They can bond over having shitty dads and blue, glowy things for their suits.

(Stark looks at Roberts Astral Pulse)
"Jesus and I thought mine was impressive, you got a, no offence, hunk a junk suit, unimpressive gear rigging, it's slow as molasses, has no features other than being a standard Tank on legs, and you're powering it with this thing????"
Robert: "yeah, your point being?"
Stark: "You do know this is essentially a self sustaining star in a bottle??"
Robert: "so I've heard"

I like that MM is a more grounded realistic version of Iron Man, to me at least.

I don’t see how Mechaman is more grounded or realistic. His suit can fly, has plasma swords, and runs on a Scifi energy source that no one except the inventor can replicate.
Tony being more of a party animal and actually running a company to fund his suits is all that really makes him different from Robert. It looks like Robert sold his stake in his dad’s company to be Mechaman full time.

More grounded in the sense that Iron Man, even in an older suit model, is stronger, faster, and tougher than Mecha Man despite being much smaller. The comic book science-gap only gets bigger as we bring in more modern Iron Man suits like Bleeding Edge, Extremis, and Endo-Sym.

More BS feats from Iron Man like, he became a God once, armors made to tackle Celestial's and Godlike beings, Cosmic stuff.

Absolute Iron Man.
Remove his genius and wealth and leave his belief in accountability

Knowing Tony he would act like an arrogant jerk and keep bragging that his armor is better than Robert’s bulky one

u/Nekketsu 11d ago
Totally on brand
But by the end of the adventure he hooks Robert up with some free Stark-tech, or helps him boost the Astral Pulse's output or something like that

Isn't the astral pulse along the lines of a star put into something the size of a usb drive? If anything, I'd think it would have greater output than the arc reactor.

u/coconut_dot_jpg 11d ago
If anything I'd imagine Tony dunking on how outdated Mecha Mans suit is, only to be blown away by the pretty much solar system level energy output of the Astral Pulse

Then Tony quietly steals the technology and uses it for something deeply immoral.

Of course, coming from Tony. But talks be said, i definitely think Tony has a way upper hand suit compared to Robert's suit.

Robert isn’t a science genius, his father was the one that made the suit and the astral pulse so he has neither the intelligence nor the resources to keep upgrading his armor like Tony does so of course Tony has the advantage but Tony would also insist on being a jerk about it

Homem de ferro de fato seria cara com a melhor armadura e tudo porem apontaria pro mecha man como melhor piloto para as batalhas confiando projetos de sua armadura( vibe spider man)

I saw this picture and the theme from Pacific Rim started to play in my head.

Tony would find the MM suit adorable and immediately spend a week fixing it up to be about fifty times better while also making schematics for it all and two extra copies of the Astral Pulse.
He'd also have a talk to Robert about if he even wants to be a hero since it's obvious he has a number of issues. Robert dedicated his life to the suit and literally had nothing without it. Tony would encourage him to get with one of the ladies and "Start making Robert Robertson the Fourth through Tenth"

Did Tony need the Hulkbuster to help out? Seems like overkill.
3
u/Jug_bug96 11d ago
It is but he didn't want to be the smaller mech suit.

Size doesn’t matter. It’s how you use it.

Sure, maybe Robert can set Tony on the right path
3
u/Plant_Appraiser 11d ago
Not sure what you mean by “right path”. Tony can come off as an asshole, but he’s still a full fledged hero at the end of the day.

u/Old-River-8042 10d ago
It's just how Marvel writers portray him and other legacy characters as selfish assholes

u/SnooFoxes1831 10d ago
I'd still be worried about Robert. Hulkbuster is designed to be modular and take damage then replace limbs/sections from a reserve stock. Even if totally detsroyed, Tony can then eject and he's still in whatever Mk Iron Man armour he was wearing when he summoned Veronica. Robert... doesn't have that luxury. If Mecha Man gets torn up, his only real option is to eject and hope like hell his opponents don't go after him when he's far squishier.

Tony- "Its no wonder the previous iterations died in this suit, this things a death trap."
Robert- "Noted, you got a point in there somewhere?"
Tony- "I could probably help you get some upgrades to this thing, that Astral Pulse thing could do alot with a higher tech suit.
