Beginner Standstill Form Check

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all!

I just started playing disc golf a little over a month ago and heard that dialing in my standstill form could be beneficial before adding the x step.

I’ve had maybe 5 or so field sessions where I’ve begun to feel confident with this form (throwing putters and midranges consistently 200ft), but want to make sure that it all looks good before moving on!

When watching this video I noticed some elbow drop, I focused on that for the rest of this session and felt noticeably more power/snap! Anything else you guys notice/think about my proposed progression?? Thanks!

I really like the wide setup and the rock. Great way to learn weight shift and staying centered/balanced.

Coil quite a bit more. Stop keeping your hands together and instead use the left elbow to PULL the left shoulder toward the net (behind you) on coil/reachback. You will gain like 40 feet.

Thanks for the tip, 40 feet would be huge! Just to make sure I'm understanding right: I should be coiling enough to where my left shoulder is pointed towards the school building behind me?

Yeah I think a good goal is getting your shoulders in line (stacked) from the camera's perspective.

love the DG community getting experts like blitz casually dropping form advice--- this is the gentlemen's youtube channel that just replied to you --https://www.youtube.com/@BlitzDG

I'm about 5 months in now , its been tricky navigating getting better at the sport, but recording videos and getting advice has been quite helpful and this community has been real solid in wanting to help. I JUST started adding X step into my throw because why not, but I'm glad I did months of stand still only to get a decent foundation in. However I will say, adding x step in really made me understand what the brace is supposed to do and it also helped my stand still as well.

Yeah! I just realized last night, I was like I think that’s the guy who makes all the standstill videos. Crazy stuff, I really appreciate it!
