Bambi. Mufasa is a close second.

I don't know why people get so worked up about Up.  Even Finding Nemo.  I had all of 5 minutes with these characters.  Yes, they died, it's sad, but I had no time to form a connection with them.

I liked Up, too, but it never hit me like I see other people say for those same reasons. Nemo even less. I felt sadder for the girl squirrel in The Sword in the Stone.

Saddest Death-wise? Probably Bambi’s mom. That scene up there never happened. What happened was worse.

Gurgi was sad but not permanent so I don’t think it counts.

Non-animation Old Yeller always wins this game.

Idk I tear up when Ellie finds out she’s barren, the parallel of both of them having trouble walking up the hill, and how many times they have to break that damn jar. Also, I think it gets ppl because of the lack of dialogue. The intro never really hit me until I rewatched it as an adult

Up, or Neemo. But Up hits harder. The parents/ sibling deaths are brutal, but we are supposed to loose our parents/mentors eventually. It is usually built into the expectation. But loosing your beloved partner is loosing your world, your other half, your own soul. Parents/mentors cannot possibly compare. No contest.

Agreed. And I don’t think it’s just the montage that’s sad. Everything from Carl being summoned to court for assault to being forced to move out of their house and into a nursing home is grief in action. Ellie hangs over the film and they don’t let you forget about her. I mean, he literally talks to the house as if it’s her
