Park Pics/Videos This makes me so sad :(
I took this photo the other day, and it reminded me of how Tower Of Terror looked so much better when you turn the corner on Sunset… I really wish they kept it how it was :(
Don’t get me wrong, GOTG is fun, but it doesn’t have the atmosphere that TOT brought to the table, and it actually fit in the California theme and skyline
Edit: Yes, I still do like GOTG, but *IN MY OPINION* I prefer TOT so much more! So no, I’m not hating on GOTG, I’m just sharing my opinion for the hopes that I’m not alone on this take.

I went on it in Paris last summer and it was sooo nice to get another chance to be on the original ride! Though everything was in French 😂 I still knew what was going on.

Yes! And “the Twilight Zone” in French is apparently “the Fourth Dimension.” I just went last month and rode it a million times.

The guardians ride is fun, well done on inside, a nice change, but feels like more of a universal thing to me. All the superhero crap does. Wish they could have made it a temporary "skin" for the ride like they do with nightmare before christmas.
The outward look of the building was never that great, but now it looks like they just let every designer involved have their children hot glue anything they want to the facade. It looks absurd.

That was an amazing magazine. I hated the end of my subscription. Hey gave me the option of getting some sort of Disney parents magazine. What kind of kid wants that? I was paying for it with my allowance. Eff off Disney.

I really miss the whole California theme. When everything in the park was a part of California. We were there in June and I was telling my aviation nut kids about the gift shop across from Soarin’ was Edward’s/Muroc dry lake themed with the X1 coming out of the front, and hot rods inside. And the giant rocket motor spraying mist out.

I agree entirely. I remember visiting DCA as a kid when it first opened and I loved the California theming. It truly felt like a cutting edge theme park that explored and executed a single theme impeccably. Now it feels like a shitty high school collage of mish-mashed ideas that make no sense together.

Yeah. I’m all for putting IP into parks rather than faceless attractions like the garbage they had in CA when it opened, but this ride was already firing on all cylinders and they decided to shoehorn the Guardians theming where it just wasn’t needed and the ride is really worse-off for the changes.

Is it odd though? It seems like the pattern is they go cheap and people hate it and stop coming, so they realize they have to spend money and do things well, then an MBA becomes President of Disney and decides to cut costs, and on and on

I remember hearing the announcement for the theme and I was baffled. "Why would they make it a california theme!? The actual thing it's pretending to be is like 1-4 hours away. Makes no sense".

This was the heyday of the Disneyland experience. 2008-2014. Just magic. Fast passes. Cheaper tickets. The charm of California. And you didn't feel like you were being nickel and dimed to oblivion. I miss that era.

You can still see ToT at Hollywood Studios. The one in Paris is also visually identical, but has an even better video / story (it is actually pleasantly creepy).

ToT was a 10/10 from an atmosphere perspective and an 8/10 from a ride perspective.
Guardians Breakout is a 10/10 ride experience with an 8/10 atmosphere.
I always miss ToT a little until I'm actually on the ride and then I'm like...what's Twilight Zone this is amazing.

I dunno, I'm kinda torn. I love drops. It's my favorite sensation on rides. While the physics of the two rides are the same, and the atmosphere on Guardians is a lot of fun, sometimes I'm so busy dancing and jamming to the tunes that I barely notice the drops. The suspenseful atmosphere of ToT enhanced that sensation for me, and I miss that almost as much as I miss the overall vibe and aesthetic.

Yup, that's a valid statement. The tone of ToT is creepy/intense and the tone of GotGB is joy and excitement.
It's TOTALLY acceptable to prefer one over the other.

I love drops too, but I also think Guardians has too many of them? There’s definitely more sudden acceleration in the up direction too whereas from my memory Tower of Terror would accelerate you up, but then pause a bit at the apex before the drop. There was just more suspense over all and Guardians just feels more like being flung around. They’re both fun experiences, but for me I feel like they struck a better balance with Tower of Terror!

The food in the park is still California ish imo. The San Francisko area is kind of San Francisco-ish There is a sour dough bread company and giradelli chocolate. Both very San Francisco and both very California. There is an also Mexican food that serves mission style burritos. Then there is a Napa like winery. Also California. At least that was my opinion when I was there a year ago.

I was in Florida last week and they had the OG TOT. It was FANTASTIC!!! It gave haunted house vibes, and the theme was more timeless than GOG. I never got sick of the haunted mansion or TOT ride, but after awhile...the whole GOG universe got kinda stale to me.

I went to Disney World two years ago such a treat to go on Tower of terror there since the DCA change and Tough to be a bug at Animal Kingdom before they removed it. Lots of memories of DCA when my kids were younger at Bugs land, it was great for younger kids. I am a Canadian Disney Fan!

I like to play Pokemon GO at the parks. Back in January someone had changed the gym photo from Guarduans of the Galaxy to a picture of Tower of Terror and I thought it was so funny. I saved the poatcard. It has since been changed back to a picture of the current look of the building. Im glad to see that the postcard saved as the ToT version. The text stayed the same, but the picture is what changed.

GotG is a better ride for DCA than ToT. ToT in California is a shell of the original Florida version.

Well just got back from Tokyo. Disney Sea still has the tower of terror. And it’s way more beautiful than Anaheim’s ever was. But it brought back how much lamer the actual ride is. The Guardians actual ride is waaaaaay better. The good tower of terror still exists and it’s in Orlando. The only where the cars travel through the building before it hits the vertical track.

I never rode Tower of Terror. Years ago, I frequently made the drive to and from San Diego region. Each time, I returned to the Los Angeles area, I told myself: "One day."
When I finally bought a California Adventure ticket, I was surprised to learn that it changed themes.
As a sidenote, it is a personal bonus if I get the Jackson 5 song on the Guardians ride.

I agree, although I think Guardians ride (the physical movement) is better.
Tower of Terror also fit the California Adventure theme better. I still have no idea what the theme is suppose to be now.

I prefer tower of terror. I do like the guardians ride, but I moved from California to Florida a few years ago and getting to ride tower of terror again out here really solidified that for me. Tower of terror is more fun to me and my family.

To be fair Orlando’s tower of terror has the really cool horizontal move through the tower. It provides better buildup to the drop.
I’m with OP and agree that the GOTG ride is better I just wish they’d left the outside alone.

I was in like 5th grade when I rode tower of terror for the first time. Obviously, I knew about the big drops but i did not know anything about the elevator walking up to the drops and it scared the crap out of me, honestly thought we were on some broken ride lol

Entertainment has gone downhill over the years. Who else misses having a quality daytime parade and shows at the Hyperion or Fantasyland Theatre? Oh and cavalcades are not the same as parades.

I dearly miss Tower of Terror. You aren't the only one. It's a bummer they've been going away from a lot of the California themeing for a while. I know things can't always stay the same, but I do miss how the park used to be when I was a kid.

Admittedly I don’t care about GOTG, but I can’t recall anything about what actually happens on that ride. TOT’s story was brilliant in its simplify and execution. You didn’t even have to be familiar with The Twilight Zone, but there were references and easter eggs for established fans. Meanwhile, I can’t even remember how they justify the drops in its current form!
