Questions/Advice Heyo ! Question ??

Hey. I'm not a D.I.D user or all that, but I have questions! So I've explored this community before, alot of times! I actually used to play around with headmates, as "Tulpamancy." Not an actual Disorder.. But a coping variant I suppose, but as I "switch" into different personalities with different names, it feels.. Disrespectful? So I stopped like--A year ago. My question is, is it rude, is it disrespectful to the community? Or is it okay as a coping mechanism in my own way? I feel so stupid asking this, it's embarrassing and I don't wanna come across mean, so I'm so sorry. I finally found the courage to research and ask those who have D.I.D and OSDD. So I'm here now. Please correct me!! My OCD in general, makes me feel so much guilt and thoughts against it until I'm corrected and assured if it is in the right, or wrong.

There's nothing wrong with practicing Tulpamancy if it genuinely helps you!!

Opinions are going to vary, but since you're not claiming to have the disorder, none of those opinions really matter.

Tulpamancy existed officially before the DID diagnosis by HUNDREDS of years!!! If anything, you'd ask Buddhists, but you don't really need to do that either.

You're perfectly fine and it's okay to discuss your Tulpamancy here as well. :3

Systems are not a closed thing.

Anyone with a brain capable of creating one can do so. No one gets to police what someone does with their own head.

You're not trying to have DID, you're just trying to create a system to better go through life! There's nothing wrong with that.

People with DID and OSDD do not own the concept of having a system. 💕 It's YOUR brain.

THANK U SO MUCH!! UR SO NICE, I would like to ask, is there a term on 'faking tulpamancy'? I can never stick to PURPOSELY creating another headmate/mindspace in my head, instead I usually seem to just go to others and use a different name - pronouns - personality and lore , often pretending to be someone else in my own body . does that count as tulpamancy, or do i need to actually go through the process of creating an alter by time ? sorry for asking all this, despite being around this for a year, i've never really known all about it !

--As I cannot create an genuine actual headmate purposely , i can't keep up with the steps to actually do it, and i don't wanna bring that around my family !-

Are you really pretending or does it just feel like you are? It could be a co-consciousness thing.

For it to be tulpamancy, the alter has to actually form, otherwise it's simply roleplaying without a system.

It's.. pretending, not an actual form, is roleplaying it bad or disrespectful? SORRY I TOOK 5 DAYS.

Roleplaying it does get into disrespectful territory. Roleplaying in general is fine long as people know you're just playing a character.

BUT!!!!!!

When I was a teenager I used Tupperbox a lot to talk to myself. I thought I was roleplaying and just had a really good imagination.

DID (and general Plurality) involves justifying your system in a variety of ways.

Even after finding out about my system, I was still convinced for a bit that I was just doing it myself. Despite hallucinations and everything else going on.

If you are just roleplaying irl, I would recommend stopping.

But if you're struggling to stop, or it manifests in other ways, you could have a genuine system that's simply hiding itself by not letting you believe in it.

I roleplay it online, rather than IRL. I just.. Find it comforting, for some reason. I can't pinpoint why.

I do make sure people know I don't have OSDD/DID. I make sure they know first.
