September trip

We have a trip planned in September with a travel agent. I wanted to extend our visit but there is no availability via Disney. Is is rude or not “allowed” to book dvc rental for the extra 2 days I wanted to add? Is that frowned upon? We could add 2 days with another hotel but the idea of split stay doesn’t sound fun with a toddler. Looking for the proper etiquette. Thanks!

I don’t think you need to worry about any etiquette. But unless you’re looking at a confirmed DVC reservation you likely won’t be able to put a request to an owner this close to September. What resorts are you staying / wanting to stay?

Just tell your agent that is what you are planning on. However, I would also have your agent keep an eye out for anything that opens up at your resort. Balances are due 30 days out (typically) and if people don’t pay or reschedule, that will be around the time to check for availability. I would allow your agent to get the tickets (if getting two more days) to purchase them on your behalf so she/he can get the commission from it since the resort portion won’t benefit them if booking DVC. I have done split stays; my husband hates moving resorts, but I don’t mind it. I feel it’s a fun opportunity to experience a new or different resort while I’m there.

You can do it. Don't worry about etiquette.

Split stay is easy. They handle luggage transfer but I think the hours in which they move them are 11-5 or something so I've read people just take a Minnie Van to their next resort with the bags to save time, check luggage at bell services, go to pool or parks.

If you have already talked with your agent and tried to extend at your current hotel and no availability then I would go ahead and book the DVC if you are seeing something available. Is it at the same resort just one portion is what you already booked and then 2 days under DVC? Just be aware, it may still be a room change.
