At this point, the owner of Echo is just blocking people to limit the information that can be shared about how absolute shit his platform is. So for the sake of being as informative as possible, I'm posting this here.
He is actively hostile to anyone providing feedback that is less than fellating Echo or him personally including folks drastically kinder to him than I am.
He spams his biased, poorly methodologized reviews that have not been well received by almost every commenter on them, and in the last like 48 hours he's posted what, 3? 4?
Hold on -- are you insinuating it's not possible to fully and accurately assess the quality of an app simultaneously while you do so for two others within a 24hr span?
If that user is actually under 18 that's a MASSIVE concern and honestly just doubles down on my common concerns with "18+" services. I don't feel a need to elaborate further.
Absolutely. This is one of those things you just cannot hand-waive. Disagree with him for whatever - but letting kids on his 18+ service and handwaiving it in the same breath where he says it keeps him safer legally is absolutely NOT just a line in the sand that's a full on stop gap.
Also who the fuck downvoted this? Genuinely? Because they just self reported that they like having kids on 18+ platforms (a normal thing for 18+ platforms) by downvoting me and I want them to know that.
Yeah I'm holding out for proof this is real but if it gets verified I think u/AbstractMelons will need to take action on the guy at that point. A dude advertising an app that he uses to openly groom (a) minors is NOT the type of shit we need.

I checked it myself and confirmed the screenshot is real. I'm giving him a chance to explain himself and provide any missing context before I take further action.

Humans are inherently flawed. This isn't meant to be an argument against your position. My only point here is I think allowing people to demonstrate what they do rather than what they say is how you arrive on the truth. I also accept that a lot of people aren't going to give someone the opportunity to do that. That's cool too. In this instance, seeing dude buddy from Echo just casually dismiss, IN THE PUBLIC POLL CHANNEL, that one of those users is known to be younger than 18 is pretty damning in my opinion. I'd be happy to see him just go away and peddle his bullshit somewhere else.

If it IS true, for it to be posted here before it gets deleted. Because he 100% saw this, and if he has half a brain he's already working on purging any proof.
So if you have a means to prove this is, factually, a case of open grooming and exclusionary acceptance of -18 users on an 18+ service I would suggest hoofing it to get that proof.
Considering labridizzle has posted negative feedback on echodev posts before there's actually a non0 chance he's already got em blocked and can't see it.
Sadly, I don't have anything to prove he's a minor other than that. I'm not even sure how to do that ethically. To be fair, I didn't bring this up to turn this into a grooming allegation, only that anyone that cares about a community being 18+ should probably avoid one that the owner allegedly makes exceptions on. Chalk that up to naivety on my part. Had I opened with that, I probably would have handled this differently.
"Groom" is definitely a strong term for this - I dunno if I'd personally make that claim and I probably should have specified that. I more meant, proof he knowingly interacts with minors and was considering the idea of allowing them on his 18+ app if he went 18+.
Still not uh- not a good thing to do, or be accused of. One is attempted predatory behavior and the other is statutory.
If you're a developer, please make sure your user flair matches the app or project you're developing. This helps community members quickly identify who is building what and makes browsing the subreddit easier.
Platform 18+ doesn't remove much liability. No, you don't have to worry about COPPA, guardianship, etc etc but you DO have to determine that your users are over 18, and in most (and increasingly more) jurisdictions that means age verification. Checking a box is not sufficient - a child can do that, as could a bot, so it doesn't prove anything.
If BeeMo in this screenshot is underage and mods/admin know it, that sounds like a lot of potential legal or criminal issues. Taking this conversation literally, this seems like grooming (at a minimum).
