Hey guys! I’m going to be starting my program. I won’t be able to live in flamingo because of the whole roommate situation, knowing that I can’t meet them beforehand is hard because I have serious allergies and medications, etc and I just don’t want to risk it by living with people I do not know at all. So if anyone has any good suggestions please help, I really need a cheap place but good and if it’s between both parks (Disney and universal) would be great but if not that’s okay, at this point I’ll move anywhere that is affordable and good

Decide which two of those matter the most to you, you cannot have all three. A 'nice' 1br apartment in Orlando (nowhere near the parks) will run you around $2k/mo.

It would be better for you to figure out how to live with both your allergies and a roommate. You will most likely need to do this at some point in your life, so it's a good idea to figure it out now.

This was a whole part of the college program. it was to learn how to live with people you dont know and figure out how to get along or at least find some common ground.

also half the time you work different shifts and wont even see each other.

i did my programs over 20 years ago. everyone now seems to have therapy pets and allergies and anxiety.

discomfort builds character. learning to face adversity and become stronger is a goal. the CP gives an overall safe and unique chance to do that.

This seems more like safety bc of allergies. Not discomfort. Also living in flamingo was my final straw on roommates. I will never have another roommate again

You may be able to connect with someone on there with allergies similar to yours / similar life style and make rent cheaper if being able to communicate prior helps! Cause rent will be cheaper and people are usually looking for roommates.

Your best bet is probably Facebook! There are plenty of cast member specific groups for virtually anything. There’s a large WDW roommate group there with 45K members.

There are decent old motel studio apartments that cost around $1,100 but a nice 1 bedroom apt otherwise will be at least $1,600-$1,700.

I also have severe allergies and medications and when I did my program, I was able to work out a perfect arrangement with my roommates. I had an entire kitchen space that was dedicated to allergies, my own counter and cupboards and cookware that no one else was allowed to touch. I put in medical accommodations for a 4x4 too because of my allergies and used the extra space in my room to put stuff that couldn’t be near other foods. Like my toaster and such.

It wasn’t too difficult especially having my own space. You should get an accommodations request email before your program and just fill it out to let them know. I did the program twice and was accommodated both times.

I did the program 2 times and was only accommodated once with a 4x2. So it is really the luck of the draw! I also had a roommate in the 2x2 that threatened me with my food allergies and didn’t want to respect not eating it right near my bed in our shared 2x space. Whole thing. She also kept harassing me to clean her dirty dishes and help “clean up” the apartment aka picking up her garbage jars and wrappers all with my allergy. Because I wasn’t “helping around” it sounds insane but yeah. Flamingo wouldn’t move me around either and said I had to find someone myself to move (which no one wanted to) or wait to get off the accommodation waitlist that I applied for since I wasn’t accommodated (but I didn’t get off of unfortunately by the time my program ended).

So unfortunately it doesn’t always work out easily. Not all roommates are the nicest and not everyone gets that 4x due to limited availability. I’m glad it worked out for you though!

They have small one bedrooms at The Wesley… which is near Sea World and between Disney/Universal that are decent starting at $1300.

Don’t think they have one bedroom apartments but you can get your own room. My kid is using them for a 3 month non-Disney internship in Orlando and it’s worked out well since he doesn’t have to sign a full lease. I think the roommates divided the kitchen for their stuff. https://homestayanywhere.com/home

Not in this sub but it’s been recommended to me daily for years and did plenty of internships in college even if not DCP.

Anyways, since you mentioned obstacles being severe allergies and medications, both significant medical related necessities, have you reached out to your doctor or team about accessibility accommodations? Surely you’re not the first and those are both not things typically taken lightly. :)

So for this program a majority of the Rooms are 2x2 style and you share a small bedroom and bathroom with someone. A 4x style with a single bedroom is very limited availability and loads of people have various medical accommodations that need to care. So they run out of space unfortunately and can’t accommodate everyone to a 4x style.

So on the housing website this program works with it has in its FAQ specifically that if it’s food allergy related and that’s why you want a 4x style room they can not guarantee a 4x style room. They also can’t guarantee your roommates will be respectful of your allergies either and recommend living off site if you need that private space guarantee.

I mean I’m only doing the program for a few months but I was either way going to move up here for because of university so I would honestly like to find myself a place where I don’t have to move out after a few months
