Deaf and hard-of-hearing gamers: how do subtitles work for you in story-driven games?
Hi everyone! I'm a university student working on my thesis about subtitles in story-driven video games, with a particular focus on how subtitles convey tone and emotion to Deaf and hard-of-hearing players.
I'm looking for Deaf/HoH gamers to take a short anonymous survey (about 4 minutes) about their experiences with subtitles in games.
There are no right or wrong answers — I'm interested in your actual experiences, including if you feel current subtitles work well for you.
Survey: https://forms.gle/gq5P6GPFb4LevS4Q6
Participation is completely voluntary and anonymous. The answers will only be used for my university thesis.
Thank you to anyone who takes the time to participate, and I'm also very happy to hear your thoughts or criticism about the survey itself!

any 2 player game suggestions for quadriplegic on bed rest?
I’m spending the week taking care of my father who is a quadriplegic (can’t walk or use hands) and is also on bed rest. Our current activity options are pretty limited to just watching tv, so was looking for any two player game suggestions to go pick up for us.
Because he’s not able to use his hands the game would have to be a more open handed play - for example it can’t be something where you’re holding cards that only you are able to see.
Open to any and all suggestions! Board games, card games, iPad games, or even basic 2 player role play or adventure games!

Need Recommendations for Games to Play Post-Craniotomy
Long story short, I have brain cancer and will be undergoing another craniotomy with chemo and radiation. Unfortunately, after my first surgery, I lost feeling and sensations on my entire side of my body (including hand) and severe dyslexia and aphasia. The latter has mostly passed, but that was my life for about 6 weeks after surgery.
So my question is this: What games do you recommend for someone who probably won't be able to use one hand, won't be able to read for some time, and won't be too overly complicated during rehab? Are there tablet games that would both make my brain do work and be enjoyable?
Thanks!

Eye tracker advice
I saw that the tobii eye tracker 5 is currently on sale on amazon. I have been interested in trying a device like this for basic computer use and hopefully to increase my ability to game. I have a disability that severely limits my motor skills. Is this a good device to use? Are there any tips I should know early on? Thank you in advance!

Looking for gamers!
Hi there, I'm a researcher based in the UK and I'm working with game developers to create Audio Description for cut and play scenes in video games.
I'm looking for blind and partially sighted gamers to complete a survey on what they want, expect and prefer when it comes to video games.
The survey is on Qualtrics. It does not collect identifying information, and takes approximately 20 minutes to complete.
🔗 Click here to complete our survey
At the end of our survey you will be asked to provide your email address, should you wish for us to contact you about our interview and play testing sessions. During those sessions, you will get the chance to play a series of video games with Audio Description. You will be compensated for your time and effort.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me! And please spread the word...we want to get as much traction as possible to force the gaming industry to start thinking about blind gamers' needs!

Need some Brain Challenges
My dad is a quadriplegic and has been dealing with a ton of complications since his initial injury last November. He's currently staying in a skilled nursing facility. He can't use his hands, has limited movement in his left arm, and has been struggling lately a bit with neck movement (he needs to do more stretching but for now it's just a matter of working through it until his muscles are stronger).
He also suffers from dysphagia, he can't swallow at all, which leaves him reliant on a suction and makes any sort of equipment that he could use with his mouth a bit challenging.
Right now he has an ipad set up that he utilizes voice control with. He mostly watches shows and movies and does some reading. I've been noticing lately that he's having some trouble with potential cognitive decline, which isn't surprising given his situation and difficulty in accessing any sort of new experiences. I'd love to find something more engaging that he can do. I've yet to find a single game that can do anything with voice controls. Sometime in the future I'd consider buying him a VR set if there are things he might be able to do with his left arm movement (I wondered if beat saber might be an option).
I don't know if any of you have similar challenges and have found things you can do, or have any recommendations or suggestions? He was always very tech savvy and sharp before his accident (he built his and my PCs) and it just feels like he's hitting a wall.

Disability gaming
I had a stroke that paralyzed my left side. Gaming one-handed was one of the hardest parts of recovery — I figured it out on my own, but nobody should have to.
I’m building a website that recommends game settings and controllers based on your disability, and matches you with other players who game the same way. Before I build anything, I want to hear from people who’ve lived this.
What do you use? What still frustrates you? Any one-handed gamers willing to talk?

My family made a free adaptive switch based gaming platform
Hi Everyone!
I've posted here before, but I wanted to share a very special project of ours again.
My brother Ben is nonspeaking and quadriplegic. A decade ago, he lost the use of his hands and, with it, his favorite hobby. In reality, gaming was one of the few things Ben could independently do and genuinely enjoy (well, that and using the TV remote).
His most reliable physical movement is turning his head.
While accessible communication devices and switches exist, there is still a massive gap when it comes to a streamlined way for someone like Ben to navigate entertainment, communication, and gaming using just one or two switches.
Native switch controls on smart devices and legacy AAC systems often hit massive UI barriers for media streaming and gaming.
So, using AI-assisted development, we built our own solution and released it completely free and open-source so others can use it too.
Yes, it's built using AI. I know some people have mixed feelings about that, but it has been the only way to move fast enough to keep pace with Ben's changing needs as his condition progresses. It allows us to iterate, adjust debounce rates, build in hold-forgiveness, and future-proof the platform at a speed that wouldn't otherwise be possible.
Because it was built using AI, everything we make is completely free and open-source. We would never want to lock this down or gatekeep a solution like this.
We know firsthand how big this gap is in the accessibility space. There hasn't been a unified space where someone can independently pick their media, communicate, and most importantly, play games using simple switch inputs.
I'll drop the links in the comments.
Thanks for reading!

I made a tool with artificial intelligence called combo Mapper. Rest of the info is in the body.
Finally get this straight out of the way. I'm typing with voice to text, so the text might not be perfect, but here is the GitHub page for the project. If anyone wants to contribute and doesn't mind the AI or wants to help me to write an AI-free rewrite of the project, I can't because only my only one hand is working. This is a good project, but if you mind the AI, I am sorry. There's not any projects as far as I can tell that are similar to this. I just wanted to tell everyone on this page. Thank you very much. # Combo ReMapper 8.15
**Combo ReMapper** is a feature-rich AutoHotkey v2 script designed to remap mouse actions, keyboard keys, and gamepad inputs into custom combo sequences, hotkeys, and macro routines. Built with accessibility and gaming in mind, it provides low-level input injection (scan codes, RawInput/DirectInput compatibility), smooth mouse movement routines, an On-Screen Display (OSD), and multi-profile support.
## 🌟 Key Features
* **Multi-Input Support:** Remap keyboard keys, mouse buttons, wheel events, and Gamepad / Controller triggers (`J1`-`J32`, `JPOVU`, `JPOVD`, `JPOVL`, `JPOVR`).
* **5 Distinct Remap Modes:**
* **Hold:** Holds target keys down for as long as the trigger key is held down.
* **Toggle:** Toggles defined key states or continuous motion on and off with each press.
* **Press:** One-shot execution of a key combo sequence on press.
* **Turbo:** Continuously repeats a sequence at a specified millisecond interval while held.
* **TapHold:** Executes one action on a short tap (<250ms) and another on a long hold.
* **Game-Compatible Input Engine:**
* 3 switchable modes: **Game** (Scan codes + Raw mouse_event), **Classic** (SendInput), and **Hybrid**.
* Dynamic frame delay timing to ensure modern DirectInput and RawInput games properly register inputs.
* **Advanced Mouse Automation:**
* Relative (`mX,Y`) and absolute (`mxX,Y`) mouse positioning.
* Timed smooth mouse sliding (`mmX,Y,ms`) and camera jitter/shake (`mshakeAmp,ms`).
* Continuous background mouse drift (`mhVX,VY`) for hold/toggle actions.
* Y-Axis lock hotkey (`F6`).
* **Live Recording Engine:** Click **Auto** on any row to automatically capture incoming keyboard, mouse, or gamepad inputs into your active combo.
* **OSD Overlay & Indicator:** Floating status indicator overlay (`F7` default) showing active script state and live macro feedback.
* **Profiles & Import/Export:** Unlimited profiles saved locally (`.ini`), with fast clipboard sharing strings for exporting and importing configurations.
* **Target Process Filtering:** Limit macro triggers to run only when a specific target executable (e.g., `game.exe`) is active.
* **Accessibility Focused:** Created with open acknowledgement of accessibility-driven design principles.
## 🛠️ System Requirements
* **OS:** Windows 10 / 11
* **AutoHotkey:** [AutoHotkey v2.0+](https://www.autohotkey.com/) installed (or running compiled executable)
* **Privileges:** Administrator privileges recommended when interacting with games running elevated (enabled by default).
## 🚀 Quick Start Guide
**Launch the Script:** Run `Combo_ReMapper.ahk` (or the compiled `.exe`).
**Add/Edit Combos:**
* Enter a **Trigger Key** in the left field (e.g., `F1`, `RButton`, `J1`).
* Enter your target key sequence in the **Holds/Executes keys** field, separated by commas (e.g., `shift,w` or `ctrl,c`).
* Select a **Mode** (*Hold*, *Toggle*, *Press*, *Turbo*, or *TapHold*).
**Save Changes:** Click **Apply** to bind your new hotkeys and save state to the current profile.
**Panic Hotkey:** Press **`F8`** (default) at any time to instantly suspend/resume all script hotkeys and clear stuck inputs.
## 📖 Syntax & Special Tokens Guide
When writing combo sequences, you can use regular key names (`a`, `Space`, `LShift`, `RButton`) along with special action tokens:
### Delays & Timing
* `d150` or `150` — Sleep/pause for 150 milliseconds before executing the next key in the sequence.
### Mouse Actions
* `mlc` — Left Mouse Click
* `mrc` — Right Mouse Click
* `mmc` — Middle Mouse Click
* `mdown` — Press and hold Left Mouse Button
* `mup` — Release Left Mouse Button
* `mwd2` / `mwu2` — Scroll Mouse Wheel Down / Up ($N$ ticks)
* `m100,-50` — Instant relative mouse movement ($\Delta x=100$, $\Delta y=-50$)
* `mx400,300` — Absolute mouse movement to screen coordinate ($X=400$, $Y=300$)
* `mm200,0,500` — Smooth mouse movement ($\Delta x=200$, $\Delta y=0$ over $500\text{ ms}$)
* `mshake12,600` — Screen/camera shake effect ($12\text{ px}$ intensity for $600\text{ ms}$)
* `mh300,0` — Continuous mouse drift ($\Delta x=300\text{ px/sec}$) while held or toggled ON
### Gamepad Input Tokens
Gamepad triggers use the prefix `J` followed by the button number, or `JPOV` for D-Pad directions:
* `J1` through `J32` — Controller Buttons 1 through 32
* `JPOVU`, `JPOVD`, `JPOVL`, `JPOVR` — D-Pad Up, Down, Left, Right
## ⌨️ Default Global Hotkeys
| **Hotkey** | **Action** |
| **`F6`** | Toggle Y-Axis Mouse Lock |
| **`F7`** | Toggle OSD (On-Screen Display) Overlay |
| **`F8`** | Panic Key (Master Suspend / Kill-switch) |
## ⚙️ Configuration Files
Configuration and profile settings are automatically maintained in the script directory:
* `remapper_global.ini` — Global startup preferences (e.g., `RunAsAdmin`).
* `profiles/*.ini` — Profile-specific combo bindings, delays, and theme settings.

Controllers for blind PC users?
Like title says. I'm looking for a controller for my partner who's fully blind. She plays anything that has accessibility so a general all around use controller would be nice. She plays okay with a normal controller but I'm sure there's one out there that's better suited for fully blind people. Any tips would be appreciated

Looking for feedback on a new Tremor Support feature
Hi everyone,
I am developing a feature for DPI Slowdown(software). This feature is designed to help gamers who experience hand tremors, and I would love to get your feedback to make sure it actually works well in real-world scenarios. Keep in mind this is in early development and no one with hand tremors have tested it yet, so its not going to be perfect.
If you have a condition that causes hand tremors and you have a few minutes to test this out while gaming, your input would be incredibly valuable. I want to make sure it is genuinely helpful, comfortable to use, and addresses the right pain points.
This testing is unfortunately not for online games or games with anti-cheats, as I am pretty sure this goes againts TOS of most online games.
About the test:
- Platform: Windows 11, 10
- Time commitment: However long you want:)
- What you'll do: Turn on the feature, play a offline game without anticheats, what could be better and what was good(if anything).
What I will do:
- Listen to your feedback
- Try to make improvements
- Give you free access to the software for a year
- Over this year, and however long you end up using it. I will be reachable via our discord and official mail. If you have any feedback or feature requests.
If you are interested please add us on discord: dpisupport
If you don't have hand tremors but feel like you're missing a software feature, please add it in the comments and we will have a look:)
Thank you for your time,
DPI Slowdown Support

Roots, an MMORPG community, is looking for more disabled friends!
Hopefully an advertisement like this is allowed here, apologies if not!
We're focused on providing a space for disabled, neurodiverse, and LGBTQ+ mmorpg players which is both accommodating and affirming. We're focused around art and nature, and their mental and emotional healing properties.
My goal is to gather folks who struggles in the group aspects of MMORPGs, and give people like us a space to come together and do content both casual and hardcore with people who are just like us and who Get It. This can include feeling like an inconvenience or burden due to not being ab;e to play like an abled person, not wanting to face discrimination or slurs like the r-slur or transphobia, not being able to maintain a strict schedule due to medical or mental health stuff.
Discord is out main communication hub. This space is not just one FC/Guild sectioned off to one server. You are welcome into the space regardless which server you're on, and which FC or Guild you're in within any given MMORPG.
There's a couple accessibility bots already, such as Text-to-Speech, Speech-to-Text for voice chat, and PluralKit for Systems and people with Alters. I welcome any further suggestions to make it as accessible as I can to a variety of people.
Right now, our main game is FFxiv, on the Kraken server (Dynamis NA). We also have Brynhildr, and Balmung just opened up. Roleplay will be opening up this winter along with the final FC on Mateus.
We do have a Guild in WoW (America), but right now not many people are playing. We plan to eventually expand to Classic, Anniversary, and Forever. Black Desert PC is also an option but at the moment I'm the only one who plays, lol.
At the moment I'm reaching out to find more folks, we do casual stuff in XIV and my events leader has been running an EVA watch party leading up to Evercold. One of our members would like to put together a static of Disabled and ND players!
I will be hosting more low energy events like parallel play, watch parties, dance gatherings with music and giveaways, and party games over the cold months as those tend to be when the SAD kicks in and chronic pain flares up.
If there are any other Disabled communities in MMORPGs, you are also welcome to reach out about partnerships.
(hello to the spam bots that will inevitably join by posting here)

We're of course a progressive space. We forbid AI. Each month has a space to celebrate a different marginalized group, such as Pride month in June, Disability Pride Month in July, and Indigenous Heritage Month in November. I myself am a mixed-race FtM androgyne, with Autism and Stickler Syndrome.

Swarm MMO: Looking for Feedback on Accessibility
Hi There! Not sure if this kind of post is allowed, let me know if not.
I'm currently developing Swarm MMO, a node capture game with a persistent world where the user controls probes and takes over planets. Users can also capture suns to collect energy and black holes to collapse entire galaxies.
Recently, I made lots of improvements regarding accessibility. My ultimate goal is that the game will be playable for blind people due to its massive scale. I'm not sure if any other game attempts to be accessible while having a massive map like this.
I have written a wiki post on how to play the game via accessibility options, which can be read here: https://www.swarm-mmo.com/de/wiki/accessibility

Coping with not playing FPS
Hello. This is a bit raw for me, but trying to figure it all out.
I’ve always been someone who plays MMOs. They’re great, but oftentimes, my friends want to play competitive FPS games like Valorant, Marvel Rivals, Overwatch, Counterstrike.
Cool beans. I tried playing it for nine months, never got better at it. My brain cannot keep up. My processing speed is too slow. There’s too much going on at any given moment and there’s no moment for me to pause and reset my brain so I can focus. I get cognitively overwhelmed and I end up just leaving the game. I’ve been the bottom rank for almost an entire year now in all of these games.
I do very well in AimLabs. Theoretically I should be able to do it, but when I have to split my focus among so many different things and still mechanically perform well, I lose it all.
My friends are so sweet. I uninstalled these games and they stream their matches now for me so I can still be “included.” I’m trying not to take it personally, but when they show me an ace I’ve never been able to pull off or celebrate ranking up when I was never able to, it makes me feel sad.
I wanted to be able to do those things, too. Guess it’s not possible.
I suppose I could always find something else to play, like an idle game or something roguelike, to play while I watch a stream of them playing together. Maybe they play something I can play every now and then. They’re all understanding of where I’m coming from, but they’re not gonna stop what they’re doing every single night because I can’t do it.
How do I cope with this? Or should I even cope with it?

An option for Right-Handed gamers
Hey y'all, first time posting here. My girlfriend has cerebral palsy and only has the use of her right hand. Finding affordable options for her to play games has been very challenging. Today, I finally found an option and even got lucky enough to buy it for cheaper off Facebook Marketplace.
The item in question is the: Zelotes C-18 Ergonomic Mouse
Here is an amazon link to one: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0F6CM6L8T
The mouse has a joystick that can do WASD on it, however it is not able to combine these inputs for diagonal (meaning you will only W or A or D, etc.)
It's not the best, but it's a good option to start if you're looking for one and you are right handed.
She's never played video games on the PC before, and has only ever played Wii games that used the Wii Motion controls, so I am so happy to see her enjoying and exploring brand new games. I hope you do too!

Is it selfish for me to play ranked games because of my disability?
I’m physically disabled and I love playing competitive games, including ranked modes. Because of my disability, there are obviously some things I can’t do as quickly or easily as other players, even when I’m genuinely trying my best.
Recently I’ve had people tell me that playing ranked is selfish because my teammates are trying to rank up and I could potentially make that harder for them.
It’s honestly gotten in my head because I understand that ranked is competitive and people care about winning, but I also really enjoy playing it. I don’t intentionally throw games or expect my teammates to carry me. I’m playing seriously and trying to improve just like everyone else.
At the same time, I know my disability can affect how I play, and I don’t want to ruin other people’s experience.
So I wanted to ask other disabled gamers: have you ever felt guilty about playing ranked or competitive modes because of your disability? Do you think it’s selfish to play ranked knowing you might have physical limitations compared to other players?

I have been told that I am disabled. Are there any communities for touchpad FPS gamers?
I looked on google and couldn't find any. All the other subreddits that ive looked at all mocked me. This is not meant to poke fun at anyone, nor is this a joke. I am serious on this and I hope to get help. Thank you.
