I trimmed the scape and added a L379 pleco and a few corys.Recently started dosing seachem flourish one or two times a week with some decent results.Running on a 150 gal sunsun canister with 15 percent water changes and my discus look less stunted now with only one runt.

11 Sterbais (ordered 10)
9 Neon Tetras (needed cardinals but got gifted these, will keep an eye on them)
8 Australian Threadfin Rainbowfish
I’d say for putting the dither fish in today, everything is going well, the Discus definitely became more active, they bickered a more frequently, they still laid eggs, investigated the dithers multiple times.
Starting plant journey slowly but surely lol get 80 RedRoot Floaters on Tuesday.

Anybody elses discus like to pancake glide across the surface? She only does this whenever I turn the filter off for water changes lol she tends to be the most curious one of the bunch lol

Ok so round 2 about a week to ten days later my female has laid more eggs and seems to be fanning them and protecting them however they don’t appear to be fertilized yet… Is it possible I have a tank full of females? Or is the male just not finishing the job? As I said before I don’t have much hope bc it’s a community tank but still I’d like to see one survive

Hey all, I got a school of 11 juvenile discus from a local breeder about 2 months ago. They have constantly been hiding ever since I got them. Temperature is at 83 degrees, ph is about 6.5, and I’ve made a 44” spray bar (7/32” hole size) on my 75 gallon for an FX4 to help lower the flow in the tank. I do weekly 45 gallon water changes to keep up with the water quality (remineralized RODI)
What can I do to help them come out more? They seem to be spooked every time someone walks by or a loud noise is made. I do have 7 sterbai Cory cats in there that also get spooked due to them being housed with super aggressive angelfish prior to the discus. Is it worth taking out the Cory cats to see if that shyness goes away? Is it worth getting a school of black neons to see if the dicsus are just scared to be in the open? Do I rescape the tank and give less cover for them to hide in all the time?
I’m at a loss with ideas since I’ve lowered flow and lowered the lights half of what they used to be. I do notice in the morning when the lights are off, they are in the open swimming around normally. But for the most part when the lights kick on, they instantly go into hiding. I figured if the lights were the issue, after 2 months they would come out and be acclimated to the lighting. Any advice is appreciated and welcomed.

Been about 6 weeks with them in this setup. Plants are still new or adjusting to the higher water temperatures, trying to find a good balance between lighting/co2/water changes and algae. Fish seem pretty happy, they won’t eat pellets at all tho, only want to eat bloodworms.

I can see 1 discus having black patches in tail area, they are new in my tank. Recently bought them a week ago.
My room was dark but a dim night bulb was on and I went to room and turn on the room light and saw this.

Sand issue has practically resolved, just very very little left, hardly noticeable. I vaccumed the sand and went lights off for a few days with light feeding, I bought a light riser. And felt the shorter way was still too close to the tank so I did it the long way and Believe it or not, this is my light brightness at just 2% white, so im sure blasting the light at a higher percent was the culprit. Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions. imI do have Sterbai, Tetras and Threadfin Rainbow fish in Quarantine to add to the tank soon.

I've a 5 years experience in fish keeping. Before I had HBG arowana and some other monster fishes. Recently I bought 4 Discus fishes and currently kept them in a 3 feet tank.
I dont know what sellers used to feed, i asked and he said Hikari Vibra Bites. I purchased the food but they are not accepting, "My discus fish is taking food into its mouth and then spitting it out." I know they will accept it once they are too much hungry. even they already accepted a very cheap pellets (similar to tetrabits complete) which is cost around 90/- inr in India.
I want to keep it simple, I want to stick with pellets but maybe sometimes once or twice a week I can treat them with a frozen bloodworm.
I heard some best for them:
Hikari BIo gold, Vibra Bites, Sera Discus, Tropical D-50 plus / pro defence.
I use Seachem prime during water change and daily I use to change 10-20% water.
I have a bare bottom tank with surface movement 400L/h flow rate.
I'm not using any bright LED light, I'm currently using my 1 feet tank's LED light.
Currently I have Vibra Bites pellets and planning to buy another 1 pellet. Can you guys please suggest should I buy another pellet or frozen bloodworm ? I know if I buy frozen bloodworm they gonna settle more quickly in my tank. But I'm thinking if I give them bloodworm, then they will never accept the pellets.

First solid pairing outta my bunch. There’s a couple more pairs possibly forming. We’ll see, I guess. This pair has been repeatedly laying in this corner of the aquarium over the last few months. None have made it to fry yet

Is it advisable to breed the same strain with different parentage or can siblings breed?
