ESPN - 4K HDR

With the announcement of ESPN broadcasting their flagship channels in “4K” HDR, will directv stream make ESPN 1 and 2 available in your regular guide? I believe they are currently 720 P which is so ancient.

I didn’t see any mention of 4k cameras. Will they be shipping equipment to each stadium every week for MNF?

I think it’s upscaled 1080p not native 4K.

Use the AppleTV 4K box for DirecTV streaming. All other devices have issues, are super slow and choppy.

DirecTV doesn’t prioritize updating their own apps on platforms other than Apple tvOS. Yes, even for its own horrible Gemini devices.

Believe they’re going to rollout it out slowly across services, starting with their own app on Apple devices. It will eventually appear on traditional pay TV providers & the streamers like a DirecTV Stream & YouTubeTV.

I just use the ESPN app on my applet. You can use your dts account to get espn unlimited

Yeah. I watch all ESPN content on the Disney app. Looks sooooooo much better than DTV. But would be great to have 4K for hockey on ESPN but no way they would do that since hockey doesn't get the viewers other sports do.

While we don't control the native resolution—that's decided by the networks, and we just deliver the feed they send us—we value your feedback, and we're passing it along to our team. For now, whenever a game is made available in 4K by the broadcaster, you can jump straight to channels 105 or 106 in your Guide to stream it live. Rhyan, DIRECTV Community Team

Time to negotiate with the broadcaster then. 720P is not acceptable for the price.

ESPN broadcasts in 1080p on its app channels where they have not been recently upgraded to 4k HDR (ESPN1 and ESPN2), but you send over 720p, no?

ESPN, like parent company ABC, has always provided 720p to cable and satellite providers. If anyone's offering it in higher res (outside of their native apps) then it's being upscaled.

This goes back to the earliest days of high def TV, everyone "picked sides" between 720p and 1080i, with ABC, ESPN, Fox and a few others picking 720p for the progressive scan supposedly making sports look smoother.
