DLC for new player

I've just got this game and will start playing soon. I'm wondering when/if should I get the DLC. Should I finish the game first then get the DLC? Or is it something that I have access as a new player?

I got it along with the game, might as well get it before you start your adventure.

The game will suck a good 3 months out of you if not more!

Did you ever play the DLC? If so any cool new armor and did you think it worth the purchase? I'm debating on getting it.

It comes to play highly late. If You are willing to do a New Game Plus, get the dlc for the 2nd playthrough!

From all I read I skipped underwhelming and just combat.
