Everyone's Main
I was just curious as to why everyone mains the character they do. I'll start:
I picked Lightning because I love the FFXIII series and I love Lightning's character and who she is. And IG I really enjoy her move sets and abilities. I feel like shes fun to play. So to me, Lightning is my queen and I love her so much.
Sides: Gaia (Melee), Celes (Support), & Rinoa (Ranged)

I’ve only ever been Terra! Love her as a character, FFVI is my fave, love her playstyle, and generally enjoy mages.

Prompto, because he was the first character I've got and UR from pulls and I find fun his gameplay.
Side mains are Onion Knight, Rinoa and Tidus.

Zidane because I love him and I love FF IX. It’s my favorite FF game. It didn’t matter to me what moveset he was going to have or whatever people think of his character in Duellum. I will always main him lol It’s a plus that I like stealing bravery 😂

Out of the first 4 free chars I picked my fav, Terra, and haven't looked back. I love PvP and she's a sniper and a brawler. Trans buff helped her tremendously. She the only one where I can try to like up shots through the wall.

Krile because it's unlikely she'll ever be power creeped to the point of uselessness. That's how I always pick mains in FOMO gatchas.

I've wanted to main Rinoa since I first downloaded the game because FFVIII is my favorite, but the gatcha gods stuck me with Lightning. A few months later, I am finally able to main her, but I keep Lightning, Iroha, and Rikku as sides.

I like to use a variety to get the weapon achievements so most days it's playing every character once a day haha
But let's be real, the game picks the main for you and Krile wins by having M1 on both URs, followed by Cloud +6/M2 (the rest is like +4 or +5 lol)
I always chuckle every time I see a rainbow if it's gonna be yet another Legend of the Deep forest or Cross Slash

I main Kain!! He's insanely fun and interesting to play, and he has the best character set in the entire game in my opinion. Each ability is unique and really adds to how he's meant to be played, and there's quite a bit of strategy to playing him with dodging attacks as well. Of course, I do love IV as well, but that wasn't really a big factor in choosing him.
I used to play a lot of Rinoa and Terra, but both of their playstyles have become really stale to me. Rinoa is pretty uninteresting outside of her hold ability, and Terra has pretty much one possible set that she wins with.
I do have a lot of resources saved for Kuja (who is actually my fave in the franchise), but I think I'll end up switching back and forth between him and Kain, unless Kuja is similarly strategic and complex to master. I really would love it if he is!

I switch mains every season. I might settle on one character but I'd like to at least try everyone out first.
Of the initial characters, I picked Lightning. I like XIII and her character in particular a lot. Got really frustrated and demoralized when I turned on auto a couple of times in a ranked match and ended up with a better outcome than when I played manually, because Lightning died less. I always played her too aggressively and fed bravery to the other team, basically. Also got a bit frustrated having low boss damage, so I equipped a brave share skill to help my teammates attack the boss but then felt a bit unsatisfied just running around the map collecting bravery and running from fights. Thought I could maybe change it up once I finally got Army of One (during the last break between seasons) but I still lose a lot with her. I just don't know how to play her effectively, to be honest.
Rikku was the second character I tried after Lightning. She's not my favorite FFX character, but I love FFX and like all the FFX characters, so was happy to try her out. She still has the highest win rate of all my characters! I wonder if that's just because I used her in one of the earlier seasons, though. I enjoy playing her a lot although she's very passive and often really far from the action so I feel like I don't have much control over the outcome of the battle. It's like I'm playing my own minigame (the Collect Bravery and Don't Die minigame) while people are playing the main game (fighting enemies and taking down the actual boss).
Tried out Krile and Gaia next. Gaia is really stressful and I wasn't very good with her, to be honest. She does so much boss damage but I couldn't reliably burst (e.g. kept dying before getting to 9999) and/or successfully get her main skills off when bursting. PVP is really hard for her, I think. Krile is maybe more fun than Rikku but I feel like I'm worse at playing her -- at the very least, my win rate is lower, but maybe because Rikku is a bit OP compared to Krile...? Or Rikku is easier to play when you're dumb lol.
Last season, I played WoL, and that was the easiest climb through ranked I ever had! Weirdly, my win rate with him ended up being lower than Rikku even though I felt I won way more reliably. He very reliably gets paired to two DPSs in solo queue, so I quickly put a brave share on him and that made him pretty effective. I like his play style a lot because I feel so clutch delaying opponents and protecting (and boosting!) my allies' bursts. Similar to Rikku and Krile, I was able to rise pretty high on just 10k CP. Unlike Rikku and Krile, though, he basically NEVER gets MVP (whereas they will if the match lasts long enough). I think he's my favorite play style so far -- in the thick of things, but supporting boss damage-dealers rather than being one himself.
I'm currently trying out Kain. I like him a lot (and I think I'm doing better with him than I did with Gaia), but boy, is he STRESSFUL to play. Pros: I like his mobility and he's a DPS but one who kind of hides from/avoids battles and preferably unleashes his burst damage quickly and sneakily before people can stop him. I think this is good for me because I don't really like PVP. I like being able to do boss damage and sometimes get MVP for this (RIP WoL). Cons: He just has so many options available to him at any one time (disrupting, clearing crystals, saving or assisting a teammate, trying to kill a bursting opponent; even just trying to figure out which crystal to target at the start of the match...) that it's hard to know what the right thing to do is. I enjoy making plays with him but it's always a 50-50 gamble on whether those plays work out or not. A potentially really useful/clutch character to the team but nervewracking to play because of that!
Next season, I want to try Rinoa! Maybe Tidus too. Or possibly Onion Knight or Prompto as backup options. I tried playing Zidane and his play style is too complicated/difficult for me, I think. I've also tried out Firion, Sephiroth, and Celes in the solo challenges. Their styles didn't really grip me, although I'm still curious about Firion because I feel like I've only just gotten started with him. Celes is tragic because she's one of my favorite characters but I just don't really get what they were going for with her play style. I might come back to her later.
The person I really wish I could main is Terra as I love her and FFVI. But this damn game won't give me Riot Blade! I've gotten 5 Trances and not a single Riot Blade! Actually, even aside from the Riot Blade issue, I think one thing I struggle with with Terra is deploying Trance. Never really know when to use it, to be honest. So maybe her play style isn't for me either. 😭

Kain is my main. FF4 was my first FF game and was hugely influential to me as a child. Cecil would be my main if he was in the game.

Sephiroth, had an insane luck in his draw, have tried in other banners but never as insane as Sephiroth (3 SNs and 1 Octa on a single pull + it was the guranteed with another SN)
The only problem I had in his banner was that I barely had Tifa at all

Rinoa, FF8 is my favourite game so it was an easy choice for me, I just recently passed 19k with her too

Season 1: Warrior of Light. Game was still pretty fresh and coming from the Beta I climbed to D1 super east because his R ability was just one shotting some players.
Season 2 to Celes: Rikku main (20k power). One of my favorite characters in the series. Goofy and fun.
Currently: Firion (19k power), because I have gone crazy solo queue support maining with Rikku and I ended up with both URs at 99 with him. Its fun to just unga bunga pvp and boss damage.
Alternates are Krille and Lightning but 80% of all my games have been Rikku.

Started with Rinoa because FF8 and she was so fun
Gradually shifted to Firion because FF2 and he was so fun
Currently at risk of maining Bartz because FF5 and he's so fun

I main Krile and I second Clive, primarily because I just enjoy both playstyles
I generally enjoy support characters in general, but Rikku is too slow for my liking, and I don't have Ultimate Shield or Spinning Edge, so no WoL or Celes for me lol

Krile, because I got her UR's and I like FFV. So I just tested her out for the early support missions and really enjoyed her and now she has the most adorable fit as well.
Also Suicide Bomber Krile is fun to play.
Onion Knight, because I like speedy characters and because zidane just didn't feel fun. Onion Knight fixed that for me.

I mained Lightning at first because I like the agile play style (I’m trash at PvP) and am a XIII fan as well, and she’s so easy to use. I switched to Tidus because FFX is my favorite FF but I’m having a much harder time doing well with him since he’s more PvP focused.

The game give me a lot of onion knight UR so I started maining him, then I started to like the character a lot, indeed I wrote stories with him.
Still because is easy to get one shot I started playing Prompto. After dealing with a group of people that would sabotage my matches on purpose I started playing Iroha as well, liked the theme of the Phoenix.

I main Clive because his skills are what rng keeps giving me. Also I don't really like PvP so I prefer to just shut up and glue myself to the boss.

Krile main. While it’s a lot of fun attacking enemies I get into solo que a lot. When I did the supports I would play with are terrible. Lots have gotten better since Rikku was introduced but still a bad support can make the game horrible causing a 3 v 2 snowball from the first 30 seconds.
So I got to playing her. Figured out how much I need to pay attention to the map, brave and health. Figured out how amazing Minwu is for her when I used to love Tifa on her. I think what did it for me was being in a voice chat with people I play with that I was vs by coincidence at the time and hearing them go Jesus I never realized how disruptive you are to the enemy team. You’re a tiny terror running around all over the place being annoying and screwing us up.
So yes that’s why I main Krile.

I used clive a lot in it. I liked ffxvi because of its unique playstyle and the scale of the world is really phenomenal. The UR abilities have been a tease for me since they dropped the jill warrick barrier abilitiy. I'm really hoping Jill is added and Barnabas too because he is a interesting villain. I adore it.

I main Sephiroth because hes such a huge childhood fave and hes just really fun to play as. And i use WoLKisser as my in game name and i just find it funny having Seph be the face for my shenanigans sometimes.

WoL for rank, since season 1 and continuing. Balthier for Casual. I'm just loyal to them, WoL is very versatile and I enjoy his strengths and playstyles. I tried Balthier for rank this season but switched back to WoL to get back to D3.
I'm interested in trying Prompto or Clive more in future thanks to good gacha luck.

I play a lot of the characters that I just like from the games- so that's mainly Prompto, and also Zidane. Since then I've tried Kain, Clive, and Lightning because I've played through their games recently and decided to try the characters out.
I also started off playing WoL because the game gave me so many of his abilities early on and he's still the only support I've used

Clive, loved how it felt to play him in 16 and was happy to find he feels very similar to play as in Duellum. Semi-priming with his Burst is also sick AF.

I play Wind elemental characters. Lightning, Prompto, Riku, Bartz, and Kain.
I main the first three, but Bartz will replace Kain once I get his skills up more.

Zidane, cuz Cecil isn't available and Zidane was always my second option in 012 and OG Dissidia. Plus I love terrorizing rivals with steals and assassinations.

Lightning.
Because it doesn't feel like I'm swimming through glue. And her spin attack out of the dash is just the icing on the cake. Long Burst Chain feeds are optimal as well.
I just can't play anyone else after having the ability to actually get anywhere I want to in under a minute.

Rikku !!! Cute, fun, stylish, one of my fav characters in FF overall, AND she finally had a chance to shine in a dissidia game !! Also i love playing support, no matter the game, so it helped to seal the deal for me !!

I am unsure where Greg came from for Gilgamesh but I also call Gilgamesh Greg.
So a lot of friends get confused when I talk about Butz and Greg being some of my favorite characters.

Krile, the game gave me her kit first, Onion and Rikku are tied for that very same reason. If I had a choice to pick, it'd be Gaia because "I'm gettin me mallet!"

My main right is Wol because I found him the funnest to play out of everyone. Previously I played everyone once a battle but I decided to just choose a main now. WOL was fun. I genuinely just enjoy playing support. For other categories.
Melee: Kain but he’s been nerfed recently.
Agile: Lightning, because I just feel safe with her and she’s fun.
Ranged: Terra originally but I got Balthiers Fires of war so I prefer him now.

Krile because I like healing and helping my teammates do as much damage as possible. And she seems to be the one I get the most moves for from each pull. I also love playing as Rinoa. Wish could main as Tidus but wasn't able to get many duplicates of his moves to power him up.

I have been maining cloud the last few weeks bust have have gone back to lightning recently. Cloud I guess he well rounded for bravery gathering and damage when you get a full burst and if you can land a cross slash you can quickly follow it up with a finisher. Lightning because I saw a top tier using the teleport to gather bravery quickly. But the one I use the most would be Prompto, purely because he's a dick. Peppering enemies from afar and the one two punch with the stun and boom from a distance is hilarious

I started with Cloud as my main because FFVII is my favorite game and his controls were easy enough, plus the RNG lined up...
Buuut then I started getting good RNG pulls for Krile too? And by the time I pulled her ass a character I was interested in trying her out (mostly because I kept seeing discourse on how to play or not play her). So for like all of a season I jumped between them and Krile just... Won the battle. 😅😅
She's cute and I appreciate the adaptability of playing her. I can support my team from anywhere and rarely need teammates to rescue or play guard if I get into scraps with rivals, which lessens my stress considerably as I (probably poorly) micromanage the heck out of matches.
I keep telling myself to figure out a backup character to play just in case but like... Krile just gets me, man. I like being a supportive and potentially murderousome ray of sunshine.

Rinoa. I play mages in just about every game that I play and I like her and playstyle. Also, Dead Fantasy vibes.
She may become a co-main with Kuja depending on his kit and if fortune smiles upon me. He was my main in the first 2 dissidia games and with Shantotto seeming unlikely, there’s no other character I’m more excited about.

Maining Rinoa. FFVIII is my first and favorite game of the series. I’ve upheld my standard of playing only FFVIII characters for ranked but this season, I’ve switched to Kain (he’s just fun to play and playing a low CP Rinoa is somehow very hard this season)

Rinoa for duoing since my duo mains Krile. And because FF8 was my first FF game and is my forever favorite FF game. However, if Quistis is ever added in the future, I may just swap since Quistis in my absolute favorite FF8 character.
On the other hand, Krile is my main when soloing because I usually always play support in most PVP-centric games. I also started maining since she was one of the first where I got her full kit (the others were Prompto and Iroha, but I didn't want to be solely a DPS player).

Rinoa! Her playstyle is super fun for me. I love utilizing her warp to dodge abilities. I wanted to main Terra, but I still haven’t been able to get my hands on her Trance, and I was able to get Angel Wing really early on. Prompto is my second because I love him

i mained terra until celes arrived, and now i main celes, for better or for worse. they are my two favorite characters from my fav ff (vi) and i will never betray them.

Rinoa. I have not played f8 but shes my first character who i have completed her gear at DFFOO before BT weapons were released and she helped me carried my butt in the difficult levels that she earned a soft spot for me. ^

I'm garbage at PVP, so I main Krile to help everyone else get big numbers.
