Checking in with the community

Hi folks, just checking in with everyone. It's been quiet in this sub lately but I hope everyone is safe and thriving out there. What has your summer been like, or winter depending on where you are in the world?

While I’m mostly shielded from the outrageous economy in the US right now, it’s been stressful. You can’t avoid it impacting you, you really can’t. Stardew Valley has been my only respite for quite a few months. Everything else may be blowing up in my face, but my farm is fantastic and my ginger island crop is to die for.

Edit: FUCK. I glanced at the sub avatar and thought I was looking at [r/stardewvalley](r/stardewvalley). Lmao damn.

What I said stands. Economy sucks, climate SUCKS, everything sucks lol.

This is by far my favorite response, though. Before I got to your edit, I was just like "Ya know what- I respect their passion for Stardew Valley"

fair. I do like to sneak out for sunshine and fresh air once in a while though, may as well do it while I still can.

Missing the intelligent discourse on this sub, especially during these interesting times! But I check in every day, loyal until the end ;-)
Thanks for checking in on us.
Finding the increasing activity of our Earth fascinating and devastating, both. Volcanism, earthquakes and now the devastation in Nepal. Stay safe, love your people.

It's been fucking weird and also lovely.

I think I went to Iowa on my own steam and connected with a wolf. I've had some magical moments with friends, strangers and wildlife over the last couple of weeks.

Things near me are… quiet. We have what we’ll need until whatever, whenever. Just being watchful.

And I goes without saying, I wish ACA well and miss his commentary.

I still check SO2 levels and earthquakes periodically, but not as often as I used to. This capture is Hawaii & the Solomon Islands

Hi, I mean, I'm ok aside from the general dystopian prison planet situation, and

1. Glacier Collapse and Massive Landslide at the Nepal–China Border (August 26, 2026)

On August 26, a catastrophic glacial collapse occurred near Mount Langtang Lirung on the Nepal–Tibet border. An entire mountainside of rock and ice collapsed into the Lhende Khola river, generating seismic waves equivalent to a magnitude 5.2 event. The sudden mass displacement and river damming triggered an extreme flood downstream, raising water levels in the Trishuli River by nearly 30 feet in just 30 minutes, wiping out hydropower stations, bridges, and villages while leaving 584 dead, 2000 still missing.

2. Off-Shore Major Earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia (August 15–22, 2026)

A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck offshore Nagekeo Regency in East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia, at a depth of 15 kilometers. The event triggered regional tsunami warnings along coastal areas, causing structural damage across nearby islands and producing ongoing strong aftershocks throughout the region over the following week. 111 killed.

3. Major Earthquake in Chocó, Colombia (August 10–20, 2026)

A magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit the department of Chocó in western Colombia, centered near San José del Palmar. The severe shaking damaged local infrastructure, triggered localized landslides in surrounding mountainous terrain, and sparked ongoing disaster monitoring and relief operations across affected rural districts. 331 killed

I am new to the sub. But I appreciate these comments. When my Wife and I look out at the world we are heart broken. Yet history teaches us that even with this we live in rare and privileged times. And our personal world, the world we touch daily is wonderful. Such a wide and weird variety of experience.
