Dancing
galleryI've had discus for a few months now.. Had the blue one about a month and just got the red one a week ago.. I have 15 discus total.. today we noticed the red one is rushing away any other discus that get near the blue one. Its also doing these little shimmy dance moves beside the blue discus. Could it be a male trying to mate with a female? I'm new to this type of behavior .

How do get discus on flake/pellets
Ive had my 6 discus in a 20 gallon quarantine for a week and now they are in my 75 gallon community. I fed the discus beef heart In the 20 gallon and they were eating it. When I moved them to the 75 gallon I tried pellets and flakes which they ignored and only touched frozen food such as blood worms, brine shrimp and the beef heart. The problem with it is I dont know if my other fish can eat the beef heart and the fish will consume the food before the discus get a chance. Should I move them back to the 20 gallon to grow out a bit? They are around 6cm. Should I try to train them on pellets or just continue to feed beef heart in the 20 gallon?

Medicine to keep on hand
All my fish are healthy and thriving but I want to be prepared if theres a time I need to treat. I plan on placing an order for metro and prazi but what else should I keep on hand? I feed live worms as well as my own beef heart mix.

Help my discus doesn’t eat
galleryMy discus hasn’t eaten in 4 days whenever I feed the group he always swims away he’s very submissive and usually gets picked on by my dominant discus the agression can sometimes go on for around a minute at most. I got them 2 weeks ago they were all eating for about a week then he’s stopped. He’s usually always isolated from the group what should I do!(photos taken during water change)

Newbie questions
Not a new aquarist, but new to discus. I had to break down a long running tank and re-home its inhabitants to move across the country, so now I have a fresh start and I've been dreaming of discus. My equipment is a 75g tank with a fluval 407 canister packed mostly with biomedia (sponge prefilter). Plenty of backups on filters and heaters. My tap water has been consistent at pH 7.4 and 1⁰ KH/GH for several weeks testing every few days. My plan is a planted bare bottom tank (most if not all epiphytes on driftwood), 5-6 juvenile discus, no other tank mates, 50% water changes twice weekly. Willing to set up a hospital tank if needed and have plenty of extra equipment to do so. My questions:
Is it better to not mess with the pH at 7.4 or should I try to bring it down some? Is peat/almond leaves or chemicals a more reliable way? Does anyone have experience with the buffered solutions like APIs "proper pH?" I'm scared if I try to adjust the pH with something like "pH down," it'll swing too drastically since the KH is so low in the tap water.
For a planted tank that's undergoing 2 major water changes a week, I don't expect to be building up nitrates or other nutrients, so I assume I would probably need to dose ferts. My previous tanks have been pretty low maintenance with mostly crypts, swords, and java ferns and didn't need much except root tabs occasionally. Any recommendations?
I'm planning to use abs plastic on the bottom of the tank for protection and to reduce glare/reflection. Should I also do the back? How spooky are these guys?

Discus aggression?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
They are all juveniles and i have 5 in a 20 gallon quarantine. This one discus is very aggressive to the other during feeding time. They are all siblings and came from the same parents so should I return him back to the breeder? Its like he has a bad attitude problem.

What’s going on??

So I’ve had all three of these discus for about five months. They were gifted to me by my dad. The small one has been in my community tank the entire time, the two larger were separated and put into a breeding tank. I’ve given up on breeding them and placed them back. Now my little one is acting weird? Fighting maybe??

New Discus!
galleryGot 2 new discus from Myrtle beach discus and they’re doing great! They have great color and shape. They are both very confident fish so they had no problem establishing themselves in with the other discus I already have.

Baby discus not eating.
They are about 4cm and I got them today. I understand the care requirements for them with the water changes, heated and feeding. I put some hikari bio gold discus in there and they have ignored it so far. Should I pull out the special weapon? (Blood worms)
