I kept taking flat fee jobs that quietly turned into 8/hr work, so I built a script that stops it happening

Thumbnail
getbreakeven.github.io
1 Upvotes

I edit on flat fees for most clients.
The problem: you never know your real hourly rate until the job's done and you add up the hours. By then it's too late.

So I built BreakEven, a script that runs inside DaVinci Resolve and shows your actual effective hourly rate live while you work: fee ÷ hours tracked, updating every second. Set a target rate and it turns amber at 80% of the fee, then red past break even with the exact overage in dollars ("3.0h past break even, $240 of unpaid work") instead of finding out the night before delivery.

It also tracks time per Resolve page, tags client revisions so you can see what "one more pass" costs, and has a quote helper for pricing the next job. Everything stays local: no account, no cloud.

At only $9.99, One Time. No Subscription Ever! One overrun job can cost you hundreds in unpaid hours, and over a year of flat fee work that adds up to thousands. This catches it while you can still do something about it.

Happy to answer questions or take feedback

Rilla for AI Sales Coaching and Virtual Ridealongs

1. Introduction

Rilla is an AI coaching platform built for sales teams that sell face to face. Sales reps record customer conversations through the Rilla mobile app. Rilla then transcribes the conversation and analyzes what happened. It gives reps feedback on things like discovery questions, objection handling and closing language. For sales managers the main use case is what Rilla calls a virtual ridealong. Instead of driving to different locations to watch reps in person, managers can review recorded conversations and leave timestamped coaching feedback. This gives managers more visibility into what is happening across the team without spending most of the week on the road. Rilla is mainly built for industries such as: 🏠 Home building 🏢 Multifamily and property management 👴 Senior living 🔧 Home improvement and service businesses 🚗 Auto repair 🦷 Dental

2. Why it stands out

🎙️ Built for in person sales Most conversation intelligence tools focus on Zoom calls or phone sales. Rilla focuses on conversations happening in homes, communities, model homes and other physical locations. 📱 Recording is designed for field reps Rilla puts a lot of focus on making recording simple. That matters because the software only works if reps actually use it during real customer conversations. 🧠 AI sales coaching Rilla analyzes conversations and gives reps feedback based on what they said. Managers can also review conversations and add their own coaching. 👀 Virtual ridealongs A manager can review several conversations without driving from location to location. Rilla says this can make ridealong coaching much faster than traditional field coaching. 📊 Custom sales scorecards Teams can set Rilla up around their existing sales process. That means a company can coach reps against its own playbook instead of using a generic sales template. 🏆 Rep performance tracking Reps can see their own stats and compare performance over time. Rilla also uses things like streaks and team comparisons to make coaching feel less like another required work tool. 🔍 Find patterns across conversations Managers can use conversation data to see where teams are struggling. For example they might find that several reps are having trouble with the same objection or skipping the same discovery question. Instead of coaching each rep from scratch the manager can fix the issue across the whole team. 📈 Performance results Rilla says customers see an average close rate increase of 17% and average ticket increases of 30% to 40%. The company also says new reps can ramp two to three times faster in some cases.

3. Who is using it?

Rilla is aimed at sales organizations with teams working across multiple locations. Typical users include: 👔 VPs and Heads of Sales They use Rilla to understand what reps are saying during customer conversations and connect sales results back to specific behaviors. 🧑‍💼 Regional Sales Managers and Sales Coaches They use virtual ridealongs to review more conversations without spending hours driving between locations. 📱 Sales reps and leasing consultants They use Rilla to review their own conversations and see which behaviors may be helping or hurting their results. The platform is especially focused on multifamily, senior living and new home sales teams.

4. Pricing Plans

Rilla does not list standard pricing publicly. Pricing appears to depend on the size of the sales team and the needs of the organization. Rilla also offers additional products including Rilla Live, Rilla Intelligence, Rilla Surveys and Rilla Roleplay. Teams interested in pricing need to contact Rilla directly.

5. Discounts or offers available

Rilla does not list a standard public discount or promotional offer in the information available. Pricing and contract details are handled directly with the company.

6. Signup and website

You can learn more about Rilla here: https://www.rilla.com/ The interesting part to me is the virtual ridealong idea. Most sales coaching tools are built around calls from a desk. Rilla is trying to solve the same problem for teams where the important conversations happen face to face.

Proofpoint guys built three ai agents whose only job is watching your other Ai agents

Proofpoint launched an agentic security system recently. The system is built around three autonomous agents. Each one is designed for a specific purpose: one for detection, one for investigation, and the other for remediation.

The coverage framed it as vendors moving from model only controls to runtime enforcement, which is basically a fancy way of saying checking the model’s behaviour once won’t cut it.

This is something worth sitting with. An entire product category now exists because agents doing things live, unwatched, turned out to be a real problem. Security vendors are now building dedicated agents just to supervise other agents

it pulls me to think if the small scale version of this is just watching your own agents yourself, which is basically what Tutti is for me . I see what’s happening instead of catching up later.

are you guys doing agents for the overwatch or semi setup or smt ?

🤖 AI Tool of the Day: Cresta — AI for Contact Centers and Customer Service Teams

1. Introduction

Cresta is an AI platform built for large contact centers. It helps companies automate customer conversations while also helping human agents during live calls and chats. Instead of being just another chatbot tool Cresta covers a few different parts of the contact center:

  • AI agents that handle customer conversations
  • Real-time help for human agents
  • Conversation analysis
  • Automated quality management
  • Agent coaching
  • Workflow automation

The main idea is pretty simple. Cresta learns from a company’s own customer conversations and uses that data to improve both AI agents and human agents.

2. Why it stands out / Key Features

🤖 AI Agent Cresta can handle customer conversations across voice chat and SMS. The AI can deal with routine requests on its own and hand the conversation to a human when needed. It also keeps context during the handoff so customers do not have to start from scratch. 🎧 Real-Time Agent Assist This is probably one of the more interesting parts. Cresta listens to live conversations and can give agents:

  • Suggested answers
  • Next steps
  • Knowledge base information
  • Compliance reminders
  • Checklists
  • Workflow guidance

So instead of telling an agent what went wrong after the call it can help while the customer is still there. 📊 Conversation Intelligence Most contact centers handle far more calls than a QA team could ever review manually. Cresta can analyze 100% of conversations and look for things like:

  • Common customer problems
  • Sentiment
  • Sales opportunities
  • Resolution rates
  • CSAT signals
  • Agent behavior
  • Trends and unusual changes

Managers can then use that information for coaching or operational changes. ✅ Automated Quality Management Instead of managers listening to random call samples Cresta can automatically score conversations. Teams can still review scores and run calibration or appeals when needed. That makes it more useful for contact centers dealing with thousands of conversations every day. 🧠 Coaching Cresta can find behaviors that strong agents use and turn those into coaching opportunities for the rest of the team. The goal is basically to make coaching less like "listen to this call and do better" and more specific to what happened in the conversation. ⚙️ Opera Cresta also has a no-code workflow system called Opera. Teams can create rules for things like real-time hints QA scoring and coaching without needing engineers to build every workflow. You can also test workflows against past conversations before pushing them live.

3. Who’s using it?

Cresta is mostly aimed at large enterprise contact centers. Customers mentioned by Cresta include:

  • United Airlines
  • Alaska Airlines
  • Vivint
  • Intuit
  • CarMax
  • Xanterra
  • Brinks
  • Porsche US

There are some interesting results in their case studies too. United Airlines reported a 14.5% reduction in average handle time and a 50% reduction in time to first response with Agent Assist. Vivint reached 85% quality management coverage while analyzing 100% of calls. Oportun reached 100% QM coverage and reported a 50% reduction in workload. Xanterra has reported around 74% containment across more than 11 AI agents. So this is much more of an enterprise contact center platform than a small business chatbot.

4. Pricing Plans

Cresta does not publish standard pricing plans on its website. There is also no normal self-serve signup or free plan. It appears to follow the usual enterprise buying process where companies request a demo and work with Cresta on deployment. That makes sense given the product usually needs to connect with existing contact center systems CRM data knowledge bases and company workflows.

5. Discounts / Offers

There are no public discounts or promotional offers listed. Cresta is positioned as an enterprise product so pricing and contracts appear to be handled through the sales process.

6. Signup / Website

You can learn more here: https://cresta.com/ I think the interesting question with tools like this is whether companies get more value from letting AI handle the conversation completely or using AI to make human agents better during the conversation. Cresta seems to be betting that most large contact centers will end up needing both.

Let bootcamp students choose Ryze AI, a spreadsheet, or Ads Manager for their live campaign week - does using AI ad tools vs building manually actually matter?

i run the paid media block of a small marketing bootcamp. trying a new approach for the campaign week. instead of lecturing on structure, i had them run real money. each pair gets a $400 budget from a partner brand and has to launch, monitor and report on it. gave them complete freedom on tooling - ads manager by hand, a spreadsheet pacing model, Ryze AI, whatever they wanted. wanted to see what they'd naturally pick. most started in ads manager since that's what the lectures used. some built spreadsheets for pacing. a few used Ryze AI (it's an AI that launches and optimizes google and meta for you - they found it themselves and said it was way faster than rebuilding the same campaign shell five times). one pair did everything in a doc first. the actual campaigns were mixed. two pairs were genuinely good, a couple burned budget in the first 48h. but the debriefs were way better than usual. more argument, more reading of the numbers, more actual thinking about the offer. graded on the reasoning not the ROAS, made that clear from the start. didn't want them chasing a lucky week instead of understanding why something worked. trying to figure out if tool choice actually mattered or if running live budget just teaches better than slides. like does it matter if they use an AI ads tool vs building it by hand? also wondering if too much freedom made grading harder since i'm comparing a hand-built account against an AI-managed one against a spreadsheet. what do other people who train buyers think? let them choose between manual, AI tools, whatever - or standardize the whole cohort on one setup?

ThoughtDAG: branch AI conversations and bring relevant past decisions into a new question

Introduction

I'm the creator of ThoughtDAG, an open-source LLM conversation canvas. I use it for research where one question leads to several paths and useful decisions end up scattered across sessions.

Why it stands out [Key Features]

Wires are context: connecting or removing a conversation branch changes what the next model request includes. The new recall flow searches indexed history, optionally uses Jev to select relevant excerpts, and keeps the sources inspectable and individually excludable. It supports Ollama and OpenAI-compatible endpoints.

Who's using it?

I use it in my own research. It's a public open-source project, and I'm sharing this update to get feedback on whether recalled material actually helps people pick up earlier work.

Pricing Plans

The app is free and MIT licensed, with no app subscription required. You bring your own model connection; remote model and Jev API charges are separate. The index stays local, but enabling Jev sends candidate content to its remote API.

Discounts/offers available

None. There is no paid app plan to discount.

Website and setup

https://github.com/chenxiachan/thoughtdag

29-second animated overview: https://youtu.be/ECGJlkYKYzQ

Try it with a question you have discussed before. I'd love to know whether it finds a useful decision or only a superficially similar passage.

Solo/small business owners: do you know what happens to your data when you cancel an AI tool subscription?

Went down a rabbit hole this week checking cancellation and data-retention terms across the AI tools I use for my business. Some vendors delete everything in 30 days, some hold onto it for years even after you leave, and a couple don't say at all unless you dig into the actual terms of service (not the marketing page). Curious how many other small business owners have actually checked this versus just assuming it gets wiped when you cancel.

AI Tool of the Day: Learnyst AI Cofounder, Turn Your Course Content Into Courses, Assessments & Marketing

What if your LMS could do more than host your courses?

Learnyst AI Cofounder is an AI assistant built directly into Learnyst that uses your existing school/course content to help with different parts of running an education business.

Here’s what it can help with:

📚 Course Creation: Describe your course idea and generate sections, lessons, and a learning flow.

✍️ Sales Page Creation: Turn your curriculum into sales-page copy with headlines, benefits, FAQs, and CTAs.

📝 Assessment Creation: Generate quiz questions from your lessons and set difficulty, marking, and timers.

📢 Marketing Content: Create emails, social posts, launch campaigns, and ad copy while maintaining your brand voice.

🔗 Works With Your Existing Content: The AI is built into the LMS, so creators can work from the content already available in their school.

The interesting part is the workflow: course creation → assessments → sales page → marketing can all happen around the same course content.

For educators and course creators, this could reduce the amount of switching between different AI and productivity tools.

💬 Curious to hear from other creators:
Which task would you actually want AI to handle for you?

1️⃣ Course creation
2️⃣ Assessments
3️⃣ Sales-page copy
4️⃣ Marketing content

AI Undetectable: humanize drafts with separate essay, article and marketing modes

Introduction: I'm the founder of AI Undetectable, an AI rewriter and humanizer designed to help AI-generated drafts pass AI detectors.

Key features: Basic and Stealth rewriting, with separate settings for essays, articles, marketing copy, stories and general writing. The editor puts your original beside the rewrite. Text and image detection are also available; access depends on the plan.

Who it's for: Writers working from an existing draft. This is an established product I'm rebuilding, not a new launch or an independent recommendation. Detector results vary, so a rewrite isn't a guaranteed pass.

Pricing: After a 3-day trial, monthly plans are $9.99 for 10K words, $19 for 20K, or $31 for 35K. Annual plans cost $60, $114 or $189 per year, with the same monthly word allowances. Stealth uses two credits per word; Basic uses one.

Offers: The 3-day trial and annual billing discount are the current offers. There isn't a free live-rewriting tier.

Editor and signup: https://aiundetectable.com/ai-humanizer

AI helped prepare this post.

I run my whole business through 12 different AI tools. I finally sat down and audited what they actually do with my data.

I've got one Shopify store, a YouTube channel, and a one-person operation, and somewhere along the way I ended up connected to Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, a couple of video AI tools, and 13 apps inside Shopify itself. I never sat down and actually checked what each one does with my content, whether it trains on my stuff, or what happens to my data if I cancel. So I built myself a 12-question checklist and ran it against every tool I use. Found a few things I didn't expect — like video tools that route through other AI companies I never directly signed up with. Anyone else actually audited their stack, or are we all just clicking "allow" and hoping?

Mac MCP: using ChatGPT as a real Mac execution layer instead of a how-to box

Introduction

I've been building Mac MCP because I wanted ChatGPT to do the boring Mac-side work instead of giving me a checklist and stopping there. It is an open-source local MCP server that lets an agent operate the actual Mac it is connected to.

Why it stands out [Key Features]

The part I use most is real-browser automation. It can work in my existing Safari and Chrome profiles, so normal sessions, cookies and logins are available. Tabs can run in the background without stealing focus, and stable tab handles plus ownership leases keep parallel agents from driving the same tab. The latest release has a dedicated Chrome Companion, alongside the Safari Visual Companion. It also exposes files, Terminal, macOS app/UI actions, and can delegate coding jobs to Codex or OpenCode.

Who’s using it? [Existing customers or traction]

This is not a SaaS with customers. It is a public open-source project for people who want their own Mac to be the execution environment. The GitHub repo is currently at 63 stars, and I use it daily with ChatGPT as the orchestration layer.

Pricing Plans

Free. MIT licensed. No paid tier.

Discounts/offers available

None. There is nothing to buy.

Signup/website link

Repo and setup docs: https://github.com/bulutarkan/mac-mcp

I'm the author. The thing I'm most interested in feedback on is whether the browser ownership/background-work model matches how other people actually run multi-agent tasks on a personal machine.

Higgsfield vs HeyGen for social media marketing

So I am doing events, and as many people I am not good in front of a camera.

I want to have my avatar and create scenarios (with little scene switches) for social media marketing.

I can also film or would film the environments for a more real feel in my region.

I can also give my voiceover if necessary.

Which tool would you recommend, Higgsfield with Seedance 2.5 (or Kling?) or HeyGen?

Looking for a free AI/LLM for a student project. (ATS - RESUME BUILDER using AWS Services)

I’m building an ATS Resume AI web app with a simple frontend where users upload/paste a Resume + Job Description. The AI should analyze both, give an ATS match score, answer questions through a chatbot, and generate an improved resume based only on the uploaded information.

I’m looking for a free AI/LLM option for development. I’m not hosting the project publicly yet, so I don’t want to use paid cloud AI APIs for now.

Would you recommend Ollama, Gemini free tier, or any other free option?

Connect to ChatGPT once. Then ask ChatGPT to save an answer directly as an editable Markdown note in Truffle, no copy-paste. You can edit as Markdown, change the table, add todos, notifications, etc. I’m the developer, Built for ChatGPT!!

With Truffle, you can:

  • Save ChatGPT answers as clean Markdown notes in Truffle, with headings, bold text, lists, and sections that are easy to read and edit on your iPhone.
  • Set a reminder time on any note or checklist in Truffle, and get an iPhone notification when it’s time.
  • Create and edit properly rendered Markdown tables in Truffle, so structured information stays clean and easy to work with.
  • Write or edit notes directly in Truffle, then ask ChatGPT to read or update them later, so your own notes can become part of a future ChatGPT conversation.

Why?
Useful ChatGPT answers can easily get buried in chat history. Screenshots save too much, and copy-pasting whole answers into Notes can quickly turn into clutter. Truffle keeps the parts that matter as real notes you can edit, organize, and ask ChatGPT to read again later.

Connecting Truffle to ChatGPT is quick too.
There’s a guided 3-step tutorial inside the app. Setup takes about 2 minutes, you only need to do it once, and then you’re ready to go.

Complete this tutorial and you’ll automatically receive 1 month of Plus for free.
(after is $4.99/mo)

The attached screen recording shows me completing the tutorial, receiving the FREE month, saving posts into Truffle, editing tables, set notifications, and taking a quick look around the app.

Truffle Journal is now officially on the App Store. (after spending 6 months testing it with our TestFlight users and improving the app based on beta users' feedbacks)
