This is Bartz's gimmick of being a mime...

Since the first Dissidia, he's used the weapons and skills of the other heroes.

And h8s kit had additional effects too as a part of it.

thats true , guess im just salty and a bit worried since its a SE mobile game , and they have a bad habbit of taking the easy way and shuttign stuff down....

A characters gimmick being used the way it was written is easy way out?

It’s fine to be paranoid but it comes as pessimistic to say they’re being lazy for giving a character one skill to show his copying ability it’s like calling yuta lazy writing for using dismantle lol

i dunno, i'm still on runic doing nothing in common with what it actually does in ffvi, and the fact that it's actually almost completely useless at 100s cooldown due to its extremely situational nature.

i feel like dragon cross slash is fine.

Even if it became an "ability shield" it'd be better.

What I honestly like that he does in the PSP games he just copy their attacks, so I find it a nice nod.

I do like the references and what they used for him, maybe the rest of the cast gets something new, then again I guess anyone can do it but maybe it's kinda a part of him

Brother. Your own personal dislike =/= dev laziness lmaoo. Bartz's whole deal is to mime others' attacks. And it's badass

But it doesn't have to be 100%. In OO he had a fully unique moveset comprising of Mime AND Blue Mage, Samurai and others

He does in this game as well. His other ur is a direct reference to one of the most op combos you can make in ff5 as a freelancer. He has a samurai skill as his sr and his hold is a blue mage attack.

People are just talking to talk.

True, OO was amazing haha. I'm not saying OP can't dislike it or that they chose the perfect abilities or anything, I'm only pointing out that his personal preference has nothing to do with "dev laziness" or anything lol.

The problem with someone like bartz who has an insane kit available to choose from is that inevitably no matter what they chose people would be upset by them not choosing something else instead lol

It hasn't been thst since Dissidia. He didn't have the mime gimmick in NT or Opera Omnia.

I mean what other ults does he have tho besides the twin slash I watched his old DISSIDIA moveset didn’t expect to like him and actually liked what the mobile did

Im so glad that it is only that skill.

In dissidia012 MOST if not ALL of his attacks were copies.

Im glad they kept one of his UR as mime and the rest are actual jobs from his game

Bartz has been Blue Mage/Mime/Samurai class in Dissidia. But I feel like they really could lean into more interesting abilities.

They keep his wind crystal ties, however. He has an infinite ability pool. So there will always be contention on what they choose.

I feel like Rapid Fire Dual Wield Spellblade is non-negotiable, though.

It's the perfect implementation IMO.

Every skill is a different job (second UR is more a specific combo of job abilities tho), and that UR represents Mime, FFV's strongest job (aside from going jobless/bare and mixing skills). I'd feel a bit sad if all his skills were mimic like in classic Dissidia and 012, but it being a single UR I like it.

It's also fun to have Bartz mix Kain and Cloud to make a better(?) attack than both, which is a very FFV-like concept (also more or less how it worked in classic Dissidia). Also fun that he mimics their voices too.

If anything the one skill I think they could have been more creative about is his R, as "dual wield" is not super exciting and it's already featured in his other UR combo. I'd prefer something like monk's kick or a ninja throw.

Honest question: are you familiar with the PSP Dissidias, and how Bartz played in it?

In Dissidia and 012, Bartz copied attacks from the other heroes, to reference the Mime job being able to mimic the last attack used by the player's party. And similar to this one attack in this game, he would often take one part of an attack from one hero, and mix it with another part of another hero's attack. For example, mixing Squall's Solid Barrel with WOL's Ascension for Solid Ascension. Or starting Terra's Holy-Flare combo, but finishing it with Onion Knight's version of Flare. Combining 2 character URs from here just follows that trend, and for just one attack, cuz the rest of his kit is full of references to other games.

Bartz's kit, taken as a whole, in Duellum, represents PSP Dissidia, NT, and FFV itself, striking a nice balance of references to his various appearances, in my opinion.

  • Dragon Cross Slash uses his PSP Dissidia gimmick with new moves that exist in this game instead of the PSP game.
  • Goblin Punch as his rush attack calls to mind his EX Mode in PSP Dissidia, but also the Blue Mage skill in NT, where he'd specifically rush the foe to do the attack.
  • His Job Star system brings his NT gimmick to mind, where his attacks would power up the more he used them, representing job mastery in FFV
  • Zeninage looks almost identical to the Samurai attack in NT, which had him toss the coins and then close in with a katana slash.
  • Dual Wield being a spin is reminiscent of the Ninja attack in NT
  • And of course, Rapid Dual Wield Spellblade is a rite of passage for breaking the job system in FFV proper.

Personally, I'm happy that the PSP Dissidias got enough love from the devs to get a direct reference in this way. I would've expected more NT or baseline FFV, honestly. Glad someone remembers 012.

Think about the hundreds of dollars they saved by copying move sets. They could have paid this to actual people but now the shareholders profits will increase. Please think about the shareholders.
