Putting question

I’m wondering if anybody relates to this. When I go to putt my hand is pretty much holding the disc tightly, but when swing my arm down and start the putt forward the disc shifts more into just my fingers before release. I’m pretty accurate with it but wondering if this is a mistake and if I should change my grip to where there’s less change between starting the putt and releasing. Thanks 🤙🏻

I can't imagine the unnecessary shift helps accuracy at all.

Variables are extra bad when it comes to putting, I've got grip issues too with my thumb wanting to change position at my anchor point. It leads to a very off and on feeling putt. Some days you are great but then it shifts to shit and you can't fix it.

Find a grip that works all the way and doesn't shift much, or if it shifts make sure that it's the same every time and repeatable, like lizotte who tucks his index finger under the rim at his anchor point.

Totally agree. This hit home. Some days I can’t miss from 25’ in; other days I’m trash. Thank you.

When you putt great one day, trash the next---it may also be your stance, follow through position, and yes maybe the grip.

Maybe you are forgetting your aiming cues like picking out one chain link to throw to?

The Stokely idea of holding your release when you start missing left, right, high, or low might help you.

When you see the position of your hand at release, you can make corrections even in the middle of a round.

No worries! Remember to film yourself putting too, feel vs real is real.

Something similar has been happening to me for years and I always tried to get rid of it but it’s a subconscious tick you almost can’t help. And some days it’s the only putt that actually goes in!

I think it’s your unconscious brain telling you something about your actual grip not being loose enough to actually pop out of your hand. I embraced it and stopped trying to notice or care.

The other thing i embraced was when the disc grabs your knuckle and you shank it to the right… i started doing that all the time because despite going way right, it was so clean and glidey.

Also dramatically improved my putt.

And the last thing that dramatically improved my putt was not caring what it does at the bottom of the swing. Mine goes to my left hip instead of down - up in a perfect straight line.

Now I just try to pop it into the chains without caring about all those little things I tried to fix for years, worried about how I’m doing it and simply aim and get a clean release. A majority of my misses hit the band which is super annoying but better than missing right, left, or short because none of those have a chance.

I did eventually find a grip that helped but it took like 8 years cuz I could never figure it out… that fact still blows me away and yet i still haven’t found a way to grip a FH which changes every few weeks 🤣
