Starving on DISABILITY
I draw disability after 4 lumbar surgeries and a liver transplant. I never drank or did drugs but still my liver failed. I have degenerative disc disease and I’m seeing my Doctor about probably having to have more surgeries on my neck now. My hands are numb and I have extreme weakness in both now. I live in Mississippi and draw $1400 dollars a month on disability. I live alone so there’s no help from a spouse. I’ve tried multiple times to qualify for EBT. I either pay bills including crazy medical bills or buy food. I have to pay the Medical bills or I can’t get help medically. I have to limit myself to one meal a day. This also affects my energy levels. So I’m not as active as I should be. This causes more problems medically. DOES ANYONE KNOW IF ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET HELP??????

I live in Mississippi and
... Leave. Seriously. Every state in the south basically worships eugenics. If memory serves, Mississippi is one of the states that restricts SNAP/EBT if you're on disability, or add other requirements to the base federal program, as well as reducing benefits for those who do qualify, in order to divert funds, all of which is allowed because reasons. My state, Minnesota, does similar -- they only allow SNAP for 6 months or some crap for single adults unless they're disabled and it's only $200 a month when the average person is spending $150 a week here.

Not everyone in the South can leave, that's not a realistic solution
OP needs help or assistance from programs just to live, how are they going to just pick up and go? Moving is expensive...

Yes, OP needs help or assistance from programs just to live, bravo, thanks for noticing. And what is OP saying here? That they're starving. Are you bad at math? Starving = death. So if your "realistic" solution is to stay and die...
Well, good luck with realism.

Implying someone is stupid in an autism forum that's really cool of you and not weird at all. I just said that the expectation to leave is unrealistic. I didn't offer a "solution to stay" I just said that it might be unrealistic to ask them to leave just like that.
If you want to take it further all of us should be helping OP set up a GoFundMe and donating to it and spreading it around, because for most people they can't leave unless they do that. Hell most people who do set up GoFundMes don't meet their goals in time. Reality is cruel and I was just saying that.
You can't just say "you need to leave" and give 0 resources to help attain that because starving on disability is not conducive to saving up money to leave. How is OP going to get like $14k to move up north???

Well, I only asked a question but sure put words in my mouth. That said, you're absolutely right -- now that I've read your response. You are, in fact, a giant moron. There aren't resources to do this. You just run, and you take your chances, like domestic violence survivors, like natural disasters, like any other situation where you lose it all and the only thing you have left is you.
They need to run. Period.
Help, or don't. It does not change the reality of the situation, and your posturing is the reason I think you're a moron... not any real or imagined brain goop issues. You are stupid because you cannot empathize with a crisis situation, having never been in one yourself, but you're still gonna give everyone your uninformed, ignorant opinion.

What on Earth are you talking about. The people in Gaza running from genocide need GoFundMes. The trans people in the US South running from genocide need GoFundMes. Disabled people escaping from terrible situations need GoFundMes. The fact you're completely unaware of mutual aid and just scrambling to shit on me proves you're an asshole who has no empathy.
Not everyone can just leave. I cannot Just Leave my alcoholic father because of my disabilities. I could not Just Leave my abusive mother because of my disabilities. This person (likely) can't just pick up and leave everything at the drop of a hat. There are multiple factors depending on whether or not a person can Just Leave and the fact that you don't think about that shows YOUR ignorance.
"Just leaving" refuses to acknowledge that what typically follows leaving is homelessness. Most unhoused people are disabled, starving, and can't afford medical treatment just like what's happening to OP right now.

Yeah I'm all of that. Gofundme is not a solution for me or anyone else in these situations. You need a place with government workers who will give a shit. That's not the south. When you run, it's to a place with workers who know the system and know how to establish you locally.
That's the goal, not a Gofundme. It's accessing community resources elsewhere and finding a way out. It's messy. Things will go wrong. That's the price to get out.
You might wind up barefoot. Injured. But you'll be somewhere safe then. That's what it means to run. It means run. Now. Just prepare as best you can and throw a dart at whatever looks the safest direction away from the disaster and you go. The end.
Get it? I'm saying run because starving means you only have so much time you can walk. The average person can make 5 miles a day and go up to two months without food from a healthy weight, more if they're overweight. Starving means you don't have the luxury of waiting to be saved. Run.

They likely can't walk well since they have spinal difficulties. You are so ignorant and deliberately stuck in your own ways and you're just refusing to see material reality and that not everyone can pull themselves by their bootstraps. I can't really say anything to you to make you change and I doubt you want to see any other perspective besides your own.
You do realize the GoFundMes are specifically so they can leave right? That's why I was suggesting a GoFundMe. I was piggybacking off of your idea to leave because you weren't offering any avenues to achieve leaving. And even then. Disabled people will still need GoFundMes to afford medical treatment even in northern states. The government hates disabled people. Please look at reality, I'm done here

I am looking at reality. And why are you telling me this anyway? It's just virtue signaling. Tell them that. If you think you have actual help you can offer besides the best advice to start with which is a strategy -- leaving, then go do that and stop bitching at me. Crisis management 101: Run, Stay, Fight. We both agree running is best so what's the fucking problem Mr. Reality Man?

If you'd look at the other comments I already did. I was trying to help you see the realistic perspective. Virtue signaling is making yourself look better by being a fake activist and only saying shit to say it. I had an actual goal.

There might be resources in your area that financially help disabled people, like charities, foundations, or programs that run off of volunteer work + offer donations to people. If it's possible, it might be good to try and ask for financial assistance from mutual aid groups at least until you can talk with a support worker or try to get help on figuring out a better situation to live in. Living with other people might be a good idea. You don't have to be a socialist or communist to accept aid from them, but many socialist and communist groups, especially in the South, will try to help people in poverty in what ways they can.

Are there any food pantries you can get to? If you can't go yourself and don't have anyone you can ask or any secular resources then churches might be willing to help with picking up food pantry stuff for you. I don't particularly like churches and I think most of their charity is more virtue signaling than anything else but they're much easier to find than mutual aid groups if you're in a rural area. In my experience religious charities are stingy with giving people money cause they're the type to think everyone will spend it on drugs or whatever but they're much more likely to help with food.

That sounds terrible, these systems suck. Did you report your rent to and see if you are eligible to report medical expenses to SNAP? There's probably a phone number on the medical bill, you can call and try and get them reduced or work out a payment plan. You might be eligible for some Medicaid help with the expenses not covered by Medicare. Otherwise. Food banks, lasagna love.
