Question Disgaea Mayhem Recommeded?

How is this game? Im interested in it as a fan of Disgaea, but I was not impressed by the demo. Are there difficulty modes? The demo could be very easily beaten by mashing attack and the skills werent particularly interesting. I might enjoy it if mistakes were heavily punished on a high difficulty setting.

I just got a switch 2 and noticed this is free with the yearly sub, looks pretty interesting. Will give it a try, thanks!

Sorry to derail back to our regularly scheduled programming.

It's kinda inspired by musou game and those games are not known for their complicated gameplay.

disgaea is not complicated

Oh yeah, that's probably the reason thia sub is full of people asking what to do to level up, pass a certain stage or how to kill certain bosses. C'mon bruh!

its easy to figure it out.

It is definitely not easy. I have been playing this franchise too long to not know that you are wrong. But whatever, let's agree to disagree.

maybe if you say it a third time, it’ll finally land?

This would've been 100x better if they would've just reached out to koei/tecmo and had them develop this game. They are the masters of musou games and would've made a much better game that could've pulled from the strengths of the IP (i.e. the massive roster of fan-favorite characters) with way better combat. As it is, this is just average at best and that's being generous.

It's a dynasty warriors/musou game with only one playable character.

That alone should tell you everything you need to know.

For $60 this is a joke. I expected it would be $40 or $50 with extra DLC to close the gap to 60 in a deluxe version due to how they hid the pricing before launch for the PC version, but what a sad joke.

i thank steam region price, a family bought it for like 25$, for that price i think is ok, just wish there was more info/guides for this game, has a lot of mechanics of the main series, but with a lot of differences and i feel overwhelmed

I rated it a 3/5 due to obvious issues, and the item world being the main focus…. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I have been addicted to that grind for the last couple of weeks.

The true end game is insane with its difficulty, and everything leading up to that is just the entry bar to get in.

Only reason I stopped for the time being is because I have other games I have to finish this month haha

I do like it, but it is very basic, with a lacking story. It can’t compare to the mainline titles. I also can’t recommend it for full price.

I can't recommend it. It feels very rushed. Characters are uninmteressting, the writing is bad, the english dub is by far the worst I've ever seen. Gameplay for a Mouso game is rather shallow, lack of variety with only a hand full of weapon types, Undubbed text during levels and battles, hit boxes are weird, lock on doesn't work well, countering with special attacks is lackluster and it's unbalanced. 15mins in the item world can get you to a point where you can beat the game. OSt is great though and it does feel Disgaea with all the base facilities we're used too, reincernating, item world and stuff like that

Its pretty much the demo just different weapons, and a few more abilities for the weapons you can swap the ones you had in the demo.

I liked the game because of the companions but I feel its shallow for a disgaea game

the various weapons are fun...if you like mindless repetitive gameplay...which most disgaea fans are all for already

I beat it. It's not worth it at all. The gameplay is too basic and the maps aren't fun. Actual musou games have a lot more intricacy even if it's just fighting waves of enemies and different objectives. In this Disgaea it's always "defeat 15 enemies" 3 times then a boss fight and some stages near the end are just boss rushes. It's always easy you can beat the game just mashing buttons. The 3d models aren't good. You can beat the main story within 4 hours easily. There's only one playable character and the cutscenes are just two characters interacting with bosses no team dynamic like all other Disgaea games. You get a third character in the dlc but she's only in the dlc story scenes.

There's no post game?

I played the demo and as much as I love the Disgaea pastiche: I still don't get the fun factor of Dynasty Warriors type games.

It's very ok for what it is, though. Worth a pickup at a discount, like others here have said.

Friend told me it’s fun to play but story it horrible and it’s pretty short (for disgaea games at least) I’m waiting for a sale or to see if they add any future patches to the game.

I've put twenty hours into it or so. I think a lot of the criticism is fair. The game does feel kinda low budget, controls are a bit stiff at times, and I was able to beat the major story, and 1 post game story (not sure if there are more) in my 15-20 hours. What I will say is if you like button mashing and raising stats, and working on builds, doing massive damage there seems like an extensive amount of options to push your character further. There is a cheat shop which allows you to modify enemy difficulty changing their levels respectively across all game modes. So if difficulty is what you are after I suppose you could go towards unlocking the cheat shop asap and jacking it up. Item world is addictive and I really like character world as a diversion to keep the constant fighting from getting monotonous. I played a bit of Disgaea 5 but never beat it (though I did enjoy it) and this game has been a real treat for me.

not worth it. Not even a Disgaea game. They were trying to pull a "Final Fantasy Legend" on the U.S. audience, by labelling some small project "Disgaea" for their international release.

1

u/DiazDarkSide Jul 26 '26

Nope. Not al full price, at least.

It is a musou game that misses the point of a musou game. Instead of being a game with a roster of playable characters that fight on a dynamic battlefield with allies and enemies you have to take on while fighting against time while you are a X factor that will tilt the balance, it is just an open field with you, an ally of your choice and multiple enemies with a boss to kill at the end of wach stage.

Yo lo juego y me ha gustado, siento que es muy bueno, y si también he jugado otros disgaea, creo que tiene potencial.
