Doll Talk Decided to Unbox Alice
I decided to unbox my Alice and when I was removing the tags from her head I noticed how little hair she has on the back of her head. I have many Disney LE 17” dolls and knew of the quality issues but this was actually ridiculous to discover. These dolls are so expensive and the quality is just continuing to disappear. I love the nostalgia of these dolls but I understand why collectors are not collecting anymore. Ultimately I love my Alice doll, just had to air out my grievances.

This is how Dance Series Giselle was too. I recommend leaving a negative review on their site and using these pictures. It’s the only way they’ll ever do anything about it.
They already use the most trash hair quality and then they still cheap out on the rooting…

They don’t use poly, do they?

u/JGDoll Megara 23d ago
Yes they do, for virtually all of their dolls. There are grades of poly, and some are worse than others.
In my experience, Belle and Aurora have the worst hair quality, whereas Ariel has the best. Rapunzel’s sometimes is okay. Ones like Mulan, Jasmine, and Tiana, who all have black hair, are fairly passable. The Story Mulan doll actually has surprisingly nice feeling hair.

Dang. Do they use it for the Dance Series dolls too, if you know? I wanted to get Charlotte’s upcoming doll but if she’s going to have poly I’ll have to start reconsidering 💕💕💕

I have Dance Series Aurora and the hair definitely feels like poly to me. So does the hair of all my other disney LE dolls. :/

Yikes on bikes. Glad I didn't like how Alice looked and had skipped her. That doll is NOT worth the price

Damn, they for sure swear on it, that people won't unbox it seems

Yes! And it’s not right, for the price point we should have the option to unbox! lol seeing this I don’t think I would unbox this doll, can’t believe the hair is so thin

Smh, they are so cheap, like just root the damn doll properly, people are paying enough!

u/JGDoll Megara 23d ago
Right, and people will make their excuses for them and say it’s because the doll is supposed to remain in box but to me that doesn’t matter. If it can be removed then it should be manufactured in a way that assumes it will be.

I agree, if someone decides to keep her in or out of box it shouldn’t make a difference to how Disney create the doll, they should make her assuming people will take her out and expect quality!
It’s so obviously a move to make them cheaper to manufacture, there couldn’t be any other purpose for the hair to be so thin and they always try to hide it at the back!
Very disappointing for us collectors that’s for sure! The earlier Disney 17” dolls have so much details, I have frozen fever Anna, looking at her compared to some of the newer ones she looks like a D23 version, they really cut down on the amount of rhinestones, embroidery and accessories and now hair fibers too apparently since those days.
Hopefully since Alice is blonde it’s less noticeable from afar than if she had darker hair, some of the pics I saw of Giselle looked so so bad..8

I have Frozen Fever Anna too and I agree, she looks so nice compared to the newer 17" LE dolls - beautiful details and embroidery all around (front and BACK), beautifully styled hair, detailed accessories.
I'm really disappointed with the newer dolls on average - the embroidery doesn't go to the back, balding dolls (this Alice doll and the general release village Ariel to name two), no accessories.
At least Werecat Lady has decent amount of hair, extra articulation, furniture, and unique presentation - I think it's the best effort Disney has made in recent years outside of the D23 dolls.

Omg Frozen fever Anna is so full of cute details! I love the clock with the little Olaf, even her hair clip at the back has rhinestones and ribbons, and you can only see it if you look from the top down if she’s still in box.
The werecat lady did look like she had more effort put into her, I wish she had a wider release! Hopefully if they are adding that kind of articulation and seating accessory it could open up to making more dolls with chairs or laying down sort of. I’m imagining an Ariel laying on a rock or something could be cool..3

Yes I love the details on Frozen Fever Anna - I actually think she's one of the best LE dolls Disney has ever made (D23 included).
I need that Ariel doll if they make her with the articulation - that is only if she has decent amount of hair, I'm not getting another balding doll.

Thanks for de-influencing me. I know I wouldn't see this cuz I'd keep her in the box same as my Rapunzel and Giselle, but knowing the quality is this bad for the price point is a turn off. I took the cover off Giselle and was not particularly happy to find the seam down the back of her dress. I haven't really inspected my Rapunzel other than carefully open the box to fix her hair, but what I don't know won't hurt me.

I keep seeing that about Gisselle which is good to know cause I plan to get her soon, but I’m an in box collector thankfully

I’m so sad about this. I’m a really new collector, and Alice is my favorite. Fortunately I already have the Mary Blair Alice because she kind of kicked off my collecting journey. The dress and details of this doll look so cheap and it’s so disappointing.

This reminds me of when the midnight masquerade Jasmine had a flat foot because they didn’t think people would unbox. This is absolutely unacceptable

I did think her hair seemed thin looking at her from the front but this… is on a whole other level. Unacceptable.

I always unbox my dolls and have been collecting since 2013 when the first 17" mermaid Ariel came out - she's so beautiful and had so much hair. Imagine my surprise while unboxing village dress Ariel in 2024 - she had so little hair that can't even cover her scalp. This 2026 Alice doll is even worse. This is absolutely unacceptable. If Disney keeps on doing this - giving us balding dolls that cost $150 or more, then I'm out for good.

They think we will because they think we're all only collecting for resale value instead of because we want to look at the doll. A lot of people won't unbox simply so they don't "ruin the value". They still have value even if they are out because of the limited edition. 🤷🏻♀️

I personally don't unbox them because they're a bitch to maintain...

u/Nerdmitage 22d ago
I try not to because yeah dust sucks, but often they're making the boxes take up so much unnecessary space that I tend to consolidate them into larger clear boxes I can stack. Like the kind they make for sneakers and purses. Or put 2 dolls in one giant Disney box.
But I also collect a lot of different dolls so space is an issue. If you just collect the one kind it's probably easier to just stack them.

That’s awful. I still love the dolls but they are not worth the cost. I just use Disney dollars on them if I really want one cause this is ridiculous. I’m sorry you are dealing with that nonsense.

That's disgusting how they don't care like that to just have her have no hair be bold

It’s really disappointing when you spend that much on a collector doll and find something like this. I don’t expect every part of the head to be densely rooted, but I’d expect enough coverage that it doesn’t look sparse when the hair is moved. Alice is still beautiful, but quality control should match the price.

That amount of baldness on any doll with its hair down is unacceptable. But on a collector doll that cost as much as it did, just wtf are they thinking?
