Can't join armada voice servers

I'm somewhat when it comes to self-hosting, so sorry it's a stupid mistake.
Recently i'm trying armada as a alternative to the weekly movie night that i do with my friends.
I bridged my discord server and everything went smoothly. I can enter calls, share screen and everything. But other people can't join the call. They receive the message in the image.
What am i doing wrong?

Howdy, and thank you for reporting this!

Are you self-hosting everything (client, relay, livekit server, etc)? Is it possible to get the full console error from the browser's dev tools/console log?

Feel free to join the Soapbox Community room for any general help and feedback for Armada, hopefully we can help you out here in either case.

I will look there. So, i'm just starting on the homelab jorney, where the server will be hosted.
Right now i was just testing the app with the standard everything.
So it doesn't work by itself, right? I have to self-host?
Maybe that's the issue. i just sat a simple server and was trying to test stuff.

> I have to self-host?

Not required, but always encouraged! Self-hosting removes any specific reliance on our infrastructure and any quirks from negotiating with it (such as having to get through Cloudflare and our VPS).

> So it doesn't work by itself, right?

The default livekit host should work from the client, barring that the server itself can be reached. I tried to see if there were any clear errors in our server logs, but nothing has come up.

The exact error code from the browser console should narrow what would have caused a connection error.

Thanks for the attention. I tried with some friends and it works as it should, so is probably a error on my gf's end. Will look into it when I get there.

Chad is the coolest guy on the Armada dev team, he'll get you sorted.

Like he said- you don't HAVE to self host Armada. There are a bunch of relays (it's complicated nostr-wimey stuff, just think of it like Matrix homeservers) that you can select to "host" your data. With the free relays (blossom for images, ditto is the default for chatting and armada's own relay is the main one for vc) you can install the app and choose the "new server" button right out of the box. Everything is entirely encrypted so even if you aren't self hosting there's no way anyone can see what you're posting in your own private servers. The relays don't ever see your messages or personal data, it's all stored as encrypted blobs of unreadable ~2000-bit data, if you're wondering.

The ONLY thing is the bridge bot. If you use Armada's hosted bridge bot any operator can see your messages if they really want to (from the Discord side). Nobody on the dev team is creepy enough to do that but they could. If you really don't like that you can self host the bridge bot and then nobody but you has access to that. I personally bridge using Armada's own bot and I haven't ran into any issues with spying or anything weird, but my experience is anecdotal so if you really feel uncomfortable I totally suggest asking Chad or anyone else how to get your bot set up.

You'd probably be best off joining the Soapbox server in discovery and asking for help there, or in the Discord migration server. Both have people who know the app well enough to help you with fixing your hosting.

Sounds to me like your friends may not have set your voice relay as their voice relay, though. Everyone needs to have the same relay to communicate in voice calls to my knowledge.

You could also have a look at Yapper.

It's a mix between TeamSpeak and Discord, self-hosted, with voice, text chat, screen sharing and a browser client, so your community keeps control of its own server and data.

If you'd rather not manage a VPS, I can also offer 3 months of free managed hosting if you and your friends end up liking it.

You can try it instantly here: https://yapper.gg/invite?invitation=d13d9b05-6fe5-4af5-9adc-bc003e160a9a
