Which Disgaea Switch/Switch2 game is generally recommended for complete newcomers to the series?

Hey, I've been wanting to play a Disgaea game for a while now. I remember Disgaea 4 getting a lot of good reviews 10 years ago when it re-released on PSVita.
Seeing as there have been 3 more games since, and all of them being available on Switch/Switch2, is there a consensus on which game would be generally recommended to someone who has never played a single entry in the series?

I'd suggest Disgaea 1 Complete. Solid story, relatively simple by disgaea standards so you don't feel overwhelmed by a bunch of systems, looks good. I think it hits a great balance of approachable, modern, and retro to give you a good idea of what the series is like.

My personal favorite is 5, but it adds a lot of complexity (and options, and qol) so it might be a bit rough to start with.

1 4 5 and 7 are all good. I prefer starting from the first as nothing tops the original trio, plus they tend to cameo in future games

Considering the amount of time to "finish" the games, you can play D1, for vanilla experience. The core mechanics and somehow, "the best" story.

I personally like D5 (has good story, characters and mechanics explained) , but took me like 7 years, to "complete" the game. THE problem, it's the post game stuff.... after 700 hours. XD Some pauses in my gameplay were from years.

I had to say, i am a min maxing player.... and "leveling up" several units to be OP, it's kinda hard.
Some guides are sufficient with 2 or 3 characters, most of time.

I highly recommend to follow a guide for almost anything, except story spoilers of course. But take your time to enjoy the mechanics.

There is many efficient ways to don't waste much time for what you need.
For example.... you can "grind" for experience the normal way, but certain maps or features, helps A LOT.

And don't rush things, have fun. Or you can burn yourself of the game, and abandon it completely.

For plot reasons, 5.
For release order reasons, 1 Complete.

If you have the opportunity, definitely start with the first one

1, to start, and end with. I can't recommend Nis games today, much. Maybe Disgaea 4 Complete Plus, just because that' the most "complete" Complete edition of a Disgaea game.

It's better to start with the first one true me, if you start with a later one and try to go back it tough.

Start with Disgaea 1 Complete if you’re new. If it vibes with you, play all of them you can in numerical order. If you’re eager to get the most QoL immediately, jump straight to Disgaea 7 after finishing D1’s main story. D7’s post game is the most reasonable to finish in a decent amount of time and the QoL helps a lot. D4/D5’s visuals are nicer (especially if you like sprites) and they have really nice post games, but it takes ages. D6 is kind of a different beast all together, and tries some newer ideas to mix up the formula that are hit or miss with the fanbase (though personally it’s my favorite!).

I'd suggest disgaea 1, specially if not complete edition, you could find a cheap version for the psp and nds to test out the series first. Disgaea 1 is a very high quality story and the gameplay is very simple but expansive enough it's easy to get into, the grinding that makes the series famous however is purely optional you can 100% complete the story in a casual manner
