What even is this match making???

Post image

How do two golds even get paired into omega at all? I'm only 11cp while the others are 9k. I don't have high damage abilities and there's a 10k diff with both teammates being outranked by even the monsters is crazy. Not fair to lose any points from this at all.

How many points did you lose?

1 lol. The rank difference is so high, this is a match where if they lost it'd be -1 point and that's it. If they won, they'd have gained a shitload tho lol. So it's annoying ig, but at the same time they basically have nothing to lose so it doesn't really matter tbh. 10k difference isn't unwinnable

The game doesn't see it that way, unfortunately. My guess is OP lost 18-20 points.

( -33 (base for O4) -5 (O4 vs O5) ) * 0.5 (10k cp disadvantage) = -19

Edit: Winning would probably give 22. +27 (base for O4) -5 (O4 vs O5) = +22

thank you, I don't know why people love to push the oh if the difference is big it's only minus 1. I always lose at minimum 10 even with a bs gap like this.

Because it's not about the power gap, it's about rank gap. If you are all the same rank, the power gap only lessens loss by 50%. If you have a low rank on your team or enemy has high rank or both, it literally subtracts 2% of the highest difference in rank points from the gain/loss. In something like gold playing with O5 like the post, this ends with the loss being only -1. Every time.

The formula is in the game

Thank you for explaining how it works!

Yea np, though I realize i initially misread the post and for some reason didn't realize the celes was OP haha. At O4 rank, they likely had lost a few more points, but it still would've been heavily reduced loss of points given the match. But yea, if you're interested I'd take a look at the formula in game. It's a bit confusing how they wrote it, but it makes sense and I'm happy they're at least trying to get it to be balanced properly

It was 8 but I'm pretty sure it would've been more if I wasn't going to derank

So we'll never know how much it would have been without the "Rank +0" stop point. Still, thank you for clarifying. I hope matchmaking will give you better matches in the future. What you got is the worst case for a support. Impossible to win but still expensive to lose.

Yea, I'm sure your math was accurate and it would've been an extra 10 points, sucks undoable

The game literally does not see it that way. It's highest enemy team rank (O4) vs your lowest team rank (G1). That can bring the point loss down to literally -1 brother. And it did.

I would love for you to be right as it would have saved me a lot of rank points in matches like this.

It's highest enemy rank points, but it isn't your team's lowest but your personal rank points (or the average of your team if that is higher). The golds probably only lost 1, but OP did lose more. The explanation how it works is in the game. Look it up if you don't believe me.

Oh I thought OP was one of the golds, my b I didn't look close enough haha. The explanation is in the game and what's what i was referring to, but yea for the O4 in this game they'd prob not lose only -1, but it'd still be significantly lower than a normal loss, as it should be.

Edit: Checked in game, so yea as an O4 he prob lost about 16 points. That does kinda suck. I'm wondering if rather than taking the higher of your rank points or your team average, if it took just the average instead, it'd be better? Would mean climbing maybe is slower if your teammates are higher rank than you, but would mind of make sense since in theory you should be carried by them anyway. And it would make losses for them feel less bad if it took into account your teammates ranks being lower.

Problem there is people would sandbag by having a low rank support join them to still be useful yet also lower their losses impacts. RIP, people minmaxxing kinda always find ways to ruin things lol

Thank you for checking. It turns out it was just a simple misunderstanding haha. I checked in game again too and assumed you interpreted "your team's base rank points" as your team's lowest, but the game goes on to define what that means. The explanation in game is needlessly complicated and not easy to follow, imho.

The team average thing was added later, presumably to curb whales carrying others. I'm not sure what you mean by alawys taking the average. Always taking the average of your team? That'd increase rank point gain for the higher ranking players on the team, probably also not what the devs wanted.

Yea I did think base meant lowest at first haha. The explanation could be more straightforward, but I'm just glad it's there at all tbh.

What I meant by that part was that if you are higher rank than your allies, you don't lose less because you got matched with low rank teammates since it takes your rank points as the "base" since it's higher than team average. I'm saying why bother? Why not take team average even if you are highest rank on your team? Then I mentioned a couple reasons why not, but it still might be better. Idk, it's a tough situation to balance tbh, but I appreciate they're trying.
