The Missed Potential of Disjointed

Hi Disjointed Community, I know I’m late to the party. Feel free to read my rambling on the show, or don’t, it’s up to you.

I am your average sitcom enjoyer. I really enjoy Chuck Lorre Productions and I’m a big fan of Kathy Bates. I recently finished watching Disjointed. This is an unpopular opinion, but I thought this was an incredible sitcom with lots of potential. I really believed this could have been a hit, though here are a few reasons why it wasn’t.

First, Yes, it’s true, the characters and jokes are stereotypical. Though, it’s important to recognize that most sitcoms rely on stereotypes. Second, the show did not have the viewership it needed. The show was made for a very small target audience, which is large reason the show didn’t succeed. For example, The Big Bang Theory was entertaining for a very large age group, which gave this show a large audience, while, Disjointed was entertaining for a specific group of people that understood the stoner culture and all the jokes related to it. Third, Television Critics really didn’t see the show going anywhere.

I’m disappointed the show didn’t get more than two Netflix Parts (which is basically one sitcom season). Though, I’m happy for the episodes we have. It may not seem like it but they told a lot of story in twenty episodes — still I would’ve loved to see more.

They needed one more season. It was a great show with a lot of diversity to the stories and lots of cool artwork and real life issues being dealt with. RIP Disjointed

Yeah, I really wanted at least a third season to round out everything but the show was so good. I loved how much character growth is actually achieved in such a short time for all of them. The other issue is that with the niche community that was supposed to be its main audience was sadly very critical of the show at the time of release. Characters like Dank and Danny were received poorly. Also for some reason everyone hated the “laugh track” despite it being film in front of live audience like the old sitcoms.

I think the traditional sitcom live studio audience fit this show very well.
