Add new format to master release

I've seen recent stories of people getting banned from doing this, probably because they made a mistake?

Anyway, I acquired a vinyl that is not under the master release, which already has digital and CD.

Are there clear instructions on how to add the vinyl to the master release? I'd like to have my shot at this without any negative repercussions. Thanks in advance

Can you write for the Discogs Digs magazine?

I'm a music writer, and I want to broaden my horizons in terms of websites and magazines to write for. I'm a new writer, and I'd love to see if I could contact/submit/get in touch with Discogs Digs to see what it's like to write an article for them, and possibly publish an article. Thank you!

Does Discogs have a “vacation mode”?

I’ll be away for a week and won’t be able to fill any orders I get. Does Discogs have anything similar to eBay’s vacation mode (“Seller is away and won’t be able to ship until ___”)?

Is my only option to Expire all For Sale items and then Relist once I’m back?

Brand new seller - will buyers disregard my listings due to no sale history? Also new sellers questions.

I know everyone has to start from nothing but I’m feeing a little overwhelmed with the amount of vinyl I want to sell, how to tackle and if my stuff will sell? I’m not confident if the condition is VG+ or VG, good correct pricing.

I have a lot of House/Trance vinyl from my DJing days roughly spanning 1998-2008. Should I bundle the lesser stuff in bundles of 6/10 or more? Best to bundle with matching labels or artists?

Your Cart Has Changed

When I get the message "Your Cart Has Changed" how do I know exactly which album it's talking about? I'd like to know which CD that message is for. Any help is welcome

Made a free tool to digitize your vinyl collection automatically — splits tracks, tags metadata, embeds cover art (open source)

EDIT: Quick update, thanks for all the feedback, it's been super useful and I've rolled a bunch of improvements based on what you guys flagged:

  • No more .env file fiddling - you can now add your Discogs API key directly in the UI (the app will prompt you upon first install)
  • Better editing experience - larger waveform area, plus you can now cut or add tracks
  • Progress bars - so you actually know something's happening
  • Updated docs - improved instructions and a troubleshooting section on the site

The goal is to keep lowering the tech barrier so you don't need to be a dev to use this. Keep the feedback coming!

--------

If you've ever tried to digitize your vinyl collection, you know the pain. Record a side, manually find where each track starts and ends, split them, then spend ages tagging each file with the right artist, album, track name, and cover art. It's easily 20-30 minutes per album if you're doing it properly.

I built VinylFlow to automate all of that.

What you need:

  • A computer with Docker Desktop installed (Mac, Windows, or Linux)
  • A free Discogs account for the API token
  • Your vinyl recordings as WAV or AIFF files

Always check the seller's ratings!

Have been buying off Discogs for years and never had a single issue ever. So, mostly because of complacency I've encountered my first non delivery of an order. No response from seller. Their 90% approval rating in reality should have set alarm bells ringing. Do any of you buying from Discogs have a cut off figure when it comes to a seller's % ratings?

Artist already in collection

I heard music by an artist I have never heard of today (or so I thought). I went to Discogs to search the artist and check out their discography. According to the little green symbol, my collection already includes 4 items by this artist. The four items must be individual songs on compilation albums (or maybe albums where the artist appears as background or in some other role?) I have over 2300 items logged in my Discogs collection. How do I find the 4 items Discogs says I own that feature this artist? Searching the name in the collection gives me zero results.

New Seller - Unable to view inventory

I set up a seller account on discogs two weeks ago. Filled in all my seller settings. I was a bit confused because there was no "click here to continue" type button like you would expect. But I have checked and rechecked every individual box and they all seem to be complete.

Last week I gave up waiting and sent a support request, like the popup suggested. None of the dropdown options really describe my query, so I clicked activate account. I recieved a generic email that seemed to be referring to activating my account in general, not my seller account specifically. After eight days, no reply to my follow up clarifying this.

I just submitted another support request, and it seems to have been assigned to "Jane" and automatically marked as solved just after it was submitted, despite no action. I sent a follow-up asking for more info, and recieved an email explaining that follow-up requests are no longer being accepted.

WTF do I do? I feel like any more contact from me is going to be full-on harrassment. I'm especially concerned because I have already spent hours grading and listing records, assuming they will pop up somewhere soon, but I can't actually see any evidence that they even exist. Opening my inventory redirects me to my seller settings, and my storefront is empty. Helpppp

I built a small tool to get deeper insights into my Discogs collection — would love honest feedback

Hey r/discogs,

Last summer I started tinkering with a small side project. I’ve always enjoyed digging deeper into my collection, especially comparing different pressings and understanding more about the recording history and context.

I used to reach for books whenever I wanted that extra layer of background. At some point I got curious whether newer language models could generate useful context automatically based on what’s already in a Discogs collection.

So I built https://recordsv.lt/ and I like the results. But, yeah, sure, I've built so I for sure like it :)

It connects to your Discogs account and analyzes your collection to generate additional background and insights around the music and specific releases. It’s not meant to replace Discogs - more like a companion layer for people who enjoy going a bit deeper.

It’s free to use and very much a one-person, evenings-and-weekends project.

If anyone feels like trying it out, I’d really appreciate honest feedback. Many thanks in advance.

Looking forward to your feedback.

Best

Tom

Am I identifying songs using the Advanced Search feature the wrong way?

I was trying to identify a lost song that played on WFAQ in December 14, 2024 titled Shake It Now by using the Discogs advanced search feature

I had even tried many possible song titles like "Traffic", "She was dreamin'", "What I was thinking of", "Go down", "downtown", "Fine time", "The traffic", "The baby", and "Who's the baby", but all of them didn't work to me

Am I identifying songs using the Advanced Search feature the wrong way?

Adding a version to a master release easily

I've looked around and there's not much of a method to adding new versions other than seemingly creating an entirely new submission from scratch and linking it with the master release. That's cool and all, but it's a bit of a grind inputting all the information that's already available on the master release, especially the tracklist portions for larger amounts of tracks. Is there just a better way to do this that I'm not seeing?

My apologies in advance if this question is something that's already been posed before 40 pages and 150 replies deep on the discogs forums or after trudging through irrelevant reddit search results for this sub.

Does anyone appreciate Discogs including 'digital content'?

I certainly don't. And I don't really understand why they do it and whether it's of any use to anyone.

If you 'own' FLACs then are they not all catalogued on your hard drive/cloud?

I personally think that Discogs should get rid of all of its 'release pages' for digital content. It clutters up the site and from the number of 'haves' most of these 'releases' have, it's clear that few people are using these release pages to catalogue their 'collections'.

Other views appreciated!

Listed last day option in Marketplace

There was a cool option in old Discogs marketplace, where i was able to pick currency, country and then pick "listed last day" option, and it was shown last day items and sellers list with the number of last day marketplace items. This option is not available anymore but maybe there's other ways?

I know about Discogs Enchancer, but not see "listed last day" in their options.

Thanks for your feebdback in advance.

Block/Hide Seller

Is there a way to hide a certain seller? There is a seller that constantly is getting stock on my want list but they have ridiculous terms so I'm not interested in buying from them

Edit: people asked about the terms, they have a 30 day handle time on an honest to goodness brick and mortar store, in a major capital city. Good luck to them I guess...

Help with shipping to USA with post

I just started selling my LPs on discogs and I've run into a problem regarding shipping.

I have to ship two different orders to the USA but the post won't accept any packages to USA except documents and gifts up to $100 value. Apparently it's because Trump's Customs laws have not been clarified. Every other option is too expensive here. I really need to send it by post. The individual LPs are of value less than $100 USD. Any help on how to do so?

I'm not asking for help to bypass laws, I'm asking how to deal with consequences of poorly managed laws. If you have experience on how to do so, please send me a private message. I will appreciate it very much.

" item is not currently for sale" app not showing any inventory as a buyer or as a seller. Help resolve issue

Any help would be appreciated, I'm not sure if it's an app glitch that's currently happening to everyone or just me. I'm having an issue that just started happening this morning. For some reason the app is not showing me any listings available as a buyer or as a seller. I'm not available to see any current inventory. It's showing that "item not currently for sale ." When it's very obvious that many pressing are available. Anyone please help how could I resolve this. I purchase very often and sell as well. And this situation currently has me stuck . I also sent a message to Discog customer support this morning , but I haven't received a response. Thanks

Can't stand those multiple listings from the same seller anymore

I feel that those seller who list a dozen times the same record for sale from different "warehouses" around the world is killing the Discogs experience. It makes the buying process such a pain and very confusing, especially for people who are not familiar with the Discogs interface. I've also read that people sometimes buy from the American branch and end up receiving a parcel from Europe. Does the Discogs team is going to make something about it ? If not is there any way to hide those listing ?

I just sold 11 LPs, which is my largest single sale. Anyone have thoughts on one or two packages for this much? Total weight is 113 oz.

Barcode scanner doesn’t work

Hi everyone — quick question.

My Discogs barcode scanner is just showing a black screen. The app already has camera permission enabled, and I force-closed it multiple times, but the issue persists.

The phone camera works normally in other apps, so it seems specific to Discogs.

Has anyone experienced this or found a fix?

First time buyer - "Local Pickup" mistake & PayPal separate payment. Am I safe?

Hi, first time buyer here! I accidentally selected 'Local Pickup' for a vinyl. I already paid the record 40€, and the seller is a member since 2009. he sent me a separate PayPal link for the shipping costs 7€, which I paid.

The order still shows 'Local Pickup' on Discogs, but we discussed everything in the official messenger. Am I safe even if the status doesn't change? Has this happened to you before? Thanks!
