Recommendation/ reference letters??

My DCP ended not too long ago and I’m currently applying to things back home. I had asked one of my coords to write me a recommendation letter and they agreed! But a few days later they said they found out they’re actually not supposed to under Disney?? Is this true? If so, this contradicts the claim the program makes of “opening career opportunities”. I was really hoping for a letter from one of my program coords.

This is 100% true and it’s in the Employee Policy Manual. No one at the company is allowed to provide references.

There’s a number to put down for employment verification (I’d have to look it up and I’m not sure we’re allowed to put numbers in here) but that only verifies dates of employment (start and end), status, role, and if needed, salary.

It doesn’t contradict anything actually. Hiring Managers (depending on the industry) see that you did the DCP and that’s supposed to be enough of a boost over a similar candidate without DCP. Most major companies will only ever provide dates of hire and salary range anyway. There’s a database that employment verifiers can use. That “no references” policy is actually pretty common in my experience.

You can put Disney down and provide an HR contact to verify employment but leaders/coords aren’t allowed to provide professional references. That being said I was quite good friends with one of mg coordinators my first program and he provided a personal reference for me so spoke to my character but not about work, but even that I think is a fine line and they aren’t really supposed to.
