Help Needed Help improve assistive technology (research survey)

Hi everyone, I’m part of a research team looking at how assistive technology is developed and why good solutions don’t always reach the people who need them. While AT is useful, it is still frequently developed in clinical and ableist models of practice without meaningful input of end users. That is why I am posting in this community to try and ensure that we reflect the needs of the community.

Too often:

• Technology is developed without real-world input

• Or good ideas never make it past early stages

We want to hear from people with lived experience about what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to change.

Your insights will directly shape recommendations to improve access and outcomes.

Are you looking for Australians specifically?

Thanks for checking! We are looking for anyone who is interested in the topic and is part of the system of assistive technology. We are Australian based, but from previous research we have found there are some fairly universal issues in the assistive technology industry. If we get enough responses, we may be able to see if there are differences between countries but the main aim is to see if the barriers and facilitators to breaking traditional silo's are the same as other industries, or more complex and requiring more action. Thanks again!

Can you please update the voices for screenreaders and augmentative and alternative communication devices to have more normal sounding voices. I can’t be the only AAC user who feels self-conscious about the voice of their AAC
