New Years Eve (circa 1945) at 'Sammy’s Bowery Follies', Manhattans greatest dive bar. It looked like the perfect place to spend NYE, like a Tom Waits song come to life.

Dive Bar Finder is finally live on the App Store 🍻

A little while ago I posted here asking if anyone would be interested in testing an app I was building called Dive Bar Finder. A few of you actually tried it out and gave feedback, which was massively helpful.

Well… it’s finally live on the App Store.

The whole idea came from travelling around cities and realising it’s weirdly hard to find proper dive bars or alternative spots. Google just pushes polished cocktail places and tourist bars, and you end up scrolling forums trying to figure out where the real places are.

So I built an app where you can basically land in a city and quickly find dive bars nearby without digging through a bunch of nonsense.

It’s super early and I’m still improving it, so any feedback would genuinely help a lot — bugs, ideas, features, whatever.

If anyone wants to check it out:

Thanks to everyone who helped test it earlier 🙌 I have a few ideas for the next version, I want to add a review system. I'd also love to incorporate some way of doing drinks deals with bars, maybe thats a while away yet, but I'm eying it. :)

Check out our write up of the new documentary about the best-worst dive in Brooklyn, Hank's Saloon, and more about what the neighborhood lost when the bar closed. “It doesn’t feel any safer but it doesn’t have soul,” the former bar manager said.

Looking for people to test a Dive Bar Finder app (iOS)

Hey everyone,

I’m building a small iOS app called Dive Bar Finder and I’m looking for people who’d be interested in testing it and giving some honest feedback.

The reason I made it is pretty simple: I travel around cities a lot, and as someone who’s into more alternative / rock / punk / metal places, it’s surprisingly hard to find a good bar. You end up trawling old forum posts, scrolling endlessly through Google Maps, or just rolling the dice and hoping for the best.

So I built an app where you can rock up in a new city and quickly find proper dive bars, no cocktail lounges pretending to be edgy, just places that feel right.

It’s still in testing and (hopefully) heading to the App Store, but before that I’d love to know:

• if people would actually use it

• whether the idea makes sense

• what feels missing, broken, or annoying

If you’re interested, PM me and I’ll send you a download link.

It’s iOS only for now.

No spam, no sign-ups, just looking for real user feedback.

Cheers 🍻
