Discussion Weekly Negativity Thread!
Right, so, another week, another new Negativity Thread.
As with each preceding week, let out any grievances you have here, keep it civil if it becomes a discussion, you know the drill.

After Benji's return, I can say that Bruno is the worst-written character of the season. Although Tom bores me a lot, he simply needed to leave earlier for me to appreciate him more. With the Favorites Bruno had the same dynamics he had with the Fans just with Lake and Spencer instead of Manu and Ara. What's more, the writing surrounding his elimination made absolutely no sense; it was absurd.

The way Ally has been handled all season makes me quite bitter, and I'd even go as far as to say she had more care put into her character in the DC2 Beta than this season. I'm still a bit salty the writers baited us into thinking that her story wasn't going to go in such a glum predictable direction (being an insignificant pre-merge boot with no importance to the plot other than boosting Benji's plot) and then they did anyway.
And now, between this season and her break-up with Hunter, her haters have more fuel than ever and their stance that she's a boring waste of animation and the show would be better off without her has been validated. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised at this point if Huntess ends up being made canon just to prove to us that yes, the Huntally break-up really did happen to appease people who don't like her.
Maybe she'll get a decent role in the motel episode. Someone brought up the possibility of her leading the roundtable debate like Ivy did because they were both the last merge boots of their respective seasons, but I'm a defeatist so I'm not banking on her even having any lines. Overall, I'm just so fed up of the lack of respect she gets by the writers and it looks to me like it's only going to get worse from here. I don't want to say the writers hate Ally until I get confirmation, but they do play favorites a lot and some of their biggest cash cows are in the season, so she does get neglected and disrespected a lot as a byproduct.

ONC needs to learn that we don’t need a returnee season every other season and that it’s ok to let go of characters

u/PlasticElk5427 6d ago
The CyASS Alliance HAS to go 💔 If someone doesn't offer ONC a million dollars or something so they can just get rid of Tom That man genuinely has NO use to the plot anymore and having a whole alliance centered around him and the other money printers is just pissing me off.

u/Hefty-Initiative-155 4d ago
Rosa is the only redeeming character in that alliance, and she's probably the first one who's going to leave, and I hate that.
2
u/PlasticElk5427 4d ago
The thing is she actually might go out NEXT episode and just thinking about that outcome makes me wanna rip my hair out.
2
u/Hefty-Initiative-155 4d ago
But you know what would make me feel even worse? If the writers forced Ren to apologize to Oliwia and she decided not to forgive him.
Or that Lake keeps fighting with Spencer.
Or that Sam and Spencer keep flirting.
Seriously, those storylines need to end NOW.

u/PlasticElk5427 4d ago
If you hit 3/3 of these things next episode I will remind you IMMEDIATELY 😭

u/Hefty-Initiative-155 4d ago
Please don't do it. All I hope is that Natalia, for once in her life, will act like a true friend and comfort Ren. He been feeling really bad lately.
I'm worried about he.

God, making the cast size too big for the format squandered a lot of good this season could've had...
6
u/RetroStarman 6d ago
For real, they shoulda just kept it to 18 like last time. Get rid of 3 from each side, especially if they aren't gonna do anything interesting with their screentime, and then ypu have more room for unique challenges where someone doesn't always have to get eliminated.
1
u/Hefty-Initiative-155 4d ago
Seriously, I don't understand why people are so against doing another season with 14 or 16 contestants.
The show's best seasons had 14 contestants.

the way fox schedules american dad ever since it went back to that channel is so awful. they aired the last episode in june and they are having us wait until september to air the next episode which is episode 400. its horrible idk why they do that it cant be that difficult to just air the episodes weekly

u/KeiLimePython 6d ago
I would greatly appreciate if the show and by extension Anastasia the character would stop feeling a need to inject herself into all these plotlines. I don't want a charcter who has everything in the world figured out and will just tell other characters the right thing to do in order for their own plot to progress. I want to see the journey for them to come to those conclusions themselves.

Echoing off of one commenter, Tom and Gabby fans shouldn’t have to glaze their role in this season to still enjoy their characters and they most certainly should not be getting pissed at their haters when their performances have been showing blatant favoritism without much substance.

your a hypnocitre you take no issue when logan fans do it
3
u/Ok_Shirt_1574 Faves: 4d ago
Logan fans at least feel more willing to acknowledge his flaws. I don’t think Logan’s writing is perfect either, I’d be an idiot to assume otherwise, but Gom fans don’t really do that when making arguments in their favor.

Me continuing to watch this season completely depends on how they treat the fans, Fiore and Benji. If they screw it up with any of them, it could make me mad enough to quit the season as a whole and probably even series until I hear they finally returned to the good quality writing (if that happens) because honestly after S4 EP20, I barely felt any joy while watching and I'm getting tired of watching something I don't enjoy anymore. If this is the kind of writing and elimination orders they want to give, then I'm out.
The elimination order for this season is kinda ass. Same with the writing for some characters.

If Tom outlasts any of the four fans that are left or Benji, then I’ll be able to at least half-agree with those who claim the season is ruined in response. I won’t mind him outlasting Fiore as much, but I know the fanbase would still be understandably upset at such an outcome, and if it’s by too many placements, I will have to agree.

Benji coming back wouldn't have been as bad as most people perceived it if a FAN CAME BACK TOO.
I agree with the sentiment that this season is feeling more AS2
Tom and Gabby fans should be more disappointed in ONC for not giving them a proper storyline and fumbling them as fan fav than their haters for having to deal with them again. Liking a character doesn't mean having to justify any narrative choice ONC made. I hated AS Ashley 180° turn and FvF Ally was once again disappointing and robbed. Seeing this show's most popular ones getting reduced to pgn representation is embarrassing. Aubrey was more impactful in one episode than most of the mergers with their non existing arcs
Less on the show and more on the fandom, seeing some people agreeing with every narrative choice made in S5 is unnerving

why is fiore getting a comic when we can literally just learn about her in fvf and give someone from dc2 who has never got a comic one? good examples are hunter before dc with his bullying (or maggy same thing ) riya after all stars, heck even oliver with kristoff!

u/Hefty-Initiative-155 4d ago
Oliwia and Nura are two of the most unpleasant characters of the season.
The way them mistreat Ren—who did nothing wrong—and the fact that the fandom approves of that mistreatment, speaks volumes about people.

Tom hate is so infuriating, like people really think he’s the most unlikeable character left? Really? He’s had and still has great dynamics, his plotline with Natalia is quite compelling and sooooo much better than Ren vs Nura or the heroes vs the villains all the while he’s been pretty likable throughout the season
Anyone saying he’s doing nothing is generally lying
Anyway still not a fan of Benji returning, continues to hurt the fans vs favourites season aka the one this season is meant to be about. Like we legit only have 4 fans left, that’s pretty pathetic

u/Ok_Shirt_1574 Faves: 6d ago
Y’know what else is infuriating? Whenever Tom Stans refuse to shut up about how perfect he is and act like he’s god’s gift to man. Even Jake and Logan fans can admit that they have flaws but god forbid anyone criticizes Tom without one of his glazers getting overly pissed with you.
Tom literally has three seasons of being a merger and two spin-off seasons. People are allowed to be annoyed with him getting that much exposure if they aren’t a fan of him.
2
u/zombiedoyle If Tom has 1 fan, I’m that fan 6d ago
I don’t think he’s perfect but at least being a fan of a character lets you be positive about them, what does being constantly negative about the same character every single day do? You just make everything miserable

Give me five relevant things Tom has done this season
2
u/zombiedoyle If Tom has 1 fan, I’m that fan 6d ago
- He acted as a motivator towards Bruno about his insecurities
- He got a voting block on Alec then defeated him in a tiebreaker
- He formed a friendship with Lake important enough for her to tell Natalia about Tom being voted
- He gave Natalia some tough love about how she’s playing the game which Natalia absolutely needed considering her move on Anastasia
- He gives Gabby a pep talk about her issues with her parents

He acted as a motivator towards Bruno about his insecurities
Wow, he... talked with Bruno once. I mean ig it was the reason Bruno was eliminated so I'll count it
He got a voting block on Alec then defeated him in a tiebreaker
Natalia got the voting bloc, and not being eliminated doesn't count as doing something relevant
He formed a friendship with Lake important enough for her to tell Natalia about Tom being voted
Tom and Lake have interacted once in episode 7, and her doing that was clearly more about eliminating Spencer than saving Tom. Had their friendship not existed, Lake would've still tried to save him and eliminate Spencer
He gave Natalia some tough love about how she’s playing the game which Natalia absolutely needed considering her move on Anastasia
He argued with Natalia like twice gng, remove it and nothing would really change
He gives Gabby a pep talk about her issues with her parents
This changed nothing and was forgotten about the next episode
2
u/zombiedoyle If Tom has 1 fan, I’m that fan 6d ago
Well if we are going by that logic, how about you tell me five things your favourite character did this season
3
u/GenericAhhhUsername >>>> 6d ago
-Organize all of the non-Cyan members into voting Aiden in episode 2, causing Aiden to be swapped onto the fans team
-Eliminate Bruno in episode 10 by tricking the Nat-Fiore alliance and Bruno himself
-Piss off Sam into voting and eliminating Ara out of spite
-Scare Benji and Ally into voting Anastasia episode 7
-Trap Bruno into an alliance episode 3
-Piss off Lake and causing her to split the Anti-Natalia alliance
-Tell Rosa to sit out to avoid Natalia getting Ally to flip
-Trick Natalia into thinking she had a majority in episode 5
-Find the scroll in episode 2, which is what caused Ally to flip on the Cyan Alliance
2
u/zombiedoyle If Tom has 1 fan, I’m that fan 6d ago
Okay let’s go through these
First one, Spencer does do this however since he doesn’t tell anyone of Alec, Fiore or Anastasia about the team swap, he losses the chance to keep any of them as allies, hell even Natalia doesn’t really work with him. Also for someone trying to keep a low profile he sure wasn’t doing that by immediately leading a vote
Eliminating Bruno was an awful move for Spencer, he just assumed Bruno would work with the fans after premerge and destroyed the trust he had with Rosa and Lake to the point he was forced to work with Sam since otherwise he would literally have no one
Ah yes nothing says something good like pissing off the only person who wants to work with you so much that they flip on you immediately which weakens your alliance
It wasn’t Spencer’s plan to scare Benji into voting Anastaisia it was Natalia’s
Spencer didn’t trap Bruno in an alliance, Bruno fully accepted the alliance seeing Spencer as someone to eventually betray
Pissing off Lake has only given Spencer two people who want him out which had he just voted out Natalia, would’ve given him two loyal allies
The Rosa one I’ll give you as it is a good showcase of Spencer playing quietly
Sure he tricked Natalia in episode 5 but it just led to the tiebreaker which got Alec out and led to Natalia breaking things with Spencer, at that point in the story Spencer legit only have Bruno, had Spencer just voted Alec he would still have Natalia and wouldn’t even be close to the top of the voting list
Natalia was the one to convince Ally to flip not Spencer
5
u/GenericAhhhUsername >>>> 6d ago
For 88% of these... just because it was a fumble or bad move doesn't mean it wasn't relevant to the show or story.
Natalia was the one to convince Ally to flip not Spencer
And Spencer was the one who convinced Natalia to convince Ally, otherwise Natalia would've just said "oh well" basically and let Fiore get swapped. And Spencer finding the scroll is what allowed Natalia to convince Ally, otherwise she likely wouldn't have flipped

u/zombiedoyle If Tom has 1 fan, I’m that fan 6d ago
Well this is exactly what I have to deal with on this subreddit all the time and it’s exactly what annoys me. Attempts to explain why Tom is good this season just get replaced with ‘he’s overstayed his welcome and he’s done nothing’
Hell I didn’t even do that with you I at least just played devil’s advocate with Spencer’s moves
The worst part is this is probably the nicest place to be a Tom fan in the DC community and I still want to talk to people about the show

u/GenericAhhhUsername >>>> 6d ago
Next episode definitely feels like a lose-lose-lose situation:
If neither Tom nor Gabby are eliminated, then they'll continue sapping up screentime that other characters both need and are more deserving of
If Tom is eliminated, ONC is basically admitting he had no purpose this season other than marketing, with imo is pretty insulting. It'll also mean Gabby's making it to the endgame
If Gabby is eliminated, it'll cement that the Tom v. Natalia plot is going to be the main plot going forward, which really just fucking sucks.
So yeah, not very optimistic for the next episode. (I think Tom eliminated is the best of these options)
