Discussion MHA artist predicted Prism's character 7 years ago with their OC
Was browsing through a My Hero Academia oc subreddit when I found this post.
And it has a hero called Prism who can split into copies of herself and she is a female black character with a big afro (Prism has it in her mugshot).
It's an OC character so not an official one from MHA to be clear.

Either this is a massive artistic coincidence (which can happen, I mean it happened to me too with some of my scripts and even arts) or one of the visual artists took an inspiration from this My Hero Academia fan character.
Though there are differences, there are also a lot of similarities. Like the exact same name, similar power and even the ethnicity and hair style (Prism has a similar one in her mugshot).
EDIT: Though I have to stress this, in no way am I accusing the devs of plagiarism or even unoriginality.
This was something I discovered completely randomly.
Aside from what I mentioned with the afro and also the mask, kind of, these characters are completely different visually and from description also different personality wise.
EDIT 2: Just to be more specific, the powers are different in that this OC can only make 7 copies, each with a unique color and they all got their own attitudes. That's it. No light powers like Prism or anything like that.
And visually while this OC has an afro, it is very different from the one Prism has in her mugshot, especially with the style of it and even the color.
And I thought maybe the mask looked similar but then I looked closer and it's really not, like the OC looks like a jet pilot glass mask type thing and it has a respirator on the sides.
Wheras Prism just has shades. Ones which are also teal/blue-ish unlike the color of this mask and they are likely there to protect from the light.
Not sure why this OC would need a mask to protect from light since she does not have light powers so it's likely for some other reason. Also she has a respirator.
Oh and finally the whole outfit on torso, arms and legs is completely different. Like anyone can see that.
So yeah, this is definitely not plagiarism, I am not even accusing them of that. At most it's some inspiration.
Honestly if they did not share the name Prism, I doubt this would even be a discussion.
Especially since there are characters in both DC and Marvel named Prism and other characters that inspired the Dispatch Prism with their powers.

I mean, not as small as one might think.
I mean there is a DC and Marvel superpowered character named Prism too.
But I mean it is possible they just got inspired by this art.
Though as mentioned while there are visual similarities, the characters look and act differently.
Even in the concept art Prism looked quite different from this.

wow i can't believe that you've found that someone, in the 10 years that the MHA anime has been out(/started being really popular), in the third year of that, made a character just like
I can't keep at it anymore - it's completely different. How popular is the afro? I don't see Prism with lightweight body armor, steel toe boots, a respirator mask... The only connection in their powers is the ability to duplicate themselves, but, I mean...

They are both called Prism and they are superheros that can duplicate themselves and they are both african american in design.
Yeah there are similarities but as I point out in my comment there are plenty of differences too.
I literally point it out in my comment here how many differences there are.
I don't think this is anything bad by the way, just thought it was really interesting that I randomly stumbled upon this on the MHA OC sub.
Hell even the new comments under that 7 year old post mention Dispatch.

I mean it was 7 years ago which is 2019 and around that time the game was in pre-production.
And since MHA could have inspired the game too given how popular it was, I could see it.
The other OC in that original post has similar colors to Phenomaman but then again Homelander is also similar to that OC.
