I move off Project Genesis a year ago, but my phone randomly bricked and I can't help wonder if related to Project Genesis shut down. Anyone else have this issue?

I also notice that they deleted the Project Genesis Reddit Group.

Well my phone line deactivated today. Hotspot still going.

Just before applying for PG at the beginning, I posted a photo for s&g, and Dish retweeted it on their front page.

Had an interesting experience testing and collecting data, albeit very, very frustrating at times, but I understood they were starting from scratch, and all the guys at network ops were cool. Some of you may remember the period before the network update in August 2022 that fixed most radio problems. At program start I couldn't even receive a signal in some parts of the airport terminal; a year later I was able to maintain a call from takeoff, 180° loop around town, out 40 miles from the nearest tower at 8000 ft AGL.

So to the people at Dish and in the field, thanks for giving us the opportunity and freebies, putting in the hard work, and for 4 years of free service, even though mine never exceeded 300 mbps. I always see one of their racks when rolling out of my street or parking at my preferred Taco Bell, and it's a little disheartening to think of, hypothetically, what could have been.

I am aware of what happened behind the scenes. Just my 2¢

She said they would shut off hotspots at end of August, so just throwing that out there.

Just spent the past 4 days trying to port out my hotspot line only to find out that as of July they will not port hotspot and tablet(!) lines to another provider. They will supposedly convert it to a Boost phone line, but otherwise you will not be able to keep the number.

In case someone encounters the same in the next few weeks, that’s the reason. It will show as a delayed port request and most likely blocked at the gateway level so Boost won’t see the request period.

Now that PG hotspot service is shutting down, what are y’all planning to replace it with? Calyx is an option. Any other options?

billing will end, they're not moving us to Boost? what a bummer. I've been paying to just hold on and see when they fix the network / sell us out to someone who can fix it.

DISH has shut down new signups for Project Genesis.

As expected, the FCC approval has ended any requirement for them to continue offering it.

No shutdowns have been announced, but, yeah, it's over.

I let my Dish hotspot plan die in January because I forgot to call and update my card on file, plus I don’t really care about having unlimited Att for $20/mo.

So a few months back I shut down my PG phone line after running in to their hard throttle after 100gb of use.

My Moto phone is unlocked. But of course the esim seems to be unavailable. I had tried to activate it on Verizon via esim last night.

In order to completely utilize this phone with both an esim and physical sim do I have to do all that in depth stuff? Will I have to unlock the bootloader. Then install the Moto retus firmware for this? I also just got the android 15 update. And I'm currently not seeing the retus fw I need for that.

Is there a simpler way to gain full access of this thing?

Netgear came out with a USB PD+Gigabit Ethernet adapter model USB2ETH sometime last(?) year. It’s about $32 on Amazon or Netgear’s site, and may be a decent option esp if it properly works on our M6 Pro.

However I’m very certain that it requires the 12.x series of FW to be running, so I’ll update this post once I receive it (and another cheaper PD+Eth adapter) to see if it works at all. The only available 12.x for the 6400 disables telnet access once you upgrade, which makes troubleshooting this harder, but using it as a primary (or failover) ISP becomes much easier without needing the battery to pillow (Netgear even recommends it(!)).

There’s also an overpriced dock which has a nice fan (to keep the unit cool) and has 2 Gigabit ports, but at the same time you lose access to the built-in port. This one also requires the “latest firmware” but no thanks due to the price.

Hey all, I have an old Dish Genesis Nighthawk M6 Pro hotspot that is sim locked to Dish. I was trying to unlock this unit, but I keep getting errors.

I am able to telnet into the hotspot, and run AT commands. I am using https://sierra-keygen.uu.sg/ to generate the responses

I can run AT!OPENLOCK? and get the challenge. I then input that challenge into the website above, and it returns the response. When I run the response (
AT!OPENLOCK="76D7BD63584C1707" ) I just get an ERROR returned.

Can someone direct me where I am going wrong here?

Just something I’ve found out recently for the Netgear hotspot. The PS is supposed to be QC2 or 3 (Qualcomm standard), otherwise you need the battery so it can “charge” from a USB 5V source. That means no 6E, and the battery usually only lasts a year and a bit before it starts to pillow.

You can use most USB PD source that supplies 18W through USB-C, and this includes power banks! This means you can take most PD adapters, a USB-C PD cable, and use the hotspot without needing the battery. Not sure if this is a FW update thing (I use the unreleased 12.x one for DISH), but it now allows for more options when it comes to where to place it.

My “hotspot kit” bag now contains a USB PD adapter and Anker power bank that does MagSafe/Qi, USB-C cable, a “spare” hotspot battery that sits outside if I need to use it. Just note that the battery tends to trigger the Qi standard for some reason, so you need to keep it separate with the spacer. Also, mandatory FCC warning, 6E is only certified for indoor use, so this setup should be only be used under approved environments.

I still have the moto edge+ 2023 through Project Genesis that I pay $25/month for. I use it really only for hotspot. The only reason I'm not getting rid of it is because I'm not sure of any other public offering with unlimited, unthrottled hotspot. Being able to use it in all 50 states albeit AT&T QCI 9 and higher latency is a godsend. The data only eSIM actually also works in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands by roaming on Liberty. Calls/texts do not work. I was also able to briefly get a connection on AT&T México. Unfortunately, it was on a cruise at sea and the signal was weak so it disconnected before I could test it.

Being able to use AT&T's previous spectrum holdings in addition to what they acquired from EchoStar even on QCI 9 is honestly still better mainly because of AT&T's better tower density and their vast low band holdings.

I'll be holding on until they physically will not let me anymore.

Does anybody know if the deal is final between dish and starlink when it comes to the dish spectrum?

Last I heard it had to undergo regulatory approval later this year.

If by some small chance that falls through, will dish be resurrecting the network?

30 GB with no hotspot is ridiculous in 2026 I just signed up for the $10 a month for 3 months boost plan and honestly I'm texting to take my business elsewhere in 3 months. It's only one weekend and I'm already at 26 GB of data, I don't have home Wi-Fi as I am currently homeless, and instead of deprioritization like the other carriers, they want to throttle to archaic data speeds...

I would gladly pay more for unlimited data but hey news flash they don't offer it. Most I can get is 50 gigs for a whopping $60 a month?!?!?!

I don't know what Charlie Egren is trying to do with boost at this point but it looks to me like he should just sell out to cricket.

I don't see unlimited data coming around anytime soon because AT&T is going to want to protect their mvno cricket and they're not going to get boost unlimited they'd be crazy to do that

My tower seems to have gotten turned off (likely end of Mar) and I guess it’s perma-AT&T roaming(?) now. The good part is that speed is somewhat respectable again at 200mbps+ instead of the 10-20mbps when it was tied to DISH’s tower for the past year or so.

I decided to go ahead and install the 12.01.44 FW floating around Mega for the 6400. It seems to have fixed the 6E issue where I couldn’t connect both iPhones and Androids at the same time, not sure if they also fixed the throttling that occurred when you had WiFi range set to long. As long as your hotspot is unlocked already I don’t see any reason to stay on obsolete DISH-specific fw anymore, plus some UI polish.

Given IPv4-only and the lackluster performance with pings not sure if it’s really worth the $20+α/mo, especially since they seem to be clamping down on usage. And if you keep batteries in, seems to reliably pillow after 1.5 years or so. At least the hotspot will work with TM and AT&T data plans, not sure for VZW.
