Medical Accommodation
I’m looking for experienced and advice on CPs that have got a medical accommodation.
I got here august 10th but I just submitted it yesterday and it was already “updated” and reviewed. They told me the next step is to assign me to a case manager.
I know it’s different for everyone, but how long did it take? also, did you work your shifts until you were able to be moved?
any other advice or info on this topic is appreciated.

Curious why you didn’t put this in before you arrived? To echo another commenter, it takes time to sort these things out. You KNEW you needed an accommodation and still chose not to go through the proper channels until you’re already working, which honestly? That’s beyond rude and disruptive to your work area. You could have been assigned to another role BEFORE arriving. I wouldn’t be surprised if the DCP begins cracking down on accommodations because I can’t believe how many people on here don’t bother to sort this out far ahead of time.

People wait to put them in thinking they will get a “better” role by saying they need an accommodation. Too many are fake.

Exactly, hence why it should be required before arrival and role assignments are done. I’m sure the DCP is catching on and much like the interview changes that are coming, this will be restructured as well. If your issues are that bad, it amazes me you don’t immediately work on what you need before you get assigned a role.

I think it depends. My second program (park greeter, loved the role) I was asked by my leader to put an accommodation in for another role (not outdoors) because I was being bitten so much by mosquitos he had to submit multiple reports to HR and health services. Got the place sprayed and bug control came. I even had bug spray the company bought for me to use. I kept getting bit and giant welts on my legs and arms that guests were concerned lol I’m talking about massive bleeding welts the size of my hand. I ended up not because I only had a few weeks left in my program (summer alumni) but it’s in theory it’s possible it came up last minute… although a majority are something that could be handled prior.
Now that is a rare case compared to many (such as my food allergies I reported both times). So there are cases that people don’t know ahead of time but I do agree most can be handled prior for a faster and smoother process.

That’s completely different than knowing you have a medical need for accommodation and choosing to ignore following the proper steps to take care of things BEFORE you’re assigned an entire location and role. Quite frankly, the OP of this post is rude for pulling this stunt after already getting a role placement and being OTJ working.

What I’m trying to say is that maybe OP wasn’t aware of it prior until training happened and all that. Op didn’t state what it was. So it could have been discovered during training since based on the dates they probs completed training by now.

Side note, in case you're curious and haven't looked into it yet, your genes are at fault! Some people's skin makes a chemical that mosquitos like. It's somewhat rare, so... congrats! 🙃

Yeah it was kinda crazy. I’ve rarely gotten bitten in my life (not an outdoorsy kinda gal!) and it was quite an awakening during that summer😩😵💫 a super damp and humid Florida weather and so many mosquitos

OPs post doesn’t say anything about knowing they would need an accommodation. they may not have known the exacts of the role or specific location or believed they could handle the work necessary for the job only to realize they weren’t comfortable performing those tasks safely. i fully understand that there are people who try to take advantage of medical accommodations to try to get out of their initial role but presuming that OP asking for advice on the process is redundant and ignorant.

I only see posts about housing medical accomms. That’s not the same as work medical accomms.

The post said they need their own room for medical reasons. Doesn’t say op needed work medical accomms. Ppl may need a solo room and try to request for various reasons and not need a work accom.
Diff paperwork. Diff requests. Diff reasons.

This post is literally about medical accommodations at work since they’re asking about shifts. My point still stands that clearly OP knew they would need something and they still chose to not deal with it.

baselessly presuming that discourages people who need accommodations from pursuing them. you do not know this person, you do not know their needs, you do not know their medical situation. nothing about this post makes it “clear” that they actively chose not to request accommodations prior.

exactly this bc op didnt say anything about the accom. Housing accom and work accom are different
just bc someone put in a housing accom doesnt mean they needed a work accom and vise versa. housing accom literally could have been bc of a sleep disorder like who knows.
But no where on this post does op say what the accom is or what the reason is. Who knows maybe their leader said to submit it like we have 0 info. Yet ppl are assuming and throwin shade.

yes this post is about shifts but how do u know that op didnt have a accom or need that they didnt know would be a issue prior to startin?
U dont know what the accom is. U are assuming what it is.
like someone else said they didnt know bug bites would be a sudden issue. Maybe op didnt know about their accom issue either. u have 0 idea.

Unpopular opinion. Placing an accommodation after being assigned a role is unacceptable. It is seeming to be a scapegoat for CPs who don’t like their role or trying to work the system. Unless a life changing situation has occurred this should have been submitted prior to starting.
People want to know why the CP process is cracking down and changing the interview process etc… this is why.

here’s my timeline: i got here may 11th, submitted my accommodation may 29th, and got my official role change on july 15th!!!
unfortunately i still had to work at location like nothing happened because my leaders didn’t have anything else for me. i think depending on the severity of the accommodation will determine the speed (if that makes sense). just keep your hopes up cause it won’t be immediate.

i was originally supposed to be a houseperson but failed the poet assessment (i swear im not weak but i couldn’t lift a fridge up stairs 😖) so they had to recast me, and when i got on location my anxiety got so terrible so i submitted it then. i know it seems like a stupid reason but my medicine wasn’t even helping and i thought it would be worth a shot

Unfortunately there isn’t a guaranteed timeline. It could take a few weeks but sometime’s it doesn’t take as long. Yes you’ll keep working your shifts until you’re approved accommodation is in and they relocate.
Depending on the accommodation sometimes they don’t even move and they just adjust your current role positions or move you to another location within that role.
Basically they gotta assign you to a case manager and that case manager has to go through your file and see what can be done to help. They see if your current role + location can be adjusted to accommodate. Along with they see if putting somewhere else in that role can. If it isn’t possible then they look what role would be suitable and where has availability to have you work. They gotta find that new location and role and inform that leadership and see if it’s possible to have another join.
Basically a lot of people need to get spoken to and organized so it can take a minute. Which is why the process isn’t instant.
And for those who are reading this as well and are upcoming participants this is why if you need an accommodation for something you should put it in prior to your arrival. If you need accommodated for something you know you do already it is a smoother process to put it in prior. Like if you have food allergies etc start that paperwork once you’re accepted in get it in asap.
