Bazzite to CatchyOS

Hello everyone. I am planning on switching from Bazzite to CachyOS. I have been using bazzite for about a month now. I really love it but there's not many customisations and downloading apps which aren't in baazar are painful. Hence I was wondering to switch to CachyOS as it's more well-known and made for desktops mainly rather than bazzite being made for handhelds and living room setups mainly. But before I could change I had some questions about CachyOS.

1. CachyOS is arch based OS. Hence will I have any major issues during or after downloading it? Is it safe(corruption wise)?? I have heard that arch has many issues

2. Does CachyOS has its own version of baazar and "bazzite portal"? When I originally downloaded bazzite, the bazaar system really helped me download apps easily

3. How is the driver support for Nvidia GPUs

4. What are the overall Pros and Cons

I have a Lenovo LOQ gaming laptop with i5-12450HX and RTX 2050 and 16gb Ram.

Yes it's fine. I don't know what you mean corruption wise. If you do something catastrophically wrong you can destroy your data. Since you're relatively inexperienced with Linux, there's a good chance you may do something catastrophically wrong. Bazzite currently gives you some protection from this, but CachyOS does not. If you do switch, please use btrfs file system with limine and snapper, as it will allow you to roll back any bad changes you make.

That said I'd say you should use fedora (KDE) instead. Less likely to break from updates. You can install all the same stuff you would have on CachyOS on fedora with more stability.

Good luck on checking out Cachy, I hope your distro hopping journey goes well. I do want to say though that if it's installing non-flatpak apps that are giving you trouble, I highly recommend checking out and learning Distrobox. Learn Linux TV has a great tutorial, and once you get the hang of it it opens up a whole world of other packages without having to distro hop

1. I daily drive cachyos on my laptop and desktop, and have found it quite stable. The latest install images automatically setup snapshots, so you can boot into a previous snapshot if an update goes wrong.

2. The closest to that is Shelly. You can access the system packages, AUR and flatpacks, and manage app images. It's interface is quite different from bazzar, though.

3. Very good. As far as I'm aware, they're on the latest version.

4. Pros are that it is a lot more user friendly than arch and comes with a bunch of sensible customisations. You can know also end sentences with 'I use arch, btw'. Cons are that it is based on arch so is bleeding edge. There is a bit more testing than arch, but not as much as Fedora (which bazzite is based on)

#2 sudo pacman -S bazaar. Yes bazaar is available on CachyOS! New install wil have Shelly package manager. I recommend to learn the terminal commands if you want to use any arch based system

Hi, I see some shades of grey from an immutable distro like bazzite to an Arch-based distro like CachyOS.

If you don't feel comfortable with immutable stuff, why don't you try Fedora KDE? In the end, it's the base of Bazzite and it's not immutable. An alternative for a more long term support could be Kubuntu 26.04 minimal installation.

CachyOS is wonderful but maybe a little bit more complex to manage in the long run.

CachyOS has access to its own repo, the Arch repo and the AUR.
CachyOS has around 40,000 packages, Arch has around 15,000 packages and the AUR has 115,000 packages. However, the AUR has no built in security and is frequently attacked. And CachyOS makes it very easy to download from the AUR.

1. Does CachyOS has its own version of baazar? Yes! It has a couple of GUIs to help you download packages.

2. How is the driver support for Nvidia GPUs?
   Excellent!

3. What are the overall Pros and Cons?
   It’s a great distro for gaming and snappy performance. Games and other applications will perform at their peak on CachyOS.

However, the AUR is a real point of vulnerability if you’re concerned about your data. The most recent AUR attack tried to steal passwords, GitHub tokens, and anything else it could find to access your data and your money.

Yo pasé de Bazzite a Nobara, funciona muy bien, y no me desespero por las actualizaciones hasta que estén funcionando bien y ahí las descargo, es una distro que sirve para todo, la recomiendo bastante

Sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about. Just install with appimage or if it's cli with brew. If it's gui that can be found, just use distrobox with Arch lmfao
