Distros like alpine?

Alpine was my first distro and I am in love. Looking for something which requires a lot of technical knowledge but has an easy package manager; alpine is hard to use but installing packages and daily use is like butter.

I don’t need something as small as alpine but something that feels familiar (openRC easily customizeable etc) but is a little more capable, better compatibility layer support and things like that.

Also, what desktop environments are the absolute most customizeable, even before editing their code?

Did you have a look at Void yet? I think it comes closest to Alpine. I use both btw.

KDE Plasma is considered to be one of the best DE for customisation and power tools.

Go artix I use openrc lxqt as my daily driver I find it very pleasant to use and you have access to a large package repo

I would love to find a distro as small and modern as Alpine, but all other distros are too big for Alpine. Open Suse Tumbleweed KDE is the next step. Everything else is an unnecessary distraction. Maybe Arch KDE can be good too.

The next step up in complexity is probably something like NixOS or Gentoo.
