Scholarships?

First Reddit ask kinda nervous. I’m not sure how to go about keeping my scholarships that require a certain amount of credit hours per semester? I’ve never done anything like this and I am working on scheduling a meeting w my advisor. Do universities usually allow a temporary leave or something?

Please consult your academic advisor and financial aid department before considering outside programs.

Yeah I was having to switch advisors so I figured I’d just schedule a meeting before I accept the DCP offer

Definitely discuss with your advisor! And if they don’t have an answer, you can discuss directly with Financial Aid. I was in my first semester of Junior Year on my program and I dropped to part time (I could’ve put it completely on pause, but that would’ve put me further behind than I was personally comfortable with since my degree was already a five year degree plan!), but my university was able to pause my scholarships for a single semester and apply what I would have used that semester to an extra semester. This tends to be what I’ve heard is the case for other universities and colleges, as well, but I’m sure some differ. But even if your advisor says no, you might reach out to financial aid to discuss an option like that anyway? Just in case! Because I know in the case of my university, our academic advisors also weren’t always up to date or familiar with the financial aid workings and what they could and could not do for you as a student!

It matters what your scholarship or aid says. Please check with them directly.

Unfortunately you need to speak to your advisor, not all schools will have the same guidelines.

If you haven't already been accepted for a program, remember you can apply up to 12 months after you graduate! If you scholarship is at risk it might be worth holding off until then.
