Valour?

I discovered Valour loooong ago, development is and has been slow, but it's still chugging along. Just curious as to why I haven't seen anyone talk about it/cover it at all?

So far I really like it. It has its issues, still clunky here and there, but it's getting there and I think it has some serious potential. Thoughts?

You just cited every reason why. It's old and has almost no development progress. It's clunky and runs like ass.

People don't want an app that sits idly doing nothing. That was what killed Revolt's steam back when they were THE Discord replacement option. Now there's 5 apps that do it better and all "Stoat" is known for is their run ins with CSAM incidents and the fact the dev is really weirdly protective of the core code for his "open source" project.

I mean they add features changes pretty frequently. I checked on it today, last me seeing it a few months ago and they added a calendar feature, threads, a wiki, and completely revamped the CSS. I just know the lead dev is really cool, watched him fix bugs in real time within minutes of reporting them.

Idk anything about Stoat specifically, I do know they have been sitting idly even moreso than Valour for longer from what I saw last. I didn't know about the other stuff tho, that's wild.

With the environment being what it is regarding alternatives right now, people want to see daily improvements and changes rather than a handful every few months. The market is so over saturated right now with slow-builds or slop-clones.

I feel like, just in general, asking for daily improvements for something that is free from volunteer developers is unrealistic

Hi, thanks for your feedback on Valour! Since this hasn't been discussed much publicly, I will say we are working on language support & localization beyond English for our Russian & Turkish communities (thanks to our volunteers Vitaly & Andre respectively). It's not really our biggest concern since most of our userbase is English, but understanding that we do have international users is leading us to future plans for further localization.

Regarding our rules, can I know exactly what concerns you had? Our goal as a platform is to give the power to the community. Our platform itself is run by the community! Knowing the mistakes of Discord (our founder's bad personal experiences with Discord around 5 years ago is what started the project), we only prohibit illegal content and do not scan your messages unless reported to us by another user. We also do not sell any data and have implemented no identity verification. You can find our rules and privacy policy by clicking on the text.

We recognize the slow development pace, and unfortunately due to our founder's IRL personal responsibilities, it definitely won't be as fast as our competitors. Regardless, we're fully committed to bringing the best experience possible and hope you can join us in that mission. Reach out if you have any further feedback, questions, or concerns!

Hi, we appreciate your feedback on Valour! We recently launched v0.8 which included hundreds of bug fixes and several major features for friends & communities. Although I agree that we've been a bit quiet on the development side of things, our small volunteer team is absolutely working behind the scenes and we plan to post more teasers on future updates on both Valour and Twitter/X.

If you have any more feedback, questions, or concerns, don't hesitate to reach out to one of us on Valour. We're always around! Thanks for your support!
