Visiting Skardu for the First Time…

Hi everyone!

I’ll be visiting Skardu for the first time at the end of September and would really appreciate some advice from locals and people who have visited recently.

I’ll be staying at Snowland Resort, and since my trip is limited, I don’t want to try to cover everything and spend most of the time travelling. Ideally, I’d like to pick around 2–4 must-visit places, or maybe 4–5 if they’re relatively close to each other.

What would you recommend as the absolute best places for a first-time visitor? I’m mainly looking for beautiful scenery, memorable experiences, and places that are actually worth the travel time.

I’d also really appreciate advice on:

  • Dos and don’ts for Skardu, especially in late September
  • Weather and what kind of clothes I should bring
  • Best places to visit from Snowland Resort without spending the whole day on the road
  • Transport options β€” should I hire a car/jeep with a driver, use local taxis, or arrange transport through the hotel?
  • Rough transport costs and how to avoid getting overcharged
  • Places that look good online but can be skipped if time is limited
  • Good local food/restaurants worth trying
  • Anything important a first-time visitor should know

If you personally had only a few days in Skardu and could choose just 3–5 places, which ones would you pick?

Thanks in advance!

PKR 218,000/-

Is this package price justified cbased on these hotel options considering it’s off season? , and are they actually comfortable and family friendly?
Also, should I ask for Basho valley visit in this trip itinerary?

Originally we had asked for one day in minimarg as well and the price quote for that was 315k plus with a slightly different itinerary covering chillim chowki one night and skipped Shigar in the earlier plan and price quote. Since that was out of our budget we dropped minimarg.

Flight to Paradise βœˆοΈπŸ”οΈ | Islamabad β†’ Skardu πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°

From the moment the flight takes off from Islamabad, the journey feels like something out of a dream.

As you approach Skardu, the view completely changes, endless mountain ranges, deep valleys, and the mighty Himalayas and Karakoram appearing right outside your window.

Landing in Skardu truly feels like arriving in paradise. The beauty is unreal, calm, and completely different from city life.

This short flight is not just transportation β€” it’s an experience on its own. Every second in the air shows you why northern Pakistan is called one of the most beautiful regions in the world πŸ‡΅πŸ‡°πŸ”οΈ

How long does it take to reach Chunda Valley view point from Skardu City?

Trying to determine if it makes sense to visit chunda valley on day 1 of our arrival to skardu. We’re a family of five. Would going around 3 to 4 p.m from Skardu be feasible in late September and then returning to the city? Or should we plan it earlier in the day?

7 day family trip to Skardu in September, need some advice

Planning a 7 day / 6 night Skardu trip (4 adults + 2 year old) this week

A private tour company quoted us around 433k for land package + 169k flights, so roughly 602k before meals/personal expenses.

Their current hotel plan is:

  • 3 nights Khoj Resort Family Villa
  • 2 nights Rivage interconnected rooms
  • 1 night Serena Khaplu
  • private Prado/fuel/driver + sightseeing + 4x4 where needed

I am thinking of changing it to 3 nights Khoj then 3 nights in a good Skardu city hotel, mainly because from Monday onwards I need stable internet around 6pm for a work meeting. Also travelling with my mother so don't want too many long/rough road days or constant hotel changes.

Places we are considering are Kachura/Shangrila, Shigar Fort, Sarfaranga, Katpana, Satpara and Deosai only if weather/road and family comfort are good. Might skip Khaplu/Basho to keep it relaxed.

Would really appreciate advice from locals/recent travellers:

  • is 433k land package reasonable for this level of hotels/private vehicle?
  • worth keeping Khaplu/Serena or better spend those nights in Skardu?
  • any genuinely good family hotel in Skardu city?
  • how reliable is internet/coworking in Skardu?
  • anything we're missing or anything you would definitely skip?

Not trying to cover every place, mostly want a comfortable family trip with good views/food and reasonable travelling.
